>Dear Friends of Maeve:
>
>Good news is worth the wait - and great news is very much worth the WEIGHT. Maeve's tumors are unchanged! The HEAVY burden of this MRI process every 12 weeks is almost crippling, yet Maeve and her parents carry on. It is what it is. When the phone rings and it is everyone's favorite world-class pediatric neurosurgeon (Dr. Dreamy/Heilman) calling with news that answers all FOMs' prayers, then the elephant that's been parked on their chests dissipates, and they can breathe again.? It's always scary, but, given our recent close call with beginning radiation, it is starting to feel like our own little game of Russian Roulette. I was just discussing with Maeve how it wouldn't have been the end of the world if her MRI had shown tumor growth, because we would deal with it - together. There might be growth next time, and we'll deal with it. (Yes, it is surreal to have that discussion with a nine year-old.) This fabulous news brings with it twelve glorious, heaven-sent weeks unt! il the elephant climbs back on. I just tucked my Lily into bed, and she said it all:? "It is SO time to say our thank you prayers!" Amen to that, Lil.

>While getting checked in before the MRI, Maeve caught sight of the humongous binder that holds her medical records. Amazed at the size of it, she marveled, "I didn't know there was this much information in my whole LIFE!" (See the pic.) To me, that is a testament to the normalcy that Sue and Micky have maintained for Maeve. She doesn't see herself as someone nearly five years into a staggering situation - she's just a kid who got a new bike for her birthday. (See pic)

>The MRI itself had its usual joys of an empty belly and waiting for hours. When Maeve came out from under the anesthesia she was quite confused and majorly ticked off. Her demure "I...am....FREE-ZING!!!!!" sent everyone scurrying. (She is pictured under a mountain of blankets.) Once released and heading to the car, a somewhat surly Maeve the Brave and her embattled parents entered the elevator, in which they promptly got...stuck. How's that for a kick in the teeth? How's that for a metaphor? My tough day suddenly seemed like a day at the spa. As usual, they kept the wheels on the bus, and all's well that ends mighty flippin' well.
