Hi, Shane Bartell (who's awesome, by the way, cf.
www.shanebartell.com) asked me to fill in this Saturday from 8 to 9pm
at Flip's Sattelite Cafe! It's located at 7101 Hwy. 71
West. See www.flipnotics.com for more info!

Also, we/I got invited back to "big Flipnotics" for a date in
September (the 14th). So that's great.

Have a great week!

(I know this is a last-minute announcement, but I just got news of it
last night!)

Dear friends,

Tonight I'll be playing at Mozart's coffee shop on Lake Austin Blvd
from 9pm until "whenever." (I plan to play until 11pm). Joining me
will be Kevin Gathright on some smallish percussion implement.

And hopefully, (master-guitarist) Paul Finley will show up play during
my break!

Cheers,
Scott

Hi. FYI, Tara Jade will not be opening for me this Friday
at Triumph Cafe. She had a death in the family and will be unavailable.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Tara's family.

Dear friends,

(quick summary:
Fri July 8, Triumph Cafe, 7pm, Tara Jade opens.
Sun July 10, First EV Free Church, opening for Betty Soo's CD Release
party #2, 7pm)

************@#$%^&%$^&%^& Hey group of people! What is it that is
happening? I myself am feeling rather exuberant at this very moment,
if I may be so bold. Relax your buttocks! Freshen it up, my good
lord and/or lady. %$^&**^&%$$**************

This Friday I'll be playing at Triumph Cafe (3808 Spicewood Springs Rd
in northwest Austin). The lovely and talented Tara Jade is scheduled
to open at 7pm. For more info on Tara, and to hear samples of her
excellent voice, check out www.funhousemusic.net.

Also, I got a call today from Betty Soo (www.bettysoo.com), who's
doing her 2nd CD release party (her first was at the Cactus...) this
Sunday at First Evangelical Free Church, and she asked me to open for
her!
(Betty & I have a few things in common, not the least of which is
having Stephen Doster as the producer of our albums.) I'll be playing
for 30 or 40 minutes, starting at 7pm, in the upstairs "college
fellowship" stage. For directions, see www.fefc.org. (Also
significantly, Betty & I both defy the common "Asian-American"
stereotypes!)

Myself, bassist Steve Allen and dummer Kevin Gathright have been
practicing on Tuesday nights for a few weeks now, and with the help
new booking agent Valerie Kremer (who's no doubt embarassed to see her
name in print ;-) ), we should be doing a bunch more gigs in the
coming months. Keep checking my "performances" page for the full
schedule!

Best wishes,
Scott

Dear friends,

It's time again for the Kerrville Folk Festival!!!!!!1one!1!!

Kerrville is "teh rox0rz", as we l33t FPS ha><0rZ may say. Kerrville
pwns. "chown -R us /YourBase" and whatnot!! But Kerrville is
n00b-friendly, too! (No PKers to worry about on the Ranch.)

And while me'm still too low on the "ladder server" to merit a
main-stage spawn point, I love hanging out 'n' about there, playing at
the Ballad Tree and around campsites, meeting new friends and old...
ah.... boiling inside my tent at 9am, stumbling from lack of sleep...
  ah... Kerrville!

So, you come too, and hang wit' teh krue. Many many l337
sing0r-5ongwr1tRz to listen to, folks 2 bond wit', etc!

I'll (Lord willing) definitely be there from this Thursday until
Monday.... and maybe I'll come back for another weekend too, but no
promises there!

So Come! Or be suxorz! ;-)

Dear friends,

My show at Flipnotics has been pushed back a week. So rather than
being this Wednesday, it will be the following Wednesday, May 11.
Same time, 9:45. It'll be a great show!

I'm playing this Friday at Triumph Cafe at 7:30. And at 8:30, for
those of you at home, the "Songwriters Series" episode with Chelle
Murrey, Michelle Citrin and myself will air on AMN.

Best wishes,

Dear friends,

The recording well really well last night. The other songwriters
(Chelle Murrey & Michelle Citrin) were excellent. I managed to sing
fairly well despite being sick. It was a little weird having a camera
pointed at my right hand and fretboard the whole time --- I felt like
I was giving a guitar clinic!

I told you that the program would air tonight. Not true.
Can you ever trust me again?
It will air May 6 on Austin Music Network at 8:30pm.

May 6 is also when I'm playing at Triumph Cafe, so I'll have to see it
on video. :-)

Best wishes,
Scott
P.S.- May 4 is a "headlining" show at Flipnotics. It'd be really
great if you could make it out that night.

Dear friends,

Several great new developments are underway!

- Playing on TV! I've been asked to do a recording session
for the "Songwriters Sessions" show on the Austin Music
Network. We're recording this Thursday, April 21, and
you're invited! It actually occurs outside, so all of
   this is "Weather Permitting...".
Concert begins shortly after 8:30 PM when it is
properly dark and our set is properly lit.
     Directions:
From IH 35. Take the Riverside Exit and head East.
Travel East down Riverside Dr. for two miles. After
Pleasant Valley Rd. one of the next rights will be
Riverside Farms road where you will take a right and
travel down about a 1/2 mile to 2407 Riverside Farms Road
on your left and join us for our Songwriters Series
        Showcase Concert.
Two other songwriters will be performing. The lineup is:
      Chelle Murrey (www.chellemurrey.com)
      Scott Hawley (www.scotthawley.com)
      Michelle Citrin (www.michellecitrin.com)
Show should air the following night at 8:30pm on AMN.

- Bassist found!! After months of searching for the right
guy to fit the job, it turns out that STEVE ALLEN (who
played on the CD) is available again! So, in addition to
the usual solo gigs, we'll start having some power trio gigs.
Dates TBA, but maybe as early as May 6's show at
   Triumph Cafe

- Headlining at Flipnotics! Wednesday May 4, at 9:45PM.
Please do come! I have some other gigs too, like
the TV spot (below), and Triumph Cafe on May 6, but in
particular I really hope you can make it to Flipnotics.

- Now there's a store! http://www.cafepress.com/scotthawley
All kinds of logo- and photo-endowed "swag", i.e. knicknacks,
   for your ...fandom pleasure.

Best wishes,
Scott

Dear friends,

Hey! Last night's show at the Austin Songwriters Group went really
well! It was a real pleasure to meet Chip Dolan, Pauline Reese and
Monte Warden*. (Of course, Chip was my favorite.) Here's a link to
a photo:
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/scotthawley/v
wp?.dir=/&.dnm=threadgills-003.jpg

So, despite not setting up gigs myself for December, I'm getting some
good phone calls! After Brent's call yesterday regarding the ASG, I
got a call from Sara of Saradora's, inviting me to come play at the
Round Rock Artisan's walk....but I had to turn it down.

Then today I get a call from Paul Q-Pek (not K-Pax) who invited me to
come be the "featured guest" for a gathering of his artists' community
on Monday night! I met Paul when we both played at the SIMS
Foundation benefit last week, and we both liked each others
stuff...wow he's got a great voice.

So, on to details:

Paul's community is part of a church called "Calvary Worship Center",
where he's the "music guy" (his words). The location is way north on
Burnet, almost to Round Rock. cf.
http://www.cwcaustin.org/location.asp
Starts at 7pm. Monday December 6. I'll be playing 3 songs or so, and
Paul will be interviewing me about songwriting, and playing, and
...probably something embarassing. :-)
No cover. And snackies are involved!

Enjoy the music,
Scott

*Brent Allen of ASG actually called back to make sure I wouldn't
"freak out" that I was sharing the stage with Monte (who wrote the
George Strait hit "Desperately" with Bruce Robison) and Pauline. But
my ignorance of honky-tonk tunes made me impervious to such a panic
attack. I honestly thought to myself, after we hung up, "Wait... Maybe
he meant Monte MONTGOMERY and PATTY GRIFFIN?? Wow..that could be
intimidating."

Dear Friends,

Tuesday's CD release party was a huge success!! Glad that so many of
you came out to enjoy the music. Here's a brief report:
That afternoon, KGSR selected the first track, "Quiver", to play on
the air for the Daily Demo! That evening, despite the early
performance time, torrential rain and heavy traffic, over 75 people
showed up to pack the Cactus! Drummer Kevin Gathright and I played
one of our best shows ever....I was having a great time. I had
resolved to not be nervous, to listen to Kevin, to sing well and have
a good time! Oh yea, and many of you bought CDs! Kudos.

Next week I have two (FREE!) performances:

Monday at Artz' Rib House, I'll play the so-called "bummer" set
during the break of Sarah Elizabeth Cambpell & The Banned! It's a
privelege to play at Artz, and Sarah et al are a great band. The
break happens around 8pm.

Tuesday I'll be on Sixth Street for the SIMMS Benefit at B.D.
Riley's. Many other people will be performing. Here's a flyer:
http://www.scotthawley.com/BenefitFlyer.jpg
I go on sometime between 8 and 9, but I'll be hanging around to
listen to others; you should too!

If you didn't get a chance to get a CD, you can buy them from
Waterloo Records at 6th & Lamar, and CDBaby.com

Dear friends,

This is just a reminder that tonight I'm doing a

6 to 7pm!!! (Directions below)

This is the "release party" for my new EP, "Partial,"
which I recorded with Austin producer-guru
Stephen Doster!

Kevin Gathright, wunderkind-drummer (and also engineer
on two tracks) will be playing tonight! It might be
that the cellist, Brian Standefer (Patty Griffin's cellist)
may show up too, but it'll probably be just Kevin & me.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
-Scott

Directions: The Cactus is in southwest corner of the
"Texas Union" building of the UT Campus, on Gaudelupe
street, pretty much right across from the Barnes & Noble
(so, about 23rd street). Although UT's parking frees up
at 5:45, it will probably be easiest to park a block or two
west of the Union, on say Nueces or Rio Grande streets.

Hey, sorry for all the e-mails. Much has been afoot. I'll
try to give you a break after this:

***Regarding the Baker House Concert Series this Saturday:
The address is 1436 Circle Ridge (off Red Bud Trail), in Austin.
And the cover is not necessarily $10. Rather, as Paul Barker says:
"All tickets are at the door--actually, I have a contribution
jar and people put their money in it--I don't "sell" tickets so
as to not be a business...."

****Regarding the CD RELEASE PARTY: November 16 is the
date! So, 6-7pm November 16 at the Cactus. It'll be great
to see so many friends there!

Also, the Seattle's Best show has been changed from Nov 19

Hey everybody! Thanks for all your support. (With patrons like you, who needs
the NEA?
I kid.) I've starting to get bookings at some more "professional" venues, as
you'll see below.
I'm rather excited about this. Also, drummer Kevin Gathright and I will be
getting
together again after a long hiatus, and that's always a good thing. (the
getting-back-
together-part, I mean. not the hiatus. although, that was okay too.)
...Kevin's been
loaning me his amp for months. Is he a rock (I mean folk!) star or what? I
thought
you'd agree.

So.

This Saturday I'll be playing at the esteemed Barker House Concert Series in
(kinda
Westlake-Hills-ish) Austin, opening for Colin Brooks and Robert Frith. (Not
Robert Fripp.)
Both of these guys are GREAT singer-songwriters. I'm playing from 7:30 to 8pm.
For
tickets and availability contact Paul Barker via e-mail at pbarker(AT)texas.net.
I'm pretty
sure it's only 10 bucks, and it goes straight to the artists. And Paul's pretty
dig-able too.
So. Great show, you'd best come. "Station."

The following is a list of concerts I recommend, and where you can stalk me.
A few of them are my own gigs, the others are not.

David Wilcox - Oct 22, Cactus Cafe, Austin.
............Wilcox. Nuf said? Be there.
Barker HC - Oct 23, see above
Brian Lee - Oct 29, House concert at John & Jeanie
.........McGaughy's. Brian Lee is incredible. If you want to
.........hear a male vocalist and songwriter who will
.........utterly knock your socks off, there's hardly better in Austin.
.........To listen is to become an instant Brian Lee fan.
Eric Johnson - Nov 2 & 3, Cactus Cafe. "Acoustic Guitar & Piano".
........Interesting. Most of us know Johnson as an electric player.
Scott Hawley - Nov 9 - *SAXON PUB*, BABY!! Lee Duffy of the
........Austin Songwriters Group got me this gig. I'll either play
........6pm to 6:45 or 6:45 to 7:30. So, time TBA.
Johnsmith - Nov 11, Live Oak Concert series, Live Oak UU,
........Cedar Park
Scott Hawley - Nov 13, JP's Java, Austin. 7-9pm.
Finally....

**Scott Hawley - Nov 16 or 22 or 23 -- **CD RELEASE PARTY ***,
......CACTUS CAFE, Austin. I'm having to be very persistent
......with the manager of the Cactus to get the date nailed down...
......It'll be from 6pm to 7pm whichever night it happens...
......(And, I *JUST* approved the final version of the CD artwork
......proofs --- sigh of relief --- so the CDs should be ready well
......in advance.)

See www.scotthawley.com for updates, links & details.

Take it to the max,
Scott
(I just made that phrase up. Feel free to use it. Just don't credit me.)

(If you're getting this for the second time, sorry. I never got my copy,
so I assume most other people didn't get theirs....)

HEY! GUESS WHAT?

Paul Barker sent me an e-mail this morning asking if I'd be willing
to play the "bummer" slot tonight at Artz Rib House (2330 S Lamar
Blvd) after(/during?) Sara Elizabeth Campbell's set.

Gee...let me think....
(Again, Artz is, as I put it, "where GOOD people play".)

So! From 8:30pm to 9pm, I'll be playing! (That's no "bummer" to
me!)

Now, FYI, I (and many other people) go to Artz on Monday nights
ANYWAY (e.g., I was hoping to go tonight), starting around 7pm, to
hear Sara Elizabeth Campbell and the Banned. There's no cover, and
there's good food, and the music is always great.

Just...if you get there late, you may have a hard time sitting with
a view of the musicians, but it may be that by 8:30pm, people will
have partially cleared out.

See you there! (?)
-Scott
P.S.-CD stuff: Turned in NEW artwork today, waiting for proofs.
Let's hope 3rd time is the charm!

Dear Friends,

The past weekend at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance went GREAT!
So extremely excellent, in fact, that I need to write up a "report"
for you guys, so you can read about all the cool things that happened.
But... I haven't written it yet, so...stay tuned.

This Saturday, from 7 to 9pm I'll be playing at JP's Java, on the
corner of San Jacinto & Duval. JOINING ME to play during the break
will be the talented Jaime Steger! Jaime & I met the last time we
each played at Seattle's Best Coffee (when Scott & Michelle Dalziel
www.dalziel.net) came to town. Maybe we should due a whole tour of
the unpaid-coffeeshop-circuit...Anyway.

Also, I've got a few more gigs lined up:

October 23 (day after David Wilcox's concert!) I'll be opening for
Colin Brooks & Robert Frith at the Barker House Concert Series, which
is over in Westlake. Contact info for Paul's concerts
is...forthcoming. Check www.scotthawley.com for an update.

December 14, I'll be playing at the Saxon Pub, sharing a slot from 6
to 7:30pm. Thanks to Lee Duffy of the Austin Songwriters Group for
this slot --- Lee and I have the same producer, Stephen Doster!

Today I foisted myself on Griff Luneburg of the Cactus Cafe once more
in hopes of scheduling the CD RELEASE PARTY there in a couple weeks.
He said he'd get back to me. Yea, right... So I'll be visiting the
Cactus every night this week! ;-)

...and then I'll be lining up more of the usual gigs at Triumph, JP's,
and Seattle's Best for October & November. More on these later.

Be excellent to one another,
Scott

Dear friends,

I was going to keep a secret from you, because I
didn't think you'd be able to come, but I was wrong
about that! Turns out anybody can come and hear
not just me, but bunches of (even better!) singer-
songwriters play for hours, FOR FREE!! So, like, come.

So, I'm performing four (1/2-hour) "showcase" slots
at the 2004 Southwest Regional Folk Alliance
Conference, which is in Austin this year, out at the
Lakeway Inn and Resort.
(cf. http://www.musicoffice.com/swfolk/)

Here's my little flyer...
http://www.scotthawley.com/webpostcardfront.jpg
...which lists my performances as follows:

Thursday:
.......11:30pm, Room 727
...............("Performance Alley" showcase)

Friday(-Saturday):
.......Midnight, Room 805
...............("Alan & John's" showcase)

Saturday(-Sunday) two shows!
........Midnight in Room 810
..............("Lynda Jones'" showcase)
........2:10am in Room 727
..............("Performace Alley" showcase)

I'd love to tell you the story of how each of these
slots got lined up (thanks to friends like Karen Mal
and the Big Guy upstairs), but it's late and I need to
either bed down or do some science...

But, here's a link for the back of the flyer,
promoting the new CD!
http://www.scotthawley.com/webpostcardback.jpg
CD-wise, the "proofs" still aren't coming out right,
so I gotta go over and bust some heads!

Peace,
Scott

Dear Friends,

Tonight I'm playing a special show at Seattle's Best Coffee (5th &
Lamar) from 9pm to 10. It'd be great to see you!

Also, yesterday I turned in everything related to the EP to the
duplication company! So in a couple weeks, I should have
some CDs for you!

Cheers,
Scott
