It was indeed wierd.
I think the big shuffling of the electric setlist contributed.
In the first set Neil started something else on piano before Love in Mind. To
my ears it sounded like he was begining Harvest on piano (having just played it
on six-string!).Sits back and waves his hands."No, not that."More hand
waving."Something different."A Nice love in Mind. Ends. Appluase. Stays
seated and starts playing again. A second song on upright piano? No, just
plays some small chord group and rounds it off like a "second ending" to LIM
.... peculiar.
Old King in response to a request was pretty fun .... "a little shakey ...", he
said to himself afterwards. Heh, heh.
Electyric set straight out of the starting blocks with DOM changed the whole
tone.Nowhere near as intense as Monday night IMO but far more relaxed on stage
between Neil and Ben. Nice to have such unexpected variation in the electric
set, but if that had been my only show of the tour I would have been
disappointed to not get Don't Cry No Tears, Winterlong, Bad Fog. Neil on Old
Black for almost all of the second set. No Gretsch! Bo hoo.
Neil seemed a bit annoyed by something in his setup before starting Spirit Road.
Larry fiddling around with amps. "Might as well go for it," mutters Neil and
launches into it ... ooph.
Short and very curt exchange between Neil and Ralph before The Believer. Can't
be certain but sounded along these lines:RM: (something like) "... not that bad
song."NY: What's that?RM: Nothin'
TFG electric with Anthony Crawford on mandolin was really nice.
HHMM was a bit of a shock with that band; it was on the edge a bit as to whether
they really pulled that one off ... the fun was in the trying though.
Accurate report from Roel about the analogue/digital rant and compact disc ("..
how convenient for you all"). The remark that followed which Roel mentioned
came at the end of the rant.
Neil got up from where he had been seated for the rant, wandered to the red
telephone, took a "call", nodded, shrugged and muttered something down the
mouthpiece before putting the receiver down then turning to the crowd with a
gesture back towards the 'phone .... "Blu-Ray". Funny guy.
DBTR was a nice surprise.Huge amount of wierdness in NHP. Completely different
tone and mood to the Monday rendition.
Over and over Neil wandered across to a huge stage spotlight at stage right,
raised his face up and bathed in the yellow light. Got really close up almost
touching the huge lamp, staring straight into the light. Then a smouldering
glance back at the light over his shoulder as he walked back to centre stage.
My other half said he looked like he was going to lash out at the big lamo at
one point ....
He did this several times throughout the song - at one point holding old black
up, staring down the neck into the lamp and letting the light play on the
guitar.
Then bathing in the light up close again, staring at it over his shoulder as he
walked away.
Again and again. Neil completely away on his on.
Then a very, very gentle and mellow end with far less of an extended reverb
than Monday night, just delicate repetition of the "Ocean sky .." line and
gently stoking the chords ...
Hilarious moment - The Sultan completely broke his gong hammer on only the
second strike of the gong.
Was left holding only a short stump of the stick 4 or 5 inches long in his hand
for the rest of the song; struggling to keep a straight face. Threw the short
stump and head of the hammer towards Neiler at the end of the song ...
Keep on rockin' Neiler. Keep on rockin'.
