We all know that the Farnham version is finally on CD, so I 've been digging
around to find info on the original version by it's composers Don & Phil
Everly, and discovered it was the B side of their 1967 hit Bowling Green
(yep, it is ironic that Farnham's version was originally the flip of Jamie,
but was more successful).
The Everly's version was also on their 1967 Album "Everly Bros Sing (which
is on CD), and I found the lyrics which illustrate that David Mackay
rearranged the lyrics, where what looks like the first verse was omitted and
the other verses rearranged to how Farnham did it.
The original lyrics are below:
I DON'T WANT TO LOVE YOU (1967)
(Don & Phil Everly)
Ah, the morning after the sound of laughter
Is hollow and thin
The sound of tears falls on my ears
Just how it all went wrong is not very clear
My pillow is cold
I feel the fear
I don't wanna love you
But I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Something in my heart tells me be still (Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)
I don't want to love you
But I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
I don't want to love you
But I will, I will, I will, I will (I will, I will, I will - I will, I will,
I will)
It's out of my hands now
Beyond my mind
I don't understand now
My eyes are blind
It's sad to discover what's under the cover
Of their eyes you know (Ooooooo)
A smile that's blinding is most lying(?)
The path to tomorrow will lead me nowhere
You dim the lights
I see the tears
I don't wanna love you
But I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Something in my heart tells me be still (Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)
I don't want to love you
But I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
I don't want to love you
But I will, I will, I will, I will (I will, I will, I will - I will, I will,
I will)
I don't want to love you
But I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Something in my heart tells me be still (Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba)
I don't want to love you..
