It will support record stores because people that want the actual physical
release will go buy. Good stuff.

But if more than 1000 want it?

Tough shit?

That's dumb.

MP3 is bollocks...along with DVD's, Blu-Ray's and VHS. Betamax is the way
forward.

Vinyl is collectable and lovely but also (sadly) archaic and of the past.

I personally like a torrent download of a vinyl rip...the best of both worlds.

The hole concept of it is to support independent record shops which originally
sold and still is selling vinyl. Mp3 is alot of bollocks anyway.

It definitely sounds better for sure. People want compressed because they want
more, more and more because they think it's free. As it is via torrent sites.
Shame.

Although...record companies have been whoring out there artists for years paying
them a pittance (smaller artists) and taking the massive profits so fuck them I
say.

Difficult.

Radiohead's approach is best.

Hi all,

I was going to mention what a great article and interview Mojo magazine did... I
have to say it was a great bit of journalism to pull together the views and
thoughts of all of the original members of the band.
I was also going to give out about Q magazines general decline, when today by
chance, I was thumbing through the new issue, with "The Real Best of" on the
front, to find a double page review of the Minds Roundhouse gig...along with
some great photos, giving the gig 4 out of 5.

There is some shred of hope for Q as they obviously have not gotten rid of All
of their reviewers with at least some good taste in music!

Just because they raved about something that needed to be raved about doesn't
mean Q has any credibility IMHO.

Best band in the world today?

Coldplay?

Case rested.

Hi Stuart

I haven’t read the articles you speak of but I think it’s great that the
Minds are getting due credit at last! But before you go and praise Q too
much I think they just go with the flow. For some reason Simple Minds has
suddenly become very cool again.

But it is the 30+ years old material they are being praised for! Let’s hope
it continues so they also get mentioned for the new stuff…

I think it’s the right choice when they combine the festival shows with
greatest hits and 5x5 to give the young festival audience a glimpse of the
whole picture and thereby win some new fans.

Cheers

Thomas

Q just wants to look coherent (which they're not). If they say Simple
Minds since 86 is shit they HAVE to praise the early stuff.

But they did like SFY and put GNFTNW among top albums when it was
released to slash all modern Simple Minds later.

No editorial line whatsoever!

FOR SALE; SIMPLE MINDS PRESENTATION AWARD;

Simple minds New Gold Dream Gold award, presented to Schoolhouse Management by
the IFPI, Ireland. The plaque reads: "Official gold disc award Presented to
Bruce Findlay for sales in Ireland of more than 15,000 copies of the album NEW
GOLD DREAM 1985"

This disc does not get a much higher pedigree than this, and as such, there is a
letter of authentication signed by Bruce on Schoolhouse management headed
notepaper, guaranteeing it's authenticity. I will further endorse this by saying
that I collected this from his office in edinburgh personally in september 2000

Due to the fragile nature of this item, i really would prefer collection only,
or i can deliver as long as costs are covered.

I will put this open to sensible offers. I also refuse to put it on ebay, as I
don't want it to to get buried with all those cheap fakes on there, also, I want
this to go to a really good home.

Hopefully, you can see a photo here
http://www.sosimpleminded.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12145&p=183605#post183605

Please email me privately with offers .

Any questions, do ask:-)

Thanks.

I read somewhere that sales may be limited to 1 per customer, which is
understandable with a run of 1000.

Maybe they should have made in one copy for ultimate rarity.

X5 took a week to sell 4,000 copies. It would be a surprise for me if they sell
1,000 copies of a 12' in a day.

I read somewhere that sales may be limited to 1 per customer, which is
understandable with a run of 1000.

I'm sure remaining copies will still be available to get after this Record Store
Day event. But if 1000 copies distributed worldwide doesn't give stores many
copies to sell.
It would be a pity to queue up for it to find out the guy in front has just
bought all 20 copies after offering to buy it for others.

Hi,
According to what I've found out about the 12" is not ever store taking
part in the event will have the Simple Minds vinyl, it all depends on what
they order. I think the best thing to do is contact the store a day or two
before the event and ask them if they've order it.
You could end up waiting outside the shop for hours and they haven't even
ordered it.
Also after a week the shops will place any left over stock on there
web-sites and you'll be able to purchase them on-line but that's a huge gamble
with a Limited Edition of 1000.
If your not a collector and just want to hear the new re-mixes then I'm
sure Simple Minds wouldn't deny there fans this and surely at one point
they'll be made available through I-Tunes (fingers crossed for that).

Stuart.

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick note that I listed a MEGA rare BBC concert transcription 2 CD set
on eBay. It contains the full recording of the 1995 Glasgow concert. This is a
mega rare item, less than 100 copies were made of it and most were destroyed
after the concert was broadcasted.

Here is your chance to grab this rarity.

I totally agree with it being uploaded to a torrent site for us all to enjoy. I
think this concert was on radio at around about the same time and i have it on
cassette somewhere. Just wish i had the proper equipment for me to share this.
If and when i do i will let you all know.

Hi

I was on Itunes today and came across Theme For Great Cities (Nissn Remix).

I've never heard, or seen this before.  It's categorised as a Simple Minds
release, and also uses "The Best Of" artwork too

Anyone know anything about it????

How's this for a phenomenal clip, Jim & Charlie being interviewed by Dick Clark
on American Bandstand in 1983!

For those who may not know, Dick Clark, who died last week, was the host of
American Bandstand from its inception in 1952 until its demise in 1989. He was
long known in the States by his nickname, "America's Oldest Teenager."

American Bandstand was a kind of US equivalent to the UK's long-running Top of
the Pops, except "Bandstand" usually featured only one or two performances,
while the rest of the show consisted of scenes of teens dancing to current hits.
Like TotP, Bandstand's musical guests "mouthed" their lyrics over a recording of
the song.

American Bandstand's policy for the most was serving milder musical guests, like
teen heartthrobs and mainstream pop acts rather than creative groups such as the
Minds. Before this, the most unexpected clip from American Bandstand I'd ever
seen was of Dick Clark interviewing John Lydon of PiL.

Here's Dick Clark interviewing Jim & Charlie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T77wu1--KK4&feature=related

I was just going to end this by saying that I wished the clip of them performing
were on Bandstand were available. And then I found it! Not very clean but if
you're a fan, who cares!:

Simple Minds performing "Someone Somewhere (in Summertime)" 16 April 1983:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPcOlI-8_Cc&feature=related

OT: Just for fun, here's PiL on American Bandstand who Clark introduces as
"something interesting and special." View at your own risk :-), :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZLhqTzjpUM

Best,

Dave

P.S.: I love PiL and their generically-titled album "Album" is one of my
all-time favorites, but in all honestly, while it may all have been an act, I
recall the old saying: "a little humility goes a long way."

Here's the other song SM's did on American Bandstand, "Promised You a Miracle."

I still can't believe SM's performed on that show! I guess Lionel Ritchie,
Kenny Rogers, and Kim Carnes were all on tour out and of the country at the
exact same time!! ;-)

Enjoy!:
