You might want to try the school itself -- (877) 492-5367. Part that, no
clue.

Did anyone catch Sara's Valentine's Day live show on Yahoo? She was
with Kristin DeWitt and Paul Pearcy. It was way too short -- only 30
minutes -- but it was a wonderful way to take a break at work and
enjoy a live Sara show!

I just brought my "Misfits" CD with me in the car over the weekend, and all
three kids (10, 7, and 4) have already learned (to varying degrees) the
lyrics to "Radiation Man". It's taken the place of Styx' "Mr Roboto" as
the most requested song in the car.

When I offhandedly mentioned that Sara Hickman would be in town soon, the
first thing they asked was if it was a sing-a-long! I haven't given them
any other details -- I don't know if we'll make it or not -- but from what
the newsletter said, a sing-a-long to Mary Poppins at the Lakewood should
be a ton of fun!

Any ideas on what I should expect?

Hi Robert,

I've not attended a "sing-a-long" with Sara but I agree with you it
should be lots of fun. Mary Poppins has so many great songs.

I did attend the recent Valentine's Day concert at Caravan and as usual
it was a great show.

I figured this would be my chance... but I already have "Misfits" and
"Necessary Angels". I put in a bid anyway, because I need "Shortstop"...
anyone interested in buying the other two cheap let me know and I'll try a
little harder to win.

Yeah, I do. Even though I mostly lurked and never posted much.

Last time I looked there were still a fair number of people subscribed here
though.

I suppose we just need somebody to start up a good conversation to get

Yeah, it has been quiet and, no, I have yet to pick up "Toddler" although I
have a daughter who will be three in June. If I could get Sara to sign one
to her, I'd order one for Hannah for her birthday. Waterloo had them in
stock and they take mail orders as well as the folks on Sara's web page.
Just haven't done it yet.

OFTTL is in high rotation in our house. Listened to it this past Saturday
night while babysitting 4 kids under the age of 7. Helped keep things a bit
calmer than might have otherwise been.

OFTTL was quite honestly a bit of a disappointment. I was really hoping to get
more original (rather--redone) music between Sara and Kristin. I really did like
the new ones (3 was it?) and I honestly thought the rendition with Lance on TAKE
ME WITH YOU was a more happy sounding version than the one Sara usally sings.

I still haven't gotten TODDLER--but do plan too.

Yes, lets start some discussions----I'll go first. Has anyone been to a recent
Terri Hendrix show? Has anyone noticed how she's progessed?

(And a personal PS to Jessie: I STILL haven't gotten used to the traffic and
have started my 3rd job in 13 months! Can you believe its been that long since
I got here!)

It looks like the Mary Poppins sing-a-long isn't really a "Sara Show"... I
thought it would be a one-time special event, but it looks like it's part
of a cool experiment by Disney to create a kid-friendly interactive cinema
experience... I may try to take the kids sometime, but I've promised them a
concert. They've saved up three weeks' allowance for tickets!

So it looks like we're going to make it to Saturday's show at Fort Worth's
Jefferson Freedom Cafe. I called, and the pre-recorded message said there
were about 70 seats left. It also said you could reserve seats (until
7:30pm) by leaving a message, so I did. If anyone from the list wants to
say hi, I'll be the one with a wife, two girls (10 and 7), and a boy
(4). Four out of five will know all the words to "Radiation Man"...

Here's the note I sent to my site's update announcement list, for those

To: originalchicks@yahoogroups.com
From: Robert Brooks <robertb@...>

Subject: [DC-Orig] News Flash: First official "Chicklet" born

** An "Newest Chicks" News Flash from The All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page! **

Although there have been two previous Dixie Chicks kids -- Asia Abraham,
Laura Lynch's daughter, and Martie Erwin's stepson when she was married to
Ted Seidel -- there wasn't a fully home-grown Dixie Chicklet... until now.

According to posters on the Dixie Chicks Fan Discussion List (see
http://www.dixiechicksfans.com/), Natalie Maines gave birth to a six pound
(ounces unknown), 20-inch baby boy named Jackson Slade on March 15,
2001. Mom and Dad (actor/director Adrian Pasdar of "Mysterious Ways") are
said to be doing fine.

The "official" announcement seems to have been during the A&E cable
channel's Loretta Lynn "Live By Request" special. Fellow Dixie Chick Emily
Robison -- always known as the wild one -- called in a request in honor of
the new arrival. No word yet on what song she requested, though "One's On
The Way" would be an obvious choice.

Loretta's controversial track "The Pill" might have also been apropos...
especially if you go back nine months and compare that date with Natalie
and Adrian's wedding date. Although the pregnancy was announced after the
wedding (with a due date in mid-April), many fans on the discussion list
suspected that was simply a matter of being tactful.

Hey, at least she *did* get married -- once again, the Chicks defy the
current entertainment industry trend. Compare with stars like Tanya Tucker
or Madonna... however you do the math, the remaining Dixie Chick marriages
seem downright old-fashioned.

So congratulations to Natalie and Adrian on the blessed event. God bless
your new family!

At least musicians are accustomed to late-night feedings... :)

When I heard a stream-of-consciousness song on KHYI (95.3 Dallas, khyi.com)
called "Nobody Wants To Go To The Moon Anymore" sung by Damon Bramblett, I
knew I needed to look it up. It's on Bramblett's self-titled September
2000 release... and sure enough, he's got author credit for Sara's version
from "Misfits". Just thought y'all might be interested.

I just saw something while looking up Misfits at CDnow. Robin Macy is
credited as a background singer. How did I miss that? I am *so* behind on
my Dixie Chicks Complete (hah!) Discography, it's pitiful.

See y'all at the show tomorrow!

And I have the opposite reaction - I like it a lot, wish she'd
release more of her "back - catalog" in live/in-the-studio settings,
but was kind of disappointed with the new material (except Last Man
In The Water). The other new ones were not really my cup of tea.

But how funny was it to hear the guy from the Smithereens
mispronounce ex-Eagles lead singer "Grammy Award winner Don Henry"!
If you listen closely it sounds like he kind of forgot it's HenLEY.

Really, I thought this was a great idea, and hope that maybe there
will be more like this (non-record-company, kind of personalized with
the little numbers hand-written on the case) from Sara in the future.

I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents worth about the excellent show
that Sara played on Saturday night. She is SASSY !!! I have noticed
this aura of confidence about her and I think that she is definately
arriving at the place she wants to be.

I remember awhile back when she was contemplating giving up the
"adult" scene and going strictly with the kids--- Sara can do both !
She can have her cake and eat it too!

I did pick up my copy of "Toddler" and I think that this is pretty
darn close to GRAMMY material. Wouldn't that just be too cool??

And I'd like to send Robert Brooks a great big Pumpkinhead hug--it
was so nice meeting you and your kids-- what blessings!!

So, all you out there who have already have your TODDLER copies--what
do you think are the cutest songs??

Sara Hickman eNewsLetter April 1, 2001
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So, it's April Fool's Day, a perfect time for A note from Sara. But here's
where the tomfoolery comes in - Sara isn't writing this newsletter! Oh no!
Yepper, this is a newsletter from Sara's Mailing List WiseGuy. Seems that
Sara phoned me and is a bit sicky-pooh right now, so she is taking some
down-time to build her strength for her mini tour.

Oh, you lucky people, Sara is coming to a town near you! Don't forget to make
plans to see Miz Hickman this time around, because she is so excited about
some things happening to her. First off, she is in an article by Bruce Kluger
(page 87) in the recent (April 16, 2001 edition) US Weekly (Julia
Roberts/"Oscar Fashion" cover, not a Tom Cruise cover as previously believed
- see what happens when a favorite wins an Academy Award!!) and secondly,

Hi all,

I just got home from the Sara show here in St. Louis, and wanted
to get it all down before I forgot. (There is one part I will NEVER
forget, however).

The opening singer was Barbara Kessler, who did a fine job
singing and playing her acoustic. She got the crowd singing, and she
said that she had just reached the ultimate in coolness - one of her
songs has been played on "Car Talk" on NPR.

Sara played without any backup, just her and her guitar. As best
I can recollect, the songs she played were:

Shadowboxing
Happy In Your Love
She told a great story about missing her hubby while out on the
road, dedicated it to him.

500x (The Train Song)
Once again, it's always great to hear this song, as well as the
story about doing yoga in a warehouse apartment across from the train
yard...

Look at it this way
Not sure why, but she dedicated this to "all the pissheads" who
can just try to ruin your outlook on things...

Simply
As always, beautiful. I think this is the first time I've seen
her play this one live.

Woman Waiting To Happen
     Her 'Helen Reddy' song...

Moment Of Grace

Too Fast

I Wear The Crown
If these last 2 songs don't get you laughing, nothing will! She
got the guys and girls to sing separate "I wear the crown" choruses...

Happy Birthday To Me
Ahem, that is, me. Yes, my friends requested Sara to bring me
up on stage and sing Happy Birthday (I turn 40 in 2 days). So, she
did. In the manner that Marilyn Monroe sang it to President Kennedy -
you know, "Happy (sigh) Birthday (deep sigh) Dear (sigh) Ji-im". I
won't forget that one anytime soon!

Standing Ground
Someone in the audience requested this - and Sara said, you know,
nobody ever asks for that one! She seemed very pleased to get this
request.

Everything's Red

It's Alright

So since I got brought up and sung to, my perspective is kind of
skewed - I'll not forget this one. It would have been nice to have
Kristin DeWitt there too, but don't get me wrong - I'm not
complaining at all. As always Sara's voice was in fine form, and she
was playing excellent guitar - especially considering that she was
playing with a cut on her finger...as she said, let me just say right
now, "ooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww".

She said this was the last night of her mini-tour. If anyone is
anywhere near St. Louis, the Generations Nightclub she plays at is
quite nice - seats maybe 80 to 100 people, sound is good, it's a neat
place. It's attached to a Holiday Inn, so that's convenient. (NO,
it's not a "Johnny and the Lounge Lizards play the Holiday Inn" bar!)

Anyway, I hope you all get a chance to go out and see her next
time she gets on the road. She is almost sold out of One Flower To
The Left - I think she said there are only 500, and the last ones she
had in St. L. were #425 and 426. So act now! ;)

I'm happy that your experience was as exhilarating as all of our experiences
are! Sara just seems to do that to us!

As for myself, I'm waiting to see her at the Wildflower festival here.

Barbara

Barbara, Don't forget the Main Street Art Fest in downtown FTW. Its usually a
good show and I understand that Brave Combo will be on the same stage right
after Sara.
