hello i joined this group about a month ago and haven't posted
anything. sorry to be one of those egroup members, but i am tired of
joining so many groups and no one is talking about anything at all so
i thought that i would say something about myself at least since i've
read other peoples messages introducing themselves and it seems like a
nice way to get to know people i think. my name is david i live near
wheeling w.v. in the u.s. i am going to college majoring in art ed. my
favorite albums lately have been the new b/s album, i just got it a
few weeks ago. i was a little afraid of buying it at first because
their past albums are so wonderful and i was afraid that they might
have changed their music a little as some bands do over time i
suppose. my favorite songs on the album are nice day for a sulk, its a
nice song to sing along to in my car on my way to school and the third
song on the album, i can't remember what its called but its very nice
too. i also just got the first gentle waves album and have listened to
it about a million times. other albums that i've been listening to
lately are guided by voices-under the bushes, under the stars, its a
good album to listen to in the fall, harriet the spy-unfuckable album
is nice, the dead milkmen, dinosaur jr., oz mutantes, man or
asrtoman. my likes in people are that they are not insincere, fake,
artificial, ignorant, selfish, mean-spirited, and don't care about
being people with good intentions (i am a little insanely neurotic and
obsessive about disliking people with these qualities) its a little
hard to find people without these qualities i suppose. my favorite
movies at the moment are hocus pocus, casper, and rushmore, i just
rented it(my favorite part in the movie is when mr. blume takes max's
bike and runs over it with his car,i also noticed mr. littlejeans in
the movie, he is in the background alot he was applejack in bottle
rocket. his character is funny. i have to stop now, i can't beleive
that i've blabbed way too long in this message and have to go.
RALPH NADER IN 2004
it's very good.
i like the song that goes: i'd rather be fat than be
confused.

wow. it has been awhile since there has been any posts on this thing and too
be honest with you i thought it might just cease to exist after a certain
period of inactivity. anyway...yeah i guess it has been a little light in
the B&S news as of late....i was on yahoo chat the other day(just to torture
myself apparently) and i stumbled into a room called "indie" and the
description of the room was "a place for all the anorak wearing belle and
sebastian fans to meet"...well the chat room was empty..but if any of you
fancy yourselves as chatters..drop in there sometime maybe you can even let
me know what the hell an anorak is. i have an idea. someone respond to this
thing and maybe this list can start teeming with life soon. fingers stuck
crossed. love steven

Hi Everyone,
No one's posted to this list in such a long time that
the everyone has probably forgotten that we're still
on it. I guess that there hasn't been much Belle &
Sebastian news, and thus, not a whole lot to talk
about.
Well, looking at NME's and Jeepster's web sites, I
found some new B&S announcements that I thought I'd
share with the few of us on this list.
The first 3 e.p.'s are being re-released, packaged
together in a slipcase, with no new tracks. (Jeepster
says it can sell just the new case and artwork to
those who already bought them individually.) It will
also be available outside the U.K., so if you're
outside of the U.K., you won't have to buy it as an
import.
According to NME, B&S have finished 20 new songs and
are just picking which ones to include on the new
album due out this spring or summer. B&S will also be
releasing a 3-song ep before the album's released. No
tour announcements thus far.
Anyone interested in reading more can go to:

Article from dotmusic:
Belle & Sebastian have been speaking on their website about the band's
delayed new album, an appearance on the revamped Tube and giving advice for
students.
According to a piece written for The Glasgow University Guardian, main
songwriter Stuart Murdoch plans to unveil two new songs in some sort of
medley format, on The Apocalypse Tube, entitled 'Thank You For The Music'
and 'The Day We Went To Bangor'.

I may be condemned to the loser list after this post, but something splendid
happened to me today. I was meandering in the Village searching for some
tunes for the weekend and intent on purchasing Felt's "Forever Breathes the
Lonely Word". The only record store in the Village to sell this record, to
my knowledge, was Other Music (15 E 4th St.) at the expensive price of
approximately $25.00. Suffice it to say, I do not typically have this
quantity of dough to spend on a single record, but I made the exception for
Lawrence. Regardless, I was sojourning in Other Music's La Decadanse
(whatever the hell that means!) section which contains Felt's records, but
"Forever Breathes the Lonely Word" was nowhere in sight. I was distraught
but reluctantly continued to browse among the other Felt releases in stock.
Next, I heard an Other Music employee directioning a customer in the
direction of the Felt section. But I continued to browse with another set
of hands to contend with in the tight confines of Other Music. I thought it
polite to initiate conversation with my fellow Felt fan and said, "So, you
like Felt too?" I looked up expecting a reply, and, to my delight, I gazed
upon one of the cutest members of the opposite sex that I've ever had the
pleasure to see. She had dark brown locks fashioned into a twee bob haircut
with bangs to about to the middle of her forehead (incidentally, girls, I
think that bangs are absolutely darling and it's a shame that so few of you
currently sport this haircut ) and wearing a sky blue jumper beneath a
brownish wool coat. And she had the most gorgeous blue eyes that I've ever
laid eyes upon. Eyes that instantly make you forget the question that you
had just asked and, evidentally, have the ineffable power to make me prattle
about Felt incessantly, as I proceeded to spew comment after comment about
every Felt item in stock, e.g. "Absolute Classic Masterpieces" vols. I and
II, "Crumbling the Antiseptic Beatuty/The Splendour of Fear", and "Me and a
Monkey on the Moon." I recommended which albums to buy and in which order,
the quality (or lack thereof) of Lawrence's vocals on each release, the
Deebank Felt vs. the Duffy Felt, and Felt's influence on subsequent groups
like Belle and Sebastian.
In retrospect, I haven't the slighest indication whether my erudition
impressed her or created the impression that I'm merely a pretentious prig.
Whether it was apparent to Ms. Other Music or not, my loquacity regarding
Lawrence and crew was directly attributable to the fact that I could think
of absolutely nothing else to blab about. Nonetheless, at my request, she
purchased "Absolute Classic Masterpieces" vol. 2, as she had previosuly
heard "Strange Idol Patterns and Other Short Stories" and seemed to like
Lawrence's poppier side. After her purchase, we parted company and
exchanged good-byes. I concluded our dialogue with the cheezy line "It was
nice to meet another Felt fan". A sure way to pick-up the ladies, eh?
Nevertheless, we never exchanged names and, immediately after she left, I
thought of a thousand ways to continue our discussion, e.g. "If you have an
e-mail, I can mail you the addresses of web sites with Felt info." But I am
such a dim-witted goofball that this didn't even occur to me at the time!
To cut to the chase, even if you've read little to none of the above, please
read this. Ms. Other Music is probably an NYU student, and, when I inquired
about how she heard of Lawrence and company, she mentioned that her friend
owned "Strange Idols Pattern...". Therefore, if you go to NYU or live in
the Village, and a friend fits the description mentioned above and comes
bragging about the brilliance of Martin Duffy's keyboarding on "Absolute
Classic Masterpieces" vol. 2., please forward her this e-mail! But if that
twee Felt kitten is reading this post, then, if you're interested in me or
just Lawrence, please respond by email (markniciu@...)! And, in
case your wondering why in the world I am posting this to Belle and
Sebastian lists, many new fans have discovered Felt through the influence of
Belle and Sebastian's lyrics and liner notes. Chances are that if Ms. Other
Music's friend likes Felt, she probably listens to B&S as well and,
fortuitously, is a member of a B&S list.
If you've read all this, then you have my sincere apologies for the exposure
to my histrionics.

So I am sitting here waiting to brace for hurricane
irene.....
I am also soooooooo sick. I just feel like utter,
complete crap. And to top it all off I have to babysit
at 5:30 and its too late to cancel.
It is parents weekend here at school so my dad tried
to make me feel better and bought me the acid house
sndtk and I must say I love it already. It was so
adorable. He came to my room and goes, "Well I walking
down the road in Georgetown and I saw this sign that
said 'Featuring belle and sebastian' and I thought you
liked them so I bought it for you." hehe, you can
never have too many copies of slow graffiti.
I'll start a best of thing, best belle and sebastian
songs. My vote is tossed between electronic
renaissance and put the book back on the shelf.

It's me again. Insomnia is ravaging at this wee hour of the morning. As
there appears to be no new Belle and Sebastian news to report and the end of
the decade is rapidly approaching (the first that I've lived through
cognizant of music minus any Disney tracks), is anyone up for "best of"
lists, e.g. "Top 25 Albums of the Decade", "Top 50 Songs of the Decade",
"Top 10 Guitarists", "Songwriters", etc.? If anyone is interested in rating
the best (or worst), I'm game as this should provide plenty of grist for our
sinister mill until the release of Belle and Sebastian's new LP. Give me a
few days to think and I'll start off the fun with a "Top 25 Albums of the
Decade" list.
Mark
Hey blokes and birds,
A friend of mine introduced me to the splendor and the mystery of Felt
earlier this year, and I am as attracted to and enamored by Lawrence and
company as I am by Murdoch and crew. Does anyone out in Belle and Sebastian
land own any live recordings of Felt? Lawrence's admiration of Television
and Tom Verlaine is well known, and, given Richard Lloyd's tendency to "jam"
in concert, I assume Maurice Deebank often did the same. Anyway, songs like
"Birdmen" and "The Stagnant Pool" have long guitar solos built-in. It would
be an absolute delight if anyone had such recordings to share because
Deebank's virtuosity on the guitar is unmatched (among 1980s guitarists,
only Johnny Marr and Will Sergeant of Echo and the Bunnymen are in the same
league as Mo).

Hello there chums, I thought I would promote the simplethings list by,
well, adding messages to it. Sorry if I am being a nuisance.
At the moment I am sitting next to a Danish girl called Sine, in this
comp lab.
I am listening to Radio One on the internet while I write and it is good
to hear old radio one even though it is Pete Tong. The trouble is, I
don't have ear phones so I have to play it out of the pc, so a few
people can hear it. This girl behind me has told me to turn it down but
it wasn't even that loud, must be the type of music I suppose.
Anyway, what is everybody up to? I just finished my mid term yesterday
and it was bloody hard. But I played Belle and Sebastian really loud
last night, to celebrate the finis of it all, until December anyway.
Well my little thread will begin with the summer. What did everyone get
up to in the summer? Come on, I know you know where the summer goes, and
I want you to tell the list in all of its explicit glory, of shattered
dreams of horses and making cults to suit your affairs.
Well just to ease your feet into the sea, I will describe my summer.
It was mostly taken up with Kafkaesque struggles of trying to get my
visa and stuff so I could get over here, Canada. But not just that, I
had precisely 14 days of excellent fun, 2 girlfriends of limited length,
3 Mc Donalds, 2 visitors to my home, 6 cultural outings, The Globe,
Hatfield House, Kensal Green and Highgate cemetries, Hogarth's House and
the Millennium Dome. 11 nigh outs, 5 novels and two historical books on
the American Revolution. Two abusive exchanges with strangers, 39 days
of employment and zero cups of tea.
I hope that helps, YOU MAY NOW PROCEED

Hi,
I just thought I would join the bandwagon and introduce myself to you all...
Name: Stephanie
Age: 22
From: Georgia
Likes: record shopping, writing, reading, going to shows, elephants, ice
cream, most prime-time cartoons, Party of Five, the sun, root beer, thrift
stores, amusement parks, the ocean
Dislikes: all other kinds of shopping, people who are mean to others for no
reason at all, moths, slugs, not having any money, most romantic comedies,
fashion magazines that say they're promoting individuality but in reality
promote sameness, people who always act superior
Bands I like: Belle & Sebastian (obviously...), Super Furries, Manics, Olivia
Tremor Control, Gorky's, Apples in stereo, Flying Saucer Attack, the Sea and
Cake and thousands of others
And that's all I can think of to say for right now.
Cheers,
Stephanie
As a natural follower I have taken the hint to give my "hello" letter.
My name is Dominik and im 21 years old. Obviously im a belle and sebastian
fan but i am also enjoying the musical sounds of Momus, cornelius, arling &
cameron, pizzicato 5, and fantastic plastic machine, apples in stereo,
etc... hmmmmm i actually purchased belle and sebastians 'the boy with the
arab strap' album on a whim, which shows that im a recent fan of their's but
i love everything they have done. As to what brought me here, well i dont
know how many people on this list are from texas :) but if there arnt any im
not too suprised! I really only have one other friend who knows who the hell
they are. I currently live in dallas (used to live in wurzburg, germany) and
most people here think that MTV is just fantastic and the groups (insert
generic cockrock band here) just rule.... I love music so its just nice to
talk and listen to people who like some of the same bands i do...
Hello, thought I too would jump on the bandwagon and say a good hello!
to all three of you on this list :)
I too, will introduce myself. Here goes: I am 19, I love Belle and
Sebastian. I am male. I am a student in Montreal but am British. I am
from London. I went to the Belle and Sebastian Primrose Hill bash, back
in July.
I actually sound like a German now, but I'm not. I like to laugh . . .
etcetera. I'm on the list because I left the Sinister for reasons that
shall remain unknown to you lot here, in case I offend any of you or you
have contacts with them.
What do I like? Sorry, I'm not very quirky today so it'll have to be
boring stuff like, sleep. I also like . . . jeez well you got me
there.
What I dislike is, this mouse cursor which I cannot direct on my comp
screen! God that is annoying actually. I don't like people who are too
serious. I hate bullshit, which is kinda not really saying anything new
for mankind there but . . . Ooh I know!! I don't like GAP people, yeh!
It's like a uniform man, "what-ever".
Ooh I like Americans though, well the intelligent ones anyway, they're
not all thick as shit jerry springer stylee over here y'know. They seem
to be very sincere in everything they say . . .
What else? Well, I like reading most of the time, although it's mid
terms here at the mo and I'm kinda off reading anymore. But I like JD
Salinger, big fuck off History Books with lots of pictures in it too.
Anyway, I'm off, favourite lyric to Belle and Sebastian is
"Everybody's trying to make us,
Another cool decade of fakers,
Another century of fakers"

So I've decided to jump on the bandwagon and introduce

the metro needs to be opened 24 hours a day.
What I like: coffee ice cream with butterscotch sauce,
glasses (I have 5 pairs!), photography, sweaters,
adidas sneakers, glitter, my indie boy,
::coughblurcough:: (shh!), archers and lemonade, any
form of caffeine, sailor moon, art history, playing my
piano, going to engerland
What I don't like: Mushrooms, capers, the pokemon
craze, math, the dining hall at my school, people who
think they are superior to me because they have more
CDs than me, Long Island, my roomate, people who yell
at me for using the elevator because i live on the 2nd
floor.
Yeah, so that's me. Hopefully more people will
introduce themselves:-)

hello,
Well, my friend in the UK just sent me a copy of the live set B&S did at the
Bowlie Weekender. Oho, it's brilliant! LazyLinePainterJane brought the house
down, really good. Well, my fav song is "Seeing Other People" definitley. They
put my little reason why i love the song on the jeepster site. Fav album, I'm
not lying when I say I can't choose becuase they are all so good.

ok, i'll introduce myself. i'm a 21 year old secretary from the east coast,
usa. i don't have much work to do, so i thought i'd join some lists & find
some things in common with other people. i don't do that too well on my
own, socially speaking. here are some of my favorite things: platform
shoes, scarfs, my cat pepper, antipasto salad, makeup, dancing, booze, tall
& skinny boys, live bands, the sifyl & olly show, singing in the shower,
jangly pop songs, typing in all lowercase letters. here are some things i
can't stand: mullet haircuts, brussel sprouts, sausage, fake fingernails,
stereotypes, really big cars, people who don't like belle & sebastian.
i'm gonna have to really think about my favorite b & s lyrics, so i'll get
back to you on that. i'm on about 3 hours' sleep here.
later,
heather
p.s. - my hotmail is acting wacky today, so if this message is a partial
repeat, i apologize.
i expected this list to start out slow and pick up steam as more and more
people signed up. well people have signed up...but it just seems that the
cat has all of our tongues. i wish i knew a way to get the ball
rolling...but truth be known i don't know much of the news surrounding the
band, maybe there is just not much to report. but i do know that there are
lots of interesting people out there who love this band as much as i do and
i'm just as interested in getting to know you. so tell me what makes you.
tell me what the thing that brought you here was...tell me the lyric from
that song that just makes your heart skip a beat. say something. say
anything. i'm interested to know who is out there. love steven
greetings, fellow listees. i just want to express my hope that none of you
were affected by the tragic Paddington train crash. what a horrible
accident. my sincerest sympathies go out to all of the victims & their
loved ones.

i just got finished driving cross country...2300 miles in 2 days, all
alone..just a set of headphones and a few cd's. i was thinking about the red
house painters "retrospective" cd thing that just came out and in order to
pass the time i started thinking about what if the honor was bestowed upon
me to pick the tracks for a b&s retrospective type thing...what songs would
i pick? well i decided that i would have to limit my tracks to 10. so here
they are...(not really in a particular order)
1. we rule the school
2. fox in the snow
3. simple things
4. expectations
5. boy done wrong again
6. the boy with the arab strap
7. stars of track and field
8. beautiful
9. electronic renaissance
10. dylan in the movies
i dunno...if i had to leave it at ten i guess this would be what i would
have to do. i would be interested to see if these are similar to what most
of you all would pick..or not. i'd be interested in seeing yours. also...any
b&s fans on here from nyc? love steven

0 one has posted very often on here....hmm.....i guess we have shy fingers.
well, guess what, im listening to some brand spanking new compact discs.
Death in Vegas' 'The Contino Sessions' is just superb: if the Chemical
Brothers' 'Surrender' was, say, Luke Skywalker, then 'The Contino Sessions'
would be Darth Vader. er...in other words, its on a similar vein but its
much much nastier and darker.
im also listening to the new one by Tindersticks which is absolutely
beautiful and soulful and definitely their purest album to date. its just
yum. and! ive got tickets to see them in november.....which is nice.
oh and im also listening to Ben & Jason's latest which is very mellow and
quite good.
anyway, im going to read nineteen eighty-four now, so byebye till next time.

Hey there this is my first posting and it's very strange to be doing
this again. The Belle and Sebastian sinister list was annoying, I hope
this isn't. I WANT CALM, PEOPLE!!!
