They're back!
Last year, I was lucky enough to host a house concert featuring 2 great artists with lots of love & power- Steph Furness and Irina Rivkin. It's fabulous that Irina has come all the way from the Bay Area again to tour with Steph on the East Coast. They'll be sharing their powerful music with us on Thursday, May 5th in Atco, NJ. I'll do a few tunes as well, aside from playing hostess and just enjoying the sounds of the fun, funky, feminist, and beyond. All are welcome- Hope to see you there.
Peace,
Robin Renée

Performer bios:
Steph Furness is a singer/songwriter/guitarist with a serious need to facilitate some change. She sings candidly of her life experiences and welcomes others to relate their own. Influenced by DIY greats such as Kaia Wilson and Ani DiFranco, as well as local NJ artists such as Kate Evans, Steph melds traditional folk styles (i.e. Joan Baez) with blues, rock, and punk. Steph’s debut CD, “aviatrix”, was released in June 2002. Her second CD, “warm blanket – ep” was released in April 2004. Both albums are available at CDBaby.com. Steph was accepted in summer 2002 as a performing member of Indiegrrl, an independent female musician community spearheaded by indie sensation, Holly Figueroa. She also won third place in a national political songwriting competition for her song, “Build it Up,” in 2002. Her music is currently being played on several radio stations, including 88.5 WXPN,
“She is political, jazzy, and rhythmic...hot, harmony-rich vocals... rhythm & sound would pass as a Russian Sweet Honey in the Rock." Angela Page, Sing Out! Summer 2004

Outmusic Awards Recipient, & founder of Rose Street House of Music & vocal trio Making Waves, Irina has performed for 25 years, from her childhood singing jazz & Russian folk in a family band, to performing her own songs for the last decade. Her gutsy poetic vocal world originals journey into personal
& political, with occasional travels into Russian & Spanish language lyrics. Her full-length CD “upwelling” was released on Rose Street Records in 2004, and has received airplay on over 100 radio programs. "See Through Bush," a song from "upwelling", received repeated airplay all over the world after
being chosen for the Acoustic Rainbow v.20 radio sampler (distributed to 1300 radio stations). In addition, as an occasional harmony vocalist for SONiA, she sang at the 4/25/04 March for Women’s Lives in Washington DC, the biggest march in US History, as well as at the
June 2004 Clearwater Hudson River Revival on a stage shared with Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Toshi Reagan, and Dar Williams! Even when solo, Irina layers her poetic lyrics with rich harmonies and vocal percussive rhythms (performing all parts live with her loop station instrument).
