Contest Interview Transcript - Pt. II

8. What influence does your compassion for
animals have on your artistry?<br>RXH: I think my love of
animals has made me a more sensitive and compassionate
(and sometimes flea-ridden) person which hopefully
seeps into my music (minus the fleas).<br>ITCHY
SONGWRITER RECORDS SCRATCHY RECORD<br><br>9. Through the
acquisition of some home studio equipment, you've moved from
the engineer's "Living Room" to your own, at least
for some basic<br>tracks. How has the experience of
recording at home been for you?<br>RXH: I've discovered I
sing much better (and looser) in my underwear, which I
couldn't do in a normal studio. Also, my wife likes to
engineer<br>topless, which I find quite agreeable (and
stimulating).<br>BRIEFS-CLAD MUSICIAN RECORDS SHORT SONGS; WIFE KEEPS ABREAST
OF SITUATION<br><br><br>10. You've been a part of
many of the various "Tribute to..."-type shows in the
NY area - the British Invasion, the Monkees, and
others. Do you enjoy these kinds of performances? Are you
a<br>part of them because of your love of the artists'
music, or because of the opportunity for exposure to a
broader audience, or both?<br>RXH: Truthfully, it's
because I was asked to do them. That's all it takes. I've
done four 60's music shows at the Bottom Line called
"The Beat<br>Goes On" series. Two were British
Invasion, one was the American Response, and the last was a
recreation of the "Hullabaloo" show. I've also done Joe
Meek, Zombies and Monkees tributes at a<br>club called
Fez.<br>"SEE ME AT THE FEZ," SEZ HEYMAN<br><br>11. Are you
drumming at all as part of your live gigs?<br>RXH: I
haven't been, but I'd like to play maybe one song from
the drums. We're a three-piece so that would mean our
drummer Kurt would have to<br>learn the guitar
part.<br>HEYMAN TO FANS - "BEAT IT", WHILE DRUMMER
STRUMS<br><br><br>12. You've lived in NYC for many years - what kinds
of changes have you seen in the city, in overall
quality of life as well as the music<br>scene?<br>RXH: I
notice that everyone seems to be getting older every
day. There's a small core of friends and acquaintances
who have some terrific bands<br>as well as albums --
the Rooks, George Usher, the Grip Weeds, Dave Rave,
Green Rooftops, Mannix.<br>ROCKER PROVIDES LITERAL
RESPONSE TO FIGURATIVE QUERY<br><br>13. You include
various covers as part of your live set - have you ever
been tempted to record a cover of any song?<br>RXH: We
do "Song of a Baker" by the Small Faces, which would
be fun to record live.<br>NO KNOCK ON "WOOD" -
HEYMAN TO COVER SM. FACES<br><br><br>14. What have you
found most rewarding about being a professional
musician? What has been most frustrating or disappointing
about that career choice?<br>RXH: The most rewarding,
literally, was my first publishing deal with Chrysalis
Music. Losing that publishing deal was the most
disappointing.<br>GAIN, LOSS OF PUBLISHING DEAL LEAVES HEYMAN FEELING
"PUPA"'D<br><br>15. What will it take for those of us who live
outside of the NYC-Philly axis to see you perform in
person?<br>RXH: A nice trip to New York!<br>GRACIOUS MUSICIAN
OPENS HOME TO WAYWARD FANS!
