Well, you got me there. Been thinking about this for days. It's hopeless.
Surely you jest, Mr. Mason! I resist the temptation for sarcasm; that's perhaps
the only cop-out way for me to approach this question.
I honestly cannot come up with solid answers. In an ultra-casual viewpoint, I
could choose a different fave/unfave rsm song every day, but they wouldn't
accurately reflect my overall opinion.
It all comes back to my utter distaste for the all-popular pastime of "ranking"
and "listing best of's"... I hate doing that! People are so hung up on that game
these days. Which is better than which? To whom? For how long? And why? Number
one, number two, a close third, etc etc. "The Top 20 Reasons to Not Watch
Letterman." The envelope, please...
Who cares... and more importantly, how fickle tastes can easily fluctuate day to
day!
Anytime somebody specifically targets ANY of my tunes, whether positively or
negatively, I appreciate (i.e. crave) the mere attention. Period. How can I
otherwise be objective? One newbie listener prefers the short 'n sweet melodic
ballad? Excellent, I'll always agree. Another decades-long veteran digs the long
avant noise thingy instead? Here, here! Go for the risky adventure, man! But
generically compare, rate, or list numbered in order of seniority?? NOT ME,
Never!
You guys do that for me.
It's all good. All or nothing.
So my sincere apologies, SM: your simple question gets a bunch of my wildly
scattered gibberish nonsense. Maybe I'll give it another go at a later date.
In closing, I'm just eternally unnerved that by now I'm not globally popular
beyond comprehension. I was born to be a household name, not a fuckin' GBV
footnote!
I take my nap now.
