To our Blueslovers family

Dutch Tilders funeral was a perfect day for us to remember him always. With an
array of speakers we shed a tear and a laugh. "Dutch Tilders has left the
building" and was draped with the Holland and Australian Flag. Apricot roses
was the theme with three guitars to the side of his coffin.

The warmth in the Mitcham Baptist Church showed how much love we all had for Our
Bluesman who was a World Blues Legend and Internationally acclaimed songwriter.

The wake at the Manhattan Hotel was incredible with musicians from all over
Australia flying in to join Melbourne musicians in a long jam.

The service and wake have been filmed for later release. Dutch was said to be
laughing from above and wondering why so much fuss. We saw him honoured with
the full royalty he deserved.

Thankyou to all who have supported family and friends during this difficult time
when the loss of a great man will certainly leave many saddened. So blessed we
are to have his legacy of his music forever and may we remember our stories in
his company to share with others to keep the magic of blues alive. Personally I
feel cherished to have known so many beautiful people throughout my life with
Dutch Tilders blues family.

3a. Farewell to Dutch Tilders

What a fitting tribute to Dutch yesterday. Around 400-500 people attended a
great service. Reflections by his sons Sonny and Sam and grandaughter Olivia
were wonderful. Jazz legend Peter Gaudion gave a humorous and sincere account of
Dutch, labelling him as the greatest white blues voice around. Geoff Achison and
Lloyd Spiegel gave more recent accounts, Geoff singing some of Dutch's lyrics to
paint a vivid picture of the man. Lloyd speaking how everyone, no matter what
era they saw him, talk of seeing 'this old blues guy" for the very first time
and the effect on them. The idea of the old blues man being that he always gave
that feeling across, a deep understanding of the blues. MBAS president Gary
Jones called on the faithful to Keep the Faith. Manager Lynne Wright gave a
moving account of her times, in sickness and in health, with the Dutchman.
Dutch's coffin went out to the tune of St James Infirmary, wonderfully performed
by peter gaudion's jazz band. Throughout the event numerous photo's videos and
songs of Dutch's were played. Good morning cigarette showing the truth and
humour Dutch always had!
Then the wake, Dutch would have been proud and humbled. Blues musicians from
everywhere provided a musical tribute. If a bomb had of gone off there wouldn't
have been much of a blues scene left, mebourne's scene would have been finished!
It was still rocking at 5pm when I left, with still more talent available to get
up. Family, friends and fans alike remembering all that he has given us. The
Grandfather of Australian Blues, it was one big family yesterday, seeing people
you hadn't seen for a long time, all catching up, with the converstaion usually
starting with "remember that gig of Dutch's where.........." Thanks Dutch you
have left a great legacy of which no one will forget. Even though it is
difficult at the moment I know in time I will smile every time I hear your
music, and I will regale with my children with embellished stories of my time
with the legendary Dutch Tilders. Time will show just what a legend he really
was, we have all been very fortunate.
Cheers
Rooster

Quote of the day. When Dutch was asked recently if he had made peace with god,
Dutch replied "I never knew I offended him in the first place" priceless.

Hi Lynne
I have to agree with Rooster. I only ever saw Dutch once in about '77, and
probably for only half an hour (I'm not really into blues) but I never forgot
him. I worked in pubs as a barmaid in the 80's and saw lots of forgettable
bands, but always remembered Dutch. Which is why I had him on Wrokdown. He was
an entertainer to me - the most important thing!

by peter gaudion's jazz band.
   Cheers

Quote of the day. When Dutch was asked recently if he had made peace with god,
Dutch replied "I never knew I offended him in the first place" priceless.

Hi folx,

Hope everyone is well. Thought you might be interested in this obit from the
Herald for the late Kevin O'Donohue, the long-serving Gen. Mgr of 2SM. Although
his role in 2SM's success is not nearly as well known as it should be, Kevin
brilliantly managed the station and the SM group for 21 years during its glory
days in the 60s and 70s and his many innovations helped make it the most
successful and profitable radio station in Australia in its day and a world
leader in commercial broadcasting.

Dunno where it came from but I just found this printed sheet on my desk with a
list of Apras top 30 songs and No1 is Friday........it hit me that its a
ludicrous situation that last week I had to say no to another “loan “to Faye
(Stevie doesnt know about this) for $50 to help the singer of the top song buy
food........ (i’m now in over a grand with no chance of reimbursment.....I
stress its not Stevie that asks....would this country allow a top sportsman to
exist in this situation

Sad state of affairs Tony. Our business was run by a few people who decided who
made money and who didn't. Divided we fall. Which leads to only one
conclusion.
Then besides that, Support act?? Or have you been in touch with Wally Bishop?

If not he should get some legal advice on any unclaimed monies owing ?

Stevie would definatly be getting $$ from songwriting from his co-writes with
George , in fact i saw that one of those early Easybeats songs has just appeared
on a newly released soundtrack CD i spotted in JB recently.

I've just had an email from Mick Brill with the news that UK singer Doug Gibbons
died last year in Paris where he had been living for some time.

Mick was bass player with Doug over a number of years, including on his British
single "Security", a distinctive version of Otis Redding's song released under
the name Thane Russal and Three.

This news will sadden many of us who, like me, remember that record as part of
the soundtrack of the 60s in Australia, where it was much better known than in
its country of origin.

The astonishing outpouring of rock 'n' roll in the 1960s in Australia
and New Zealand gave birth to such iconic bands as the Easybeats, Ray
Columbus and the Invaders, the Masters Apprentices, Billy Thorpe and
the Aztecs, the Underdogs, the La De Das and the Missing Links. It
also launched the careers of a generation of musicians who would go on
to greater fame with their later groups (the Bee Gees, Little River
Band, Spectrum, Daddy Cool and more).

In Wild About You, authors Ian D. Marks and Iain McIntyre profile 35
of the most important bands who made the scene covering everyone from
chart-toppers to brilliant, but obscure regional and suburban acts.
The book is profusely illustrated with over 400 images including many
classic shots by rock photographers of the period as well as photos
and ads from Go-Set and Everybodys, rare posters and more from the
bands personal collections. It also includes extensive discographies
and the authors Top 100 Beat and Garage Songs.

" I thought I knew this area well but I'm totally gobsmacked by the
information and insight in this book, not to mention all the new
discoveries I need to seek out. Oh, and did I mention the photographs?
This is a towering achievementWild About You is the definitive book
on this greatest of musical eras."
Stuart Coupe

"There are insights and images here, gathered and presented with
obvious dedication, affection and understanding, that must astound the
protagonists, who surely thought that what they were doing would be
around for months and not decades. In Wild About You! Ian and Iain
tell tales, or allow tales to be told, of some of the most explosive
sounds captured in the 60s. In many cases these maniacal musicians
knew not what they did but, bloody hell, they did it with such
screaming passion that it will never be forgotten."

David Mason, the man who played the trumpet solo on "Penny Lane" has died.He was
a classical musician and music professor, who remarkably claimedhe didn't even
know who the Beatles were when asked to do the session. And he lived in England
(obviously under a bloody big rock)!

Also, the gorgeous Kathy Kirby, who had four (and only four) top 40 hits in
Melbourne in the space of 9 months. The first two both made #1.
