Re: [Rolling The Ball]You Want Alchemy

I've often thought the real power of a song lyric or poem stems more from what
it suggests, than what it literally says, even if the writer had something
specific in mind.

Many of Kate's songs imply far more than is stated, but without becoming
incoherent or vague. It's a tough balancing act, but a tight-rope Kate succeeds
in walking again and again.

Or is it that we ARE like bees, in that everything is predetermined
and we
are just preprogrammed to do things? I see it as the protagonist saying "who
is this nut?" (nice use of double meaning - nut - as in seed/fruit - i.e.
reproductive nature) - but in reality we should be looking at ourselves
saying we are not that different... This is coming from a vegetarian point
of view, so maybe I am biased :D

So I definately agree that the song has undercurrents about fate and
predestination; but rather than contrasting between us and bees, I think KT
is actually saying 'we are more the same that you realise'.

ALSO I think even though the protagonist is saying 'okay we think this guy
is weird', in actuality KT ends up saying 'look, what is he is interested is
actually really quite amazing, and you shouldn't think badly of him - we all
have hobbies, and we all find beauty in different things'.

P.S. This is on the fast track on become one of my favourite songs too!
