Dana Lyons kicks off the Seattle Folklore Society fall concert series with a
special concert on the eve of the International Day of Peace. Dana's cunning
use of humor and satire keeps the audience engaged and connected with the topic
at hand. His songs are a powerful voice for world peace and environmental
stewardship. Dana wrote the song, "Circle the World" about Jane
Goodall's vision of her Giant Peace Dove puppets being so numerous on the
International Day of Peace that they'd be visible from outer space. Dana and
Jane subsequently created a CD featuring Dana's songs and Jane's stories titled
"Circle the World."
"Dana is a master at mixing playful humor with social and environmental
activism. His voice is beautiful, his songs are funny, relevant and thought
provoking." - Backbone Concert Series, Vashon Island
The International Day of Peace was first established in 1981 by the United
Nations General Assembly to be observed on the opening day of each annual
session. On September 7, 2001, the GA modified the resolution to designate
September 21st as the annual date of the International Day of Peace. The
intention of the resolution is to have the entire world observe a day of peace
and nonviolence. All peoples and organizations are invited to commemorate the
day in an appropriate manner. An ever-expanding number of people worldwide,
representing a wide variety of traditions, have committed to the task of
working with other like-minded individuals and groups for International Day of
Peace observances.
