In many parts of our country, there exists the Anglo-Catholic Church.
These are members of the Episcopal Church of the USA(part of the
worldwide Anglican Communion), but they contain certain elements of
Catholic worship, like the Eucharist, Solemn Evensong, and much more.
One of the great Anglo-Catholic churches in America is Boston's Church
of the Advent, which offers traditional Anglican worship in 3 Masses
each Sunday, including a Solemn High Mass at 11 a.m.
The choir, directed by Edith Ho, has recorded an album of Christmas
songs called "O Magnum Mysterium," featuring the Palestrina Mass of the
same name, as well as a collection of English Christmas carols. I've
never been to the church myself, but I've heard their collection and
it's sensational!
You know, when England broke away from Catholicism and established the
Anglican Church(the ruling monarch is head of the church and its sister
churches worldwide), many people were happy with it. However, the
Pilgrims objected because it retained certain Catholic sacraments.
Hence, the long sea journey across the Atlantic to Plymouth in 1620 and
the long winter that followed.
The rest is history...
