Hey now, I would like to give a few of my impressions of
the BSB show. It was inspirational, as always, to see the
kids on stage and all of the other reminders of what this
benefit is all about.
Make no mistake about it, Tom Waits and the Kronos
Quartet, My Morning Jacket, and Neil + band made this
concert very memorable.
Neil was more than great. He ripped through the acoustic
(with band) version of No Hidden Path with fury and an
intensity I can't fully describe. The entire set was
performed very well. I like the version of The Way on CDII
but I must admit that sans choir it was also excellent.
The setlist was varied and interesting and if you include
the Beautiful Bluebird in the short opening set, included
more songs from the new album than he does in the tour
shows. The acoustic arrangements provided a great contrast
to the electric tour. It was wonderful to be able to see a
show from this tour plus this incredible BSB performance.
Neil's set was so intense, I couldn't watch the rest of
the show, so I missed Jerry Lee and Metallica. I instead
went to the healing pole where I was able to share with
Rusties how moved we all were by Neil's performance. This
was one amazing night of music.
