Tony, a note I have for Skeeter's version of this on the album MARYFRANCES
says "alt. version". Can you elaborate on this? Did Skeeter do more than one
version of this song?

Hi,
For the really avid Skeeter fan who must have everything (like me),
you will find some Skeeter songs on CD at Barnes&Noble.com that you
won't find anywhere else, by that I mean compilations that will
contain a song that you will find nowhere else. I found these after
hours of intense searching and solicit your kind comments. Thanks..

Follow these links and I hope they take you there, if not, put in a
search for Skeeter Davis, then click on a link that will take you to
other albums to which she would have contributed. (It's a small
link, but look for it.)

(I Say A Little Prayer)

(Sweet Dreams - this one seems a bit fishy...like a misprint)

"Take Me Home, Country Roads" is on Skeeter's "Bring it on Home"
album and "Sweet Dreams" can be found on the Gold CD. However, I
can't find "I Say a Little Prayer" by Skeeter on any of her albums
so I have ordered the CD listed in Barnes & Noble (Burt Bacharah:
Magic Moments). Thanks!!
One CD to avoid that "supposedly" features Skeeter is "1000 Nadel
Stiche, Folge 7" put out by Bear Family Records. It is a great CD
featuring 30 songs done in German/Dutch (?). Includes Johnny Cash,
Jim Ed Brown, Lynn Anderson, Bobby Bare, among others. Also a 52-
page booklet with 2 nice photos of Skeeter (one with Bobby). Cut 30
is "G.I. Johnny" that is suppose to be by Skeeter. It is not!
Doesn't even sound like her. Sounds more like Jan Howard. You will
find this available on eBay from time to time.

Hi,
Actually, I have all of those songs on Skeeter albums, I meant that
they are not easy to find on CD. Thanks for the G. I. Johnny hint,
(or whatever the song is called)...I felt that it might have been a
hoax. I have a "Skeeter Gold" CD and it does not contain the
song "Sweet Dreams". Can someone please let me know what the
tracklist is like and if it is still available?

Skeeter Davis Gold is from Holland from 1993. Gold 063. Songs
included: "The End of the World," "Me and Bobby McGee," "Just When
I Needed you Most," "Deperado," "Crying Time," "Always on my
Mind," "Blue Kentucky Girl," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "I Can't
Stop Loving You," "I Honestly Love You," "Sweet Dreams," "Take It
Easy," "You Don't Have to be a Baby to Cry" and "Bye, Bye Love." It
can be found on eBay from time to time. And I just found that I did
have "I Say a Little Prayer" on "The Closest Thing to Love" album.
I should have double checked before I ordered.

Hey everybody,

I am new to the group and just read some of the posts from a while ago saying that somebody on the group was ripping their skeeter vinyl lp’s to cd.

quote: "I have been making my own Skeeter Davis CDs.   Right now, I'm  working on "It's Hard to Be a Woman."   They sound pretty good, in fact better than some of the early Skeeter Davis CDs that were put out.  I remove the clicks and pops and noise from the LPs.  Possibly one thing that keeps mine from sounding as "pristine" is that I don't have a top-flight turntable."

I hope they are working out well!

What program are you using to do it?

I can offer you a copy of Nero 6 Ultra Edition if you don’t have it already?

Its probably the best burning software around. You can rip vinyl to cd and mix it in a “virtual multi track studio”” and everything, plus lots of other types of different cd burning options and things.

I have been trying to find any Skeeter records but have’nt found 1 yet. I live in Adelaide (Australia) and there’s about as much vinyl as there is dinasoaurs ; )

Well I guess you will let the group know when you have finished ripping all the vinyl and let me know if you would like a copy of the Nero software as i dont have your email address i cant contact you directly,

Tane

The Oldies station in Indianapolis (WGLD, 104.5) conducts a 500
countdown every year in conjunction with the Indy 500 as voted by
the listeners. This year "The End of the World" by Skeeter placed
29th between Beatles and Beach Boys recordings. Not bad for a good
ole Kentucky girl! And Skeeter had the highest ranking among the
female artists. For a complete listing of the Top 500 from the
1950's, 60's and 70's, check out www.gold1045.com. ... by the way,

I have just come back from a trip to Nashville.....I rang Skeeter, but did not get to meet with her this time....she is going to be performing soon somewhere, but I have forgotten...it will be with some other opry legends.  So this is good news,   regards Nola

Yes, Skeeter appeared at this year's Golden Voice Show (no awards or
meal this year) on June 10th. This was her first public appearance
on stage in nearly 4 years. She looked fabulous, dressed in a long
green outfit. She didn't sing like the 30 some other artists did
before and after her. Host Eddie Stubbs of WMS talked to her
instead. She talked God and the power of prayer for keeping her
going and asked those in the audience to continue to pray for her.
She told Eddie that she hoped to be a guest on his weekly radio show
soon. Organizer Jeanne Pruett later said that it was people like
Skeeter that made the Golden Voice Show what it was all about.

It seems as if Skeeter's new CD is never gonna come out. This is the
second time it has been backordered (on all the sites) and i'm not
even sure that it is available on the Collectables site
(oldies.com). I am playing and holding my vinyl versions close....
Anyone has any remote idea if Skeeter is aware that more and more of
her work is being released on CD.

Yes, Skeeter is aware of the new CD coming out. She told the
audience at the Golden Voice Show on June 10 about it and urged
everyone to purchase one as that was what paid her bills. According
to the Collectibles site, it is suppose to be available today (July
6).

Thanks for the consolation, but Collectables does not ship to
Barbados and CD Universe had told me that they have no idea when they
will have it for sale, so I am still out to sea. I am elated to hear
that Skeeter has heard about the CD and has encouraged others to buy
it; I think it is a very good and timely release. I spent the entire
day from 9:00 a.m. to now, 9:25 p.m. recording her work from vinyl to
CD....I am so excited about it, and so love to talk about her and her
music, that I will release my list of accomplishments in my next
message...

I spent the entire
day from 9:00 a.m. to now, 9:25 p.m. recording her work from vinyl to
CD....I am so excited about it, and so love to talk about her and her
music, that I will release my list of accomplishments in my next
message...

Hi,
You need a stereo/turntable, some audio jacks to hook it/them up to
the computer. Then you need a computer programme that does recording
(like Cakewalk)... go through the tutorial, learn the basic functions
and that's a start. I don't know what process Andrew uses (you can
ask him too), but in Cakewalk you can do anything you want with the
songs (I'm still a novice since I only have done it for personal
preservation of my stuff).

Regards and lots of love.
