JANUARY 21 @ THE BOTTOM LINE<br>THE BEAT GOES ON
PRESENTS VOLUME 6: NUGGETS<br>HOSTED BY LENNY KAYE (AS
LINK CROMWELL)<br>"IT'S A NUGGET IF YOU DUG
IT"<br><br>In 1972 Sire Records released a two-record set of
garage classics compiled by Lenny Kaye. That record was
the blueprint for the future and a key to the past.
The songs were chosen by Lenny as a tribute to all
the sixties garage bands across America. Most of the
groups on the original record were lucky if they had a
hit single and/or an album released. Many of their
records were promptly placed in cut-out bins and lost to
the annals of time.<br><br>Or so we
thought...<br><br>Collectors started to discover these lost gems.
Rediscovering artists like The Magicians, Chocolate Watchband,
The Seeds, Shadows of Night, Electric Prunes and The
Nazz (who launched the career of Todd Rundgren). Many
of the groups were<br>one-hit wonders enjoying their
"15 minutes of fame." Perhaps they were on Tom Hanks'
mind when he wrote and directed "That Thing You
Do."<br><br>In 1998 Rhino Records released a four CD box set
that included the original album and enhanced the set
with other lost gems of the era. THE BEAT<br>GOES ON
will present many of these songs performed by current
downtown musical talents,<br>including RICHARD X. HEYMAN,
EVAN DANDO, SCOTT KEMPNER, ANNIE GOLDEN, WILLIE NILE,
THE<br>PRISTEENS, RICHARD LLOYD, CHRIS COLLINGWOOD, RICKY BYRD,
MANIC PANIC, DIVAS TISH & SNOOKY, CARLTON SMITH, GREEN
ROOFTOPS and many others. LENNY KAYE<br>will host the show
and talk about the making of the album and the scene
he helped to create. The artists will be backed by
an all star band including Andy York, Tony Shanahan,
Rich Pagano, Kris Woolsey and musical director Andy
Burton.<br><br>It's the great, classic 60's album, so get out of the
garage and come down to the Bottom Line at 15 West 4th
Street on January 21, 2000 for two shows at 7:30 and
10:30. Psychedelic Light Show provided by Gary Fury &
