Re: [Shibuya-kei] new member introduction

Oh yes I know exactly what you mean about Mr Children, Dragon Ash and Bump of
Chicken style dross. When I lived in Japan I met very few people who liked my
kind of music. I did find a great club night in a tiny basement in Tokyo once
which played Takeko Minekawa, Pizzicato Five etc. The scene was miniscule. It
seems Melt Banana and the Polysics is the most cutting edge stuff in Japan at
the moment. Oh and have you heard Kahimi Karie, I went to a gig of hers that
bowled me over.

Hi all, I'm glad to meet a group who has actually

Pizzicato Five, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Towa Tei
and Takako Minekawa, and a little bit of Cibo Matto &
Cornelius.

It would be nice if this was the dominant form of
Japanese music. Unfortunately, over the years I've
listened to most lifeless, boring crud from the
Japanese music industry. Whenever a Japanese youth
puts a CD on and asks me, "what do you think?" (Utada
Hikaru/Mr. Children etc.) I say... annooooo it's okay,
but have you ever heard of Pizzicato Five? I like
Pizzicato Five "style" music. And they will inevitably
look confused, screw up their face and say, "they're
quite old, aren't they?"

So I hope to get a better response from the members of
this group - learn some new artists, hear about
past/future gigs, and up-and coming albums.

mmm - maybe new members should have a question list to
fill out - so they don't ramble on like me. Something
like:

1. How well do you know your chicken? (cibo matto)
2. What do your kids want at Christmas time - a gift
from Santa or a Strawberry Sleighride? (P5)
3. Under which circumstances would you talk to an
angel? (FPM)

Hey - even if no-one gets the references, I'm sure
we'd get some cool answers!

Cheers all:)

Mark
