Here's some info Nancy sent me re: their home
studio set-up. JB<br><br>"We have 2 Alesis XT-20 ADATs
(digital 8-track recorders); each one cost bout $1800
(though they're probably cheaper than that by now); very
easy to use, very straightforward. You use digital
videotape to record on.<br><br>"Our mic is a Rode Classic
Tube mic; cost us about $1400. Excellent microphone,
very warm, particularly good for voices and acoustic
<br>guitars.<br><br>"Mic-pre/compressor is a Summit XPL-100 (I think that's the
model #,
not quite sure!). This piece cost $2100. We recorded
EVERYTHING through it, with great results. It compresses and
smooths out the tracks in a very transparent way, so you
don't hear the compression or the drive from <br>the
mic-pre.<br><br>"Our board is a Soundcraft Spirit, a cheap little
board ($600) through which we monitored ourt racks. We
never recorded through the board, <br>everything went
from the mic, through the compressor, straight onto
ADAT. But we listened back to the tracks through the
board, and it has pretty nice EQ and built-in Lexicon
reverb. We still haven't quite got the hang of all the
buttons and knobs, but we more or less know what we're
doing with it.<br><br>"Monitors are self-powered JBL's.
Each has a built-in amp, so we didn't need a separate
amp to power the speakers.<br><br>"We also have a
Shure SM-57 microphone, about $90, which we used to mic
the guitar amps."
