Review of Hugh's Room, Toronto, March 14. I was not there, but
intensely interested, so I got a review from a friend who was there.
Below is her brief review, edited slightly (by me) to omit a few more
personal asides (since this was a personal email) and to complete a
couple of details.
Anyone else got reviews of the Ontario shows??

Hugh's Room is perfect for her. She really seemed to enjoy herself
and only swore on stage once. I think she was trying to be a lady.
She made a comment about dressing in a gown for the occasion, which
got a "yeah right!" from me. The house was full & everyone was
happy. I don't think she's used to a respectful audience who were
actually listening to her and not talking and drinking up. I think
quite a few of the people were there just to see her, because there
was a lot of recognition of the music and a few comments directed at
the stage. She played for almost an hour and was clapped back for an
encore.
She did a Willie P tune. She had that big, brilliant smile on her
face all night. The other gal, Roxanne Potvin, was the main
performer. She is talented and has a voice, but her music didn't
grab me. I'd love to see Romi back there for her own show.
There was a female guitar [and lap steel] player, Christine [Bougie],
who played both sets. She is amazing, and she got claps and hoots
almost every time she took it away. Very plain when she was
concentrating, but a wonderful smile that really lit up her face.
Romi said the bass [Darcy Yates] and guitar player [Christine Bougie]
learned her stuff the day before.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Romi played "She Didn't Try Her Best"
during the set.
Got Fred coming up in a couple of weeks.
