Re: midi vs stand alone dr-5

It really depends on what you want to do. You can use the DR-5 as a band in a
box (BIAB) (the DR-5 reaches its full potential in this role with Dr5 Edit -
software available from the moderator of this group), or you can use it as a
MIDI sound module with your keyboard. As a BIAB, you can have drums, bass, and
two other instruments playing your song however you program it to play them.

I used the DR-5 in its BIAB capacity for many years. In the past few years, for
my "solo" performances, I've been recording the DR-5 songs into my computer and
converting them to mp3 files. Then I provide the mp3 feed to the audio people
from my mp3 player. I control starts and stops, which song, etc. However, in
doing that I lose the ability to do on-the-fly adjustments to the songs on the
DR-5, but it is much more compact and convenient.

Hope this helps.

I normally use it for playing softsynths on the comp. Simpler than programming patterns standalone in my opinion. Steve ... -- Sent from my mobile device...
