St. Augustine, Florida. On March 13, 2000 City Commissioners passed two new ordinances (2000-03 & 2000-09) banning Street Performers and Artists from the Oldest Street in "The Nation's Oldest City", St. George Street. Against a flood of public protest from locals and tourists alike, City Fathers, under pressure from a Chamber of Commerce interest group, put the bans in place. Enforcement began ten days later. Artists were arrested. Musicians were arrested. The Beat Goes On!
