Hey guys,
Thought I could try to give this group another kick in the butt which
is what it needs. I was listening to this one song by King Oliver from
way back and was just absolutely amazed at how he was able to come up
with some of the oddest sounds I've ever heard from a cornet and/or
trumpet. I've been trying to figure out what exactly he was using for
a mute because I have heard a hat mute, a plunger mute, and other
mutes but have never heard this sound before. It was a piece in which
he was accompanied by the legendary pianist Jelly Roll Morton.
Does anyone here have any idea what other types of mutes they would
have been using back in the 20's?
