Dear all,

My apologies for the intrusion, and please don't hesitate to tell me if you would rather not have received this notice - I am trying to attract a diverse selection of experience to an aspect of my graduate project on Musical Genre, and thought it might interest you anyway.

This Wednesday November 9, 2005, at 9 o'clock AM EST a weekly 30-minute broadcast called "GENRE IMPLOSION" I'm producing and hosting on CFMU 93.3 FM (Hamilton, Ontario Canada, a Community Radio Station run by the McMaster University Student Union).  Since the vast majority of recipients of this note live outside the CFMU listening area, you can find the broadcast live at 9 o'clock on Wednesdays (LIVE - not recorded: for copyright reasons there is no download or podcast link) at www.cfmu.mcmaster.ca.  The show is a presentation of diverse musical material, properties and ideas that cross lines of genre distinction - so be ready to listen to a fair amount of music you don't know... but to consider what you already know (and may even like) about it.

Whether you're able to tune in or not, pay a visit to the project website at www.genreimplosion.ca - while still under construction as my thesis project unfolds it is a collecting point for various bits of my research on Musical Genre in postmodern times, and the ideas I am putting forward in the project.  There is a short online survey I'd love as much response to as possible - it is a very unscientific attempt to track people's experience of the Musical Genre system (or phenomenon or construction), which is so semantically, politically and economically central to our musical world.

Thanks for your time!
