Oh god, please excuse the group email. I know I shall wind up in hell or,
worse, the Barfly.
But I simply MUST tell you about Papaya Paranoia, who are playing in London
this Tuesday, 10 May.
Papaya Paranoia are Yumiko and Michiko, plus support guitarist Kenya (the
man, not the place) and theirs is a sound of mystical urgency, a crashing
combination of hi-tech digital music and traditional Japanese vocals.
Dressed in full kimono, Yumiko commands the stage with lungs even bigger
than her constant smile, while Michiko hammers the bass and electrical
stuff.
Trust me, they're dead good. They played their first ever UK show last night
in Eastbourne, some 20 years after their inception, to rapturous reception.
And they're playing TWO London shows in ONE rather hectic night.
THE EARLIER SHOW
Tuesday 10 May
White Heat at Madame Jojo's
8-10 Brewer Street
Soho, London
On stage 8.30ish/£3-£5
www.whiteheatmayfair.com
THE LATER SHOW
Tuesday 10 May
Cargo
83 Rivington Street
Kingsland Viaduct
Shoreditch, London
On stage 10.30ish/£2-£4
www.cargo-london.com
www.papayaparanoia.com
I hope you'll come to one of them, or I face purgatory for nothing.
Daniel
