Brooklyn Arts Council - JOB OPENING: PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Work with our president to provide community programming in
Brooklyn, facilitate the Community Regrant Program, and maintain
BAC's Directory of Arts Organizations. This is an excellent growth
opportunity for a mid-level program coordinator or grants manager to
become a part of a well-established cultural organization.

BAC responds to the needs of artists across the diverse
neighborhoods of Brooklyn, which has quickly become the City's most
populous borough for artists and home to many leading arts groups.
Now celebrating our 40th anniversary, BAC plays a critical role in
the City's support network of service organizations for individual
artists and small cultural groups, ranging from the experimental and
cutting edge to those preserving and transforming traditions of
cultural heritage.

Signature BAC programs and services:

* Arts education programs bring dance, music, arts and literature to
over 100,000 New York City public school students, teachers and
parents each year.

* Folk Feet, a dance initiative, uncovers and showcases the rich
global cultures thriving in Brooklyn, through a performance
festival, workshops and oral histories.

* Grants Program provides funds for artists and small arts groups to
create and present work in all artistic disciplines through
community-based arts projects throughout Brooklyn.

* Career Services such as our popular free seminar series, online
artist registry, news and information, and one-on-ones with BAC
staff, help artists sharpen skills and make the connections they
need to thrive in the New York art world.

* Special Exhibitions and Festivals, from the Printmakers'
Portfolio, which publishes, exhibits and markets work by local
printmakers, to the BAC International Film and Video Festival, to
tapping into events like the DUMBO Art Under the Bridge Festival and
Lincoln Center Out of Doors give Brooklyn artists venues to present
new works.

* Community outreach programs leverage the arts to change people's
lives in senior centers, community facilities, and other non-
traditional spaces.

Responsibilities:

• Scheduling and attending 20-25 community performances and
programs.
• Liaising between the artists, the community and the venue,
including matching the needs of each community with their
corresponding artist or group.
• Writing guidelines and assisting in design of grant applications
and related materials.
• Managing grant seminars, the panel process and fielding applicant
questions.
• Program follow-up, including grant notification, monitoring,
auditing and ensuring contract compliance.
• Maintaining BAC's Directory of Arts Organizations, library of
resources, digital and paper filing systems and databases.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years programming and grants management experience preferred.

• Excellent writing and interpersonal skills; management and
administrative capabilities

• Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe InDesign

• Experience in theater/performing arts

• Enthusiastic interest in the arts and the communities BAC serves

• Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree a plus
