G'day Rusties,
Truely, truely, truely the best show I have seen, ever. I plan to be a
little more comprehensive once I return back to Melbourne on Saturday, but
for now a few personal highlights:
Firstly, it was great to catch up with all the other Aussie Rusties before
and after. Thanks Steve for organising, and a big thank you to Rod, Johanna
& Ell for driving me back to my hotel afterwards.
Lisa Miller: Short but sweet set. Highly recommend checking her and her
band out. They only play for about 25 mins. Grab the new album too.
Again, well worth the effort.
Greendale: Sublime. It really is 'Everything you're looking for'. Bandit
could very soon be my absolute all-time favorite Neil song. He nailed it.
2nd Set: MMHH into Watchtower was great which then pretty much morphed into
LAH. Literally no gap between all three songs, it was 1/2 an hour (give or
take a few minutes) of the most intense music I have ever witnessed. I was
buggered by the end of it and all I did was watch! Although I did have to
pick my jaw off the floor quite a few times! You could feel Hurricane in
your chest, it was that powerful.
I hope someone taped this show because last nights Powderfinger was the best
I've heard live or on a boot. (yeah, I know I havent heard that many!).
Poncho and Neil just kept jamming in between verses. Everytime you thought
Neil would go back to the mic to sing again Poncho would get a big grin on
his face and look at Neil and they would launch into another solo. Amazing.
RITFW sounded like it could disintergrate at any time but was kept together
by Ralph and his amazing breaking drumsticks. There were bits flying off
all over the place.
Billy is THE coolest cat in the history of the world. Sometimes I not sure
he even uses the bottom three strings on his bass, but f$* me, why would you
when you can make notes sound that heavy. Billy's my new favorite!
Just a quick mention for Poncho. His keys in Grandpa's Interview are great.
That song needs to be rerecorded to include this. Oh, yeah - I know you
all know this but bugger me, he's a big man!! And happy too, the smile
never left his face during the second set.
OK, this was meant to be a short post so I'll wrap it up for now. One down,
Sydney and Melbourne to go. Could it get any better?
Seeya - A very excited Dave form Australia.
