I've always thought "Copy Me" was a terribly underrated song: I think
it's one of the first-rank RSM tunes, but it's never been one of his
better-known tunes even among a lot of fans.

Hi
This has now been issued with the man's very own "Pedestrian Hop/Copy
Me" on what ued to be side 4.
My first exposure to RSM and still sounding mighty fine 25 years on.
Cheers

It definitely sounds remastered. These are the best
these songs have ever sounded to me, esp. You And Me,
which is one of his best tunes. The liner notes are
great, plenty of cool pics...I'm really hoping RSM
could get a half page article in something like MOJO.
At least.
His lack of recognition really does smack of criminal
neglect.

ummm... first off... I agree!
it's a great collection and the quality sounds very
good...
remixed/remastered? maybe yeah definitely different
sounding versions
than the others I've heard... What's the Point is one
of the few LPs I
don't have... been trying to get one...

Just wanted to say that I picked up a brand spankin new copy of Meet
The R. Stevie Moore last weekend during a cd buying trip out of
state. And it is awesome (and, I only paid $14 for it new despite it
being an import...).
It has almost all my fave RSM tunes on it, everything from You And Me
and Play Myself Some Music to Schoolgirl and I Want You In My Life.
It is probably my favorite RSM collection, other than What's The
Point, which holds a very dear place in my heart as being one of the
first RSM vinyl releases I ever bought.
Anyway, I really hope this finally FINALLY brings our man some much
needed and much deserved recognition (and maybe some buck$$ too).
Once again, my hat is off to you, Mr. RSM!!

Greetings, Larry!
Thanks for sharing this info, and filling in some Moore history for the
timeline. Would love
to hear that intro you did. If you do dig it out, be sure to get it on cd and
send it to RSM.
Do you have any idea what the date was for that John Jay performance? From your
description, I'm guessing that it was in 1980 or so. I do have a question about
the
accuracy of your claim, that this is the first R. Stevie performance up North,
but I'm not
posting this to lessen the importance of your story, of course. I would just
like to get this
straight in my head.
Wasn't this actually after Stevie's first NJ appearance at Maxwell's? I believe
that the
Maxwell's show in question had taken place while he was still working at Sam
Goody's,
back in '79. RSM and several friends (including IC & JP) performed to a tape
track.
I could be wrong, you know, and I would be happy to be corrected if so.
Are you still in the NY/NJ area? Will we be seeing you at any of the upcoming
RSM gigs?
Would love to touch base with you again. It has been ages.
Regards,
-max-

The first performance of the Velvet Underground was in New Jersey at Summit High
School.
In a similar event of greatness, R. Stevie's first performance was at John Jay
High School, in Cross River, NY. Next town to the Clintons' nominal residence
in Chappaqua.
Steve did it the only way that it could have been done - he sang and played
guitar to his
own tracks. I believe that he performed "Pat", and I know he did "Chantilly
Lace".
John Jay prepared him for his next big show, at the New Wave Disco Hurrah.
Background: I had seen a performance by the dance group "First Choice" at a
club in NJ.
They had the hit "Doctor Love" (if you know your Salsoul dance music) The
ladies were
performing for their fan base. They had the integrity to not even consider
lip-syncing, but
didn't have the money for a band. NO matter. They brought a open-reel tape and
performed live. I saw that the concept (and concert) worked.
Well, it was the right idea at the right time. I pitched "Ghost Town" and
"Shoulder Pads",
who in turn, presented the idea to Steve, who felt right about it. Shelley
called the school
and asked if they'd like a concert performance as an addition to their
already-booked DJ
dance, and they were quite excited.
It was Stevie, Jim Price and me. (There were only 3 seats in the van) It was a
big hit! Steve
sounded great through my sound system, and enjoyed himself. There's even a
recording of
my introduction, which I am SURE is in a cassette box somewhere. In the days
afterwards
playing the tape of my little speech would be guaranteed to produce a bunch of
laughs
from Steve's entourage and the advocates on the WFMU crew. (Sorry, but I didn't
train hard
enough to be a narrator/announcer)

I have to agree; I never understood why Recommended never did a full
RSM album. "What's The Point!!??" was the first RSM album I got and I
was surprised that it wasn't on Recommended even though I purchased
it from them.
As for Cunieform I think the problem is that you have never been a
member of Soft Machine. If you had we would have had a plethora of
releases on that label.
Thank gawd for Cherry Red.

I guess it will be awhile longer here then. Being all the way in
Tennessee. Still gonna check the box everyday with anticipation. That
comp. sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to check out the re-issue.
In Bonnie Scotland. Cherry Red is a UK label so maube that's why I have
it a bit quicker.
I also notice from ReR Megacorp's web site that the 1982 Recommended
Records sampler is being reissued finally on cd. This was where I first
encountered the majesty that is R. Stevie Moore where the
wonderful "Pedestrian Hop/Copy Me" originally nestled on side 4 of the
vinyl.
A vinyl which I wore out and recently managed to track down another
copy.

Thanks, RogFer (if I may be so familiar). I had a case w/BPU a while
back and talked to JP on the phone. I was sure it had to be that JP
but couldn't bring myself to ask...maybe because I once asked Bill
Kelly of the House of Cards if he was that Bill Kelly. Well, he likes
REAL rock n roll too I guess.
Curiosity sated, I can quit the ambien :)

hey Rogfer, so you've heard from My Price recently (again)?? ask him why he
