I hadn't looked at the group for quite awhile and was surprised whern
I peeked in to find nothing but a few "spammy" messages over the past
few months. So, what's happening with the band???

I've caught a few episodes of Jamie's recently released (in the US)
show and have enjoyed it, but it's on at an awkward time on the West
Coast for me.., 9:30am. Tough to catch after a bad/good Friday night
and means I miss out on all the best produce and goods at the Farmer's
Market when I am up early enough to watch =(

Sure wish Jamie could come to terms with the folks at Food Network
about posting content, or that he offered it elsewhere... it'sa real
pisser to only see 2-3 recipes posted and then have them come down in
4 days!! I'd much prefer to watch him prepare the foods himself, but
at least when I can't have that, the recipes are certainly top of the
mark!

.

An  incredible  love story has come out of  China recently and  managed to touch the world.
It  is a story of a man  and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other   in peace for over half a century.

The  70-year-old Chinese man who hand-carved over 6,000 stairs up a  mountain for his 80-year-old wife has passed away in the cave  which has been the couple's home for the last 50  years.

Over 50  years ago, Liu Guojiang a 19  year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed   mother named Xu Chaoqin..
In a twist  worthy of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, friends and  relatives criticized the relationship because of the age  difference and the fact that Xu already had children.

At that time, it  was unacceptable and immoral for a young man  to love an  older woman.. To avoid the market gossip and the scorn of  their communities, the couple decided to  elope and lived  in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern  ChongQing Municipality.

In the  beginning, life was harsh as hey had nothing, no electricity  or even food.  They had to eat grass and roots they found  in the mountain, and Liu made a  kerosene lamp that they  used to light up their lives.

Xu felt that she  had tied Liu down and repeatedly asked him, 'Are you  regretful? Liu always replied, 'As long as we are industrious,  life will improve.'

In the second year  of living  in the mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to   hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the  mountain  easily.
Half a century  later in 2001, a group of adventurers were  exploring the  forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the   over 6,000 hand-carved steps.  Liu MingSheng,   one of their seven children said, 'My parents loved each  other so much, they  have lived in seclusion for over 50  years and never been apart a single day.  He hand carved  more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's   convenience, although she doesn't go down the mountain  that  much.'
The couple had   lived in peace for over 50 years until last week. Liu,  now 72 years, returned  from his daily farm work and  collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband as  he  passed away in her arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no  one was able  to release the grip he had on his wife's  hand even after he had passed away.

'You  promised me you'll take care of me, you'll always be with me  until the day I died, now you left before me, how am I going  to live without you?'

Xu spent days softly repeating  this sentence and touching her husband's black coffin with  tears rolling down her cheeks.

In 2006, their story  became one of the top 10 love stories from China , collected  by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government has decided  to  preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as  a museum, so this love  story can live forever.

Hey Guys!

There is an important global warming initiative, Earth Hour, taking
place in Australia and around the world on 29th March 2008.

At 8pm on March 29, cities around the world will turn off their lights
for one hour to show that it's possible to take action on global warming.

All households, communities and business will be invited to turn their
lights off for one hour from 8pm on 29th March 2008.

My family will be turning off the lights in our home for Earth Hour
and we would like to seek your support in this movement by turning the
lights in your own home on 29th March 2008, between 8pm to 9pm.

Apart from doing that, as individual, you can do more. Here are some
suggestions:
1. Forward this email to all your friends now!
2. Remind your friends on the day itself and do it where ever you are
3. If you are schooling/working, initiate the movement in your own
school/office if it has not already done so.

You can find out more of HOW you can do something by visiting the
Singapore movement at:
http://earthhoursingapore.blogspot.com
or Global movement at:

Thanks so much for the update! I've been thinking of SD a lot lately
what with Jamie's newest show about to hit the states. I figured they
were no longer, but please let them know how wonderfully their music
affected me!! I get teary EVERY time I hear "Just the Start" ('s
quite embarrasing really ...) :) because it just taps something in my
heart. Maybe it's the song AND Jamie.

Anyway, please pass on my wishes for much love and luck to all the
members of the band; Jamie included!!

Cheers,

Michele in Pensacola, FL

Happy 2008 to everyone! To those that just joined, this site isn't
active any more because Scarlet Division have gone their separate
ways. Many people still find this club after hearing the band's
music on Oliver's Twist and old Naked Chef episodes and even on
Youtube. But it's been quite a while since the band played together
and the members are all doing their own things now...

Jamie Oliver: is still cooking and is about to kick up some fuss
about Battery farming in the UK with his new documentary 'Jamie's
Fowl Dinners'. He still plays drums and there has been talk of
making a charity recipe album of songs like 'Lamb Curry' and 'Fish
Stew' with songwriter friend, Leigh Haggerwood. This is a bit of fun
and Jamie doesn't take his singing seriously!

Louise Brannan: The original singer in Scarlet Division had a baby
last year and is no longer in the music business as far as we know.
She has a great voice and it's a shame the band didn't work out in
the way everyone hoped.

Leigh Haggerwood: Was always the driving force behind Scarlet
Division and continues to write music for the media (
www.ukcomposer.com ). He has written a lot of new songs since
Sundial, Oliver's Twist etc, and plans to record with a new band
soon.

So why keep this club open? Why not? There are people hearing the
band around the world all the time and this is a good way of letting
people know if anything new happens. In the mean time we will not
send you any annoying emails so thanks for listening and best wishes
for the new year!

Hi everybody,
it's the first time I'm wrinting to the group, and the only thing I want to say is: dear Dan Spengler I agree with you. It is time to think and talk (or write) about Scarlet Division, it's a shame to see that this fan club has become, ONLY, a Jamie club.
I really appreciate the guy, and he was the first reason I joint the group, but I think Scarlet Division deserve attention and the group wants information about the band.

Hi Anthony, No they used commercial tracks for that series. When
budgets allow, production companies will pay a lot of money to use

The new series 'Jamie at home' features music by a singer songwriter

Thank you both! Yes things have gone very quiet with the band these
days. Everyone is off doing their own thing, yet our performances
still air on TV around the world so people are still interested
which is great.

It's a shame that we can't get together much anymore - mainly
because Jamie is so busy. But the music goes on! I am still writing
songs and producing music at http://www.ukcomposer.com and the
guitarists are doing sessions and working with bands around the
world.

I'm not sure whether Scarlet Division will ever record another CD,
but Jamie and I still do a good line in comedy food songs like 'Fish
Stew' and 'Give it to me Hot' and their are plans to write a new one
soon.

I will certainly keep you posted if any new Scarlet Division plans
are on the horizon and thanks again for your interest.

Cheers

Leigh

Cheers

Leigh

I for one agree with you, Dan.
I'm hoping to find a new Scarlet Division CD in the near future (even
if it's a single?...)
Leigh sure is a great musician. The best I can do is burn a CD with
the songs I found on the group and over the internet.

Hope the band gets together for more projects!

I love Jamie's cooking shows and all (they show at 4 AM here and I
stay up to watch whenever they are on), but I think it's kind of a
shame to see that this fan club has basically become a Jamie club. I
know Jamie's success takes up a lot of his time, which is totally
understandable, but every time I stop by here looking for info on the
band, all I see is talk about Jamie's work outside of the band which
is kind of discouraging as a fan.

It's not that he doesn't deserve it (he deserves it more than most of
the hacks on Food Network if you ask me), but I think Scarlet Division
deserve attention of their own. I've got several mp3s and would love
to see wider success for the band. The other members of the band are
so talented, it'd be a shame not to get more music out of them.
Leigh's music has great pop and rock sensibilities, and Louise is one
of maybe three or four female vocalists in the genre that I actually
find engaging to listen to.

Anyway, that's my support for the rest of the band. Hope to hear more
music out of you someday.

Yeah, thanks, I downloaded it overnight...right now I'm getting Leno (I prefer Dave but c'mon...BORAT! LOL), The office, CSI and Ugly Betty. I got Earl overnight too. :-)

Ju,

The Letterman guests last night were:

Wednesday, November 8
Dustin Hoffman (Stranger Than Fiction)
Chef, Jamie Oliver (Author, "Jamie's Italy")
Cast of the Metropolitan Opera's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia"

It's definitely worth the download!  At the beginning of the show, Dave introduced him in an especially nice way, too, as though he really likes, respects, and enjoys him.  That actually struck me since it's unusual for Dave ..haha!  Who wouldn't appreciate Jamie, though?!!?!

Oh dear...one more thing to download! Hee. I love Dave anyway, so it won't be too much of a sacrifice though. Who were the other guests?

Kisses,

Jamie was just on Late Night with David Letterman tonight, and he was BRILLIANT!!!  He was VERY amusing and even had Letterman laughing.  He said that this was his "BEST segment ever" at the end, and I agree.

I also saw him on the Today Show the other day where he also did really well and threw pasta at the camera so that it stuck and hung there, blocking the view.. haha!  Seems like he's having a lot of fun on his trip here!

I'm so sorry! Sucks you can't do what you want to with your own songs! Imagine what poor Sir Paul feels like after being duped by Wacko Jacko ...

ANYway, I'll go to Jamiesmusic.com. Thanks. And we love your stuff!!!

Cheers,

I would GLADLY pay for them that's for sure! Thanks so much for the link. The theme song (love to whomever wrote it), was what drew me in to watch his show in the first place!!!! Then of course, I was a goner after I saw Jamie and Jools!!! :)

I haven't seen Jamie in America yet. Is that a new program or is he touring over here???? He needs to come to the Gulf Coast so I can see him!!

I am thoroughly enjoying his Great Italian Escape though. I just love his passion and his true concern for making people happy through his food, but also his quest to make people understand how to eat good, fresh, healthy things for themselves!!! You can truly see how much he cares about food. Even cooler is that Jools understands this. :) Can't wait for next week!!

Love to all!

Cheers,

Michele

Hey guys - there is an official download site for the songs from Jamie's shows at...
We used to give them away for free but we ran into problems with the TV company who share the rights to the Oliver's Twist theme song and other Scarlet Division stuff. Also, the musicians were never making a penny from their performances.
So all of the songs have been digitally re-mastered and re-mixed in some cases. The Fish Stew song was featured in Jamie Oliver's recent live shows in Australia and will be broadcast in a new TV programme soon (Network Ten then rest of the world).

So whilst i'm all for letting people hear the songs, please go easy on giving them to other people for free unless they're in the 'files' section of this club.

Thanks

ps - has anyone seen Jamie in America this week?

Elisa, I have the full song (I got it off the Scarlet Division website, I think, so there you go, guys), but I thought you said you had the shortened version for the "Oliver's Twist" opening...? I'd like that one, please! :-)

Kisses,

Ju

Oooh, Elisa, could you PLEASE send it to me, also????   I LOVE that song, and it's now my personal theme song since my life is just starting over!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

AHHH!!! Elisa! Could you email it to me as well? I love that song sooo much!!! .

Funny you both should write. I just saw my first hour of Jamie's Great Italian Escape and I am sooo happy!!! What a wonderful series! Glad to see him get away from all the bother of the paparazzi and have some nice time with Jools too. I'm wondering though (for any of the SD folks), why he didn't take his mentor Genarro with him?

I'm here in the states so we are always way behind on shows like this, so I'm just grateful the Travel Channel is airing it.

Anyway, happy singing and cooking!!! :D

Cheers!
