Could you please give us a figure of how much money we might need for the recording? Let's see how much we can gather. We might be able to pool in the required amount, or we might not; there might be people who want to help us but have financial constrains, there might be people who are not just interested; but WE ARE THERE !!. We all are bonded by the love of the music, and lets try, 'where there is a will, there is a way'. We should be recording your songs, come what may. We should!!
Dear All,
I last heard/seen them when I was in school, it's been a long time, but the voice of Jessi Ralte (Dark Krusaders), singing Nazareth's 'Star' still echoes in my ears, Paul Kamei's (Cannibals) voice that captured Bruce Dickinson's so many times, blazing guitar works of Ritchie Ramshanga, the
guitar God..... Do I need to give any more name or any more intro?
Let me be honest - Tamo Sando (Phoenix), Tamo Tiken (Runway Tracks), Tamo Nutan (Phoenix), Tamo Lien Gangte (Phoenix), Tamo Vivek Sharma (Phoenix), Tamo Eddie (Dark Krusaders).... are the fortunate ones. They have a job/business of their own for their income, or their families are well to do, they are in a much better position. Does anybody care about those who struggled or those who are struggling???
2 years ago in my office(Siemens, in Bangalore), a guy joined newly and he was invited to play for our office band. The moment he saw me, he asked me if I am from the North East, 'cos he also is from Guwahati, Kumardeep Das is his name, he played in a Bangalore band called 'Mutiny', they used to do Iron Maiden and Megadeth numbers, they often played at LOR, Koromangala. When I told him I am from Manipur, he shook my hand and said,
"Ritchie Da of Cannibals is my Guru". Then he narratted me the story of how Tamo Ritchie Ramshanga used to stay in a 'slum' in Guwahati Railway Station after Cannibals broke up, and how he(Kumardeep) used to rush so often to give him fees for this guitar classes to help him take care of his family. He said that Tamo Ritchie is now playing gospel in a church in Mizoram.
Last week when I inquired Tamo Vivek about Tamo Paul Kamei(who lives at Keishamthong Kabui khul), he said Tamo Paul is suffering, has some liver problem. During his early days, Tamo Paul spent his time for the so called music that we love so much, he did not pursue any other thing, he did not compromise with the circumstances, and now when he suffers, he has no income to take care of himself. This is just a story of Tamo Paul Kamei, there are 100s of genuine musicians like Tamo Paul out there in
Manipur, NE and the rest of the country.
If I go home this time, I will drive down to Churachandpur to Jessi's house and tell his parents how talented and gifted their son who died young was. I am not rich and it's always hard to mend the various chores of life, but sooner or later I will be honouring/helping these guys who are struggling to 'survive'. Hope you will too.
Peace.
Ringo
PS: I am not related, or not known from before to any of the guys mentioned above. I am just one, from among the rockin' crowd of thousands, who witnessed them performed live in early 90's. (Late 80's, early 90's? .. Wow.. those were the days, no naharols, no commandos, no killings, no bombs, no extortion... life was so damn cool !)

hi all,
It's been almost a week that I wrote about the Imphal Talkies and
their inablility to release their first album "Tiddim Road". I had
never expected that the group would become so silent after that mail
and that mail thread of supporting "Imphal Talkies" has met an instant
dead without any response from your side (except from Da Ringo).
I thought that everyone would be interested in helping a fresh and new
talents which having little choice and someone whom you already
appreciated so much. We damn our elders for not supporting the rock
culture during their times due which we are still paying. Now, we are
repeating again. We know how to say good things but, when it comes to
us we are no better. The no-response to this mail thread shows all.
Existence of group for flaunting rock music knowledge and writing
reviews appraising or condemning someone will not serve you anything at
the end. Time has come for everyone of us to go beyond the
congratulatory message if you really like to promote someone or new
talent.
I hope I'm not asking you too much. I don't give a damn to rock music
ideas or anything you have if you don't dare to help a fresh talent
which you appreciated so much in the beginning.
Let this group die a instant. Perhaps, this will make me feel better
rather than keep looking for some help.
You are not better than another rock-big-buff who only knows to
show-off.
Good for nothing.
Regards,

I am there for Imphal Talkies !!
Khuman, tell us what we have got to do.
Last saturday night and sunday evening, I had a a good time with some
good old rockers from Manipur who are based in Bangalore. We were
thrilled, we got connected by the music, by some songs, by some bands,
by an era, by the love of the music. That's something you and I cannot
do with those who do not love the music. We are there !!!
Regards,
Ringo

Some three months
back in
the RMM group, Da Ringo started a
mail thread for a song which no one has listened before. It was not any
English
rock-band, it was notany hindi
rock-band nor ourfamous Tapta but, that
new song had a new voice and more importantly a very simple and daring
lyrics
which had make everyone of us to sit and think and felt “tu-chungba”.
The voices and lyrics belong to a young physicist
called Ronid but, more popularly known as “Akhu” in the RMM closed
group.
Physics and rock music runs in his blood. But, at the same
time a great socialist at the heart. An avid follower of the theories
of the
legendary “NetajiIrabot”. If you look
at his writing, then you will realize the kind of out-of-box thinking
in this
great mind.
I don’t want to go more details of introducing this great
mind as almost every one of us had listened to his song, read his
article /
poem more than once in recent times.
“Imphal Talkies” is a band which is coming up at a very fast
pace. Imphal Talkieshas three
members Sachin Angom,Akhu Chingangbam and RiKi
chingangbam. Whatever
it is their songs, lyrics and many other things set a new trend in
Manipuri
Rock Music or in a better way contemporary music. With
the arrival of this band, a new sun has
been aroused in the rock music of Manipur which doesn’t imitate the
western rock
music.
The band feels that
its sound is a cry of hunger for justice that Manipur has been deprived
of over
the decades. When a child is crying for hungry then he can’t think of
imitating
the neighbor’s kid, he just cries. This is the way how the
Imphal
Talkies thinks and breathe. The band represents a talking Manipur which
has
been dumb and numb for years.
Imphal Talkies had a mention in the famous rock magazine
“Rolling Stone” of August Edition 2008.
So far so good then the hard luck starts hitting them.A
little amount of PhD Scholarship and some financial help from friends
have
helped the band in recording their debut album “TIDIM ROAD.”Now,
the scholarship money has been exhausted
but, more than half of the journey is still yet to be made.Except
for the recording, they have done
none.
They want to
release the music to the public. Not because
they want to make money but, because they want to be taken seriously whether
it is literature, poet or Manipuri
rock. They wanted their cries be heard in far flung places making the
people
realize that we can no longer be dumb and numb anymore. Like us they
want the
incorrigible people of Sanaleibak to
listen and think. Think beyond the boundaries. They wanted to do their
bit, but
being a novice band none of the sponsors are coming in. They tried and
tried
but, all the doors have been closed long before. Now, their unfinished
dreams
lie in the memories of few of us only.
Now, the time has
come for
everyone to help. Help them so
that they can do their bit of social service. Their songs are needed to
be
reached to the public before it is dusted.
We all the members of RMM should try to help “Imphal
Talkies”. Let’s skip a peg, a fag, a luxury lunch, a ride in auto
rickshaw and
contribute whatever is in our capacity to help them in raising the fund
for
their album’s release.
Time
has come for
everyone of us to go beyond the congratulatory messages which we poured
in when
we first heard his songs.
It’s now or never.
Life
doesn’t give you a second chance.
