CORRECTION: Please forgive me everyone; but I have previously posted I had an Autographed  I Can't Believe It's Not All Over Album

I had put the album away to preserve it.  I did some research and found my album
on the Net. It is THE BEST OF SKEETER DAVIS VOL II.  Forgive me Skeeter.
When I saw her pretty face on the album and The Songs listed I knew that was the one.

I am happy to hear that Skeeters fame is reaching out not only on our posts here and
you tube but into Television and Movies.  Skeeter is smiling down on us...

Sincerely Ed.

Skeeter's names is over the news wires again but this time it's not in regards to Susan Boyle's cover but another song. Actress Zoey Deschanel and musican M. Ward who sing as rock/folk duo She & Him have recorded a cover of Skeeter's GONNA GET ALONG WITH YOUR NOW in their new album. Although this song was a hit for several artists it's clearly Skeeter's verision they are paying hommage to - the song is specifically mentioned as a Skeeter Davis song in the news articles and the only other cover on the album is NRBQ's "Ridin' in My Car".

Hey Randy,

I had to honor her. I got exposed to her when her music was used in the movie "Big Eden", and just moved by her. And have fallen in love with her music ever since. This site of mine is new, if you can do what you can to promote it, and I will do what I can to promote your Yahoo group. The site is new, and it takes about a month for the domain name to show up in search engines, so until then cut and paste the entire link, that would be wonderful.  I will put a link to your group on the Skeeter page tonight. Tom.

Tom, that was a neat tribute to our Skeeter. Fitting that you chose her birthday month to celebrate her artistry. I have had, over the years, people who do not like country music to say they do like Skeeter's music. I have seen Skeeter in person several times when I got to go to the Opry, but sadly, I only got to meet her twice. Boy, do I treasure those memory's. The last time was in August 1998. I have photos from that Opry appearance in the photo album section here. Merry Christmas! Randy

For those of you not familar with Donna Frost and her relationship with Skeeter,
I thought you might enjoy the following news item from my local paper when Donna
did a tribute show to Skeeter at our annual covered bridge festival in June
2007. Donna is trying hard to get Skeeter into both the Country and Rock 'n
Roll Hall of Fames.

Donna Frost to pay homage to idol at Moscow Festival
Elizabeth Gist

June 21, 2007 11:54 am

— She was a true rebel in the country music industry. She was a free spirit. She
wore jeans, had long-haired hippie-looking fellas playing in her band and
criticized President Nixon's continuation of the Vietnam War with her
self-written recording of "When You Gonna Bring Our Soldiers Home." She, along
with Hank Williams Sr., was one of the two artists to ever be suspended from the
Grand Ole Opry.
She was the incomparable Skeeter Davis.
When Donna Frost was a little girl, her Aunt Mary booked Chet Atkins' business.
Her aunt's best friend was Skeeter Davis, whose No. 1 hit, "The End of the
World," dominated pop charts in 1963 and was produced by Chet Atkins.
Donna came from a musical family. She began playing piano at age 9, guitar at
age 11. Her family was in a band and she began touring with them at the ripe old
age of 2-weeks-old, and hit the professional circuit in high school. So it was
only appropriate that her hero was none other than Skeeter Davis.
"I fell in love with her and her music right away," Frost said. "I always told
people, even Skeeter, that someday I was going to sing on stage with her when I
grew up. My mom would do my hair like Skeeter's and I would sing into a
hairbrush. I was just crazy about her."
Skeeter and Donna stayed in touch over the years. Donna's Aunt Mary passed away
in 1995, and in 1996 Skeeter was diagnosed with bone cancer.
"I remember that she called me and said, `Are you ready to sing with me?' and I
was just floored because she never used back-up singers," Donna said. "She said,
`I don't know where Barbados is, but we're going there.'"
In 1996, Donna sang with Skeeter on New Year's Eve in St. Lucia for the first
time. It was not the last. Donna continued on the road with Skeeter until her
cancer prohibited her from doing what she did best.
In Nashville, Ind., the duo performed at a small theater where many of Skeeter's
friends and family came to see the show. Donna opened the show for her friend,
something that back-up singers never get to do.
"She always came to my CD release parties," Frost said. "She was so supportive
of me, too, which was just amazing to me because I idolized her my whole life.
Getting to sing all of the songs that I grew up with was one of the highlights
of my life."
Donna recalls her first experience on the Grand Ole Opry with her hero.
"The only time I ever got scared was when I was on the Opry with Skeeter," she
said. "She always told me, `I'm going to find a way to get you on the Opry stage
with me someday. I thought it was just a pipe dream because Opry rules are very
strict. Artists had a limit of how many performers they could bring with them on
stage, most artists performing had to use the house band, that kind of thing.
But Skeeter was one of the few artists that could have her own band there. I
remember being in the rehearsal room and I began to panic, thinking `What if I
forget my words? It's live! Everyone hears the good, the bad and the ugly ...'
So I wrote the lyrics on my hand just in case and my knees were just knocking
like crazy. I remember standing there on those wooden boards thinking of all the
people who had stood there before me, you know? Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn ...
Luckily I didn't forget, which was a good thing, because the ink smeared."
When Skeeter's illness took over, she became even more of an inspiration to
Donna.
"I'd see her backstage before we'd go on, doubled over in pain, but she'd always
bounce out there with a smile on her face and perform. She never let her illness
keep her down. Everyone could learn a lesson from her."
When it got to the point where Skeeter's illness prohibited her from performing,
their friendship only got stronger.
"We talked all the time on the phone for hours at a time, staying connected,"
Frost said.
When Skeeter's brother became ill she went down to Florida to care for him until
he died, putting her own illness on hold. At this point, she told Donna that her
own cancer had spread. It broke her friend's heart to no end.
The last time Donna saw Skeeter was in January 2004, a few months before she
passed. Donna was in Florida, on tour with her band, and she and Skeeter were
able to go out to eat and spend the whole day and night together. News of
Skeeter's death in September of 2004 hit Donna like a rock.
"I said `I won't believe it until I see her,'" she recalled. "She meant so much
to me and was such a mentor to me. I still want to pick up the phone and call
her. You never forget someone like her. She's by far one of the best women I've
ever met."
Donna was an honorary pallbearer at Skeeter's funeral.
"I was sitting out in the crowd at the Ryman Auditorium, and Jeannie Pruitt and
Jeanne Sealy came up to me and said, `You're coming with us,'" Donna said. "I
was just flabbergasted. Here were these legendary women of country music coming
to find me!"
They came to find her as a final gift to Donna from Skeeter. As part of the
funeral arrangements she orchestrated before her death, Skeeter had arranged for
Lorrie Morgan, Martina McBride and the other Grand Ladies of the Grand Ole Opry
to sing "Amazing Grace" and asked that Donna be included with them.
"Jeannie told me, `She chose you in life and she chose you for this day too,'"
Donna said. "What a gift! Even in her death, she was still looking after me. I
still can't believe to this day that I got to take part in that. It was really
special, completely overwhelming, and all of the Grand Ladies were so gracious
to me."
The experience inspired Donna to keep her mentor's music alive. She tours the
country performing a Skeeter Davis Tribute show, where she plays all of
Skeeter's well-knowns as well as the hidden jewels. It's not only a tribute to
an icon in country music history, but it tells the story of 40+ years of
friendship.
Patrons at the Moscow Covered Bridge Festival will be lucky enough to experience
this at 8 p.m. Friday on the Festival Stage. She and her four-piece band,
including her youngest brother, will enjoy what they have to offer, she assures.
"Our steel player is one of those people that `if you think it, I can play it,'
so we're going to turn him loose on some stuff," she said. "Of course, we're
going to play `The End of the World,' `Get Along Without You Now,' `Last Date,'
`More Than You Ever Know,' `The Rock-a-Bye Boogie' and all kinds of good stuff.
We're bringing the best of Skeeter's repertoire, and I'm sure it will bring back
a memory or two, and people will be singing in the crowd. It's always emotional
for me, because she's gone now. I couldn't even listen to `The End of the World'
after she died, and I always get choked up after I sing it. I just want everyone
to remember her and celebrate her."
Although she has quite a few irons in the fire, Frost hopes to someday see her
friend honored in the best way she knows how.
"My real hope is that someday she will be inducted into the Country Music Hall
of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," she said. "She was a real pioneer.
Faith Hill and Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood ... all of
those women owe a great deal to her because she opened the doors for them to
cross over from the country radio waves to pop stations. We're going to make it
happen. She's just too good to be forgotten, and all I want to do is keep her
spirit going and get her music out there."

I supplied the data to them for every one of these entries except for the Dean
Martin Show and Midnight Special (the site doesn't do have that much data for
specific variety show specials and episodes before 2000 so they are missing a
lot of credits for most music entertainers. Also IMDB got my add credits for the
75th Grand Ole Opry special mixed up and put them in the 70th Anniversary
special - I'm not positive if Skeeter was in the 70th but I know she was in the
75th albeit in a minor role. It was one of her last television appearances. I
have found the appearances dates for her guesting on the Jimmy Dean Show and
will be submitting that to them shortly.

We had mentioned about two months ago here that Susan was going to cover EOTW in
her album, perhaps you missed it. Susan Boyle's CD has put Skeeter's name back
in a number of newspapers via the reviews, including The Los Angeles Times.
Does anyone own a copy of this CD yet? I plan to get it but since it's for me
and this is Christmas I will wait a bit. I understand the CD liner notes
include comments by Susan on why she chose each song. I would love to know what
she wrote about EOTW.

Larry, there is a neat DVD that I may get someday when I have the $79 plus shipping. Country's Family Reunion has a DVD dedicated to Opry stars who have passed on in recent years. Skeeter is very prominant in the commercials. I can't at this moment tell you the title of the DVD. Skeeter was on yesterday morning on the RFD channel "Country's Family Reunion:Christmas". Skeeter sang C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S. It was good to see her on something again. I'd love to have been able to purchase the DVD from Skeeter's personal collection of one of her concerts that was listen on Ebay a few years ago. At least with Country's Family Reunion we get to see her on RFD TV. Randy

I share your frustration in not being able to get CD reissues on the rest of
Skeeter's catalog. Richard Weize reissues just what he wants to and nothing
more. He's also never done anything on Ferlin Husky. I once read that he
didn't think his early material was strong enough. After B.A.C.M. did a
reissue of very early recordings, taken from vinyl, and many when he was
known as Terry Preston, I'd have to agree with his assessment. But I still
hoped he might issue some of his late '50s or '60s material which is of very
good quality.

Weize supports his Bear Family label through his thriving mail order
business so he doesn't need to make a profit on what he puts out. I'm sure
many of his titles don't sell even a thousand copies total. You know he did
do a double CD on The Davis Sisters. He seems to have a habit of not
revisiting an artist once he's done something on them. We'd love to get more
on Kitty Wells, Webb Pierce, Jean Shepard, Ray Price, and many others that
got one box set. OTOH if the artist really interests him he will do set
after set, such as he has done with Ernest Tubb, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash,
Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, and a few others.

We're more likely to get someone like Jasmine, Collectables, or Collector's
Choice interested in reissuing Skeeter. But since there have already been
several hits collections, about the only thing left would be to do some
two-fers with two complete albums on one CD.

I found that the new Susan Boyle album that's selling so well includes a
cover of Skeeter's "End Of The World".

They gave no reason, and the response suggested that not in the near or distant
future either. I, too, marvelled at the number of artists on their website THAT
I HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE that they were issuing CDs AND BOX
SETS........interesting.

Hello all,
I wrote Bear Family Records recently asking whether or not there would be any
CDs forthcoming by SKeeter Davis. The answer was 'no'.

Pam, I'd love to see more of Skeeter's albums re-issued on Cd, but sadly RCA/BMG doesn't seem to be too keen on re-issuing any of her stuff. Thank God, she is still much loved overseas, they still even press new copies of her Lp's in Barbados! There has been a few nice packages released since she passed but not too much. Randy

Are you the one who put it in the You Tube songs - that's where I saw it. If
possible, we need to contact some of the people who performed with her - like a
Ricky Skaggs - and have influence with the powers that be in the "Opry" - to
bring up the subject. Any ideas?

Yes it is disappointing more have not stepped up and signed.
I forwarded it on the day I signed it and no one seemed to be interested.
You might try and contact J.Vincent Edwards.  I have been getting some messages from him from my youtube site.  He wrote songs for June Pointer "the country side of The Pointer Sisters".  He might be able to help us with the cause.
Sincerely
Ed

Dear Larry,

I cannot believe it! Though I had to order it by import out of Japan at the time, I paid about 35,00 guldens at that time for the CD.

This is about $22!

I will look out for this CD in The Netherlands and buy it when I can get it for a reasonable price for people in our group who would like to have it.

It’s my mission to make Skeeter’s music available for everyone, so she will not be forgotten.

In the Netherlands there is an import CD store, Hitsound Records in Rotterdam. The guy who runs the business is Willem Vonk.

Please find enclosed his website : http://www.hitsound.nl

He liked Skeeter too and also met her a couple of times. He can help you to find records and or CD’s. Also he can import from Japan or any country.

Please let me know if I can make more of Skeeter’s music available for our group.

Best regards,

Helen Hayes

I followed the bidding on a copy of this CD that Helen recently shared with the group. It opened at $24.99. On the last day of the auction (Nov. 8) it jumped to $42, then $51, and then to $66.

It was won by a sniper who placed a higher bid with three seconds to go. It went for $67, but who knows how much would have been bid if necessary. When you snipe like that you only have to pay a dollar more than whoever is currently highest. This gives an idea of how desirable this CD is. Three different people who were willing to pay more than $40 for it didn't get it.

Hi Larry, there are Skeeter fans out there who are willing to pay a high price for certain items. It took me 24 years to get a copy of Skeeter's Lp "Heartstrings". I bid on a sealed copy on Ebay and I ended up paying $125 plus shipping. It was at tax refund time and I was tired of being out bid everytime I saw a copy on Ebay! I can now no longer afford such a huge price for an item as my health has gotten bad and I can no longer throw away money like that. I do not regret paying that much for the album. I'd love to have a DVD of Skeeter's performances. I won't hold my breath! Randy
