To show the depth of my personal Neilness, I enjoy browsing Sugar Mountain and
pondering setlists. For example, what's the story behind his 2 songs (1 each)
with Spirit and Firefall (strange fabricated LA session group) in '76 after the
Stills tour broke up? I assume no recording exists, but I believe that's some of
the first Dylan he'd played live. I was checking the Eastern/Australia Greendale
sets and, by cracky, he'd dropped in Watchtower. I've seen him do it live myself
several times, saw a few Booker T 93 shows and MIH shows, it's a fantastic jam,
great lyrics, he has a musical bond w/Dylan (that's your dream team tour), but,
honestly, why Watchtower? Sure, it's a classic and timeless, so much so that
many have covered it, but why not Big Time? Cortez? Here's a man with a
breathtaking body of musical work and a fan base aching to hear from it and he
loves this particular cover song. As others have written, I guess the
stubbornness and contrariness are what makes him appealing.
