woah boy. lots of things in me box this morning. have a great weekend. xxx

when replying to this e-mail i recommend deleting the stock list,
because my mail server thinks it is spam otherwise.

---

SNCL RELEASES:

shermer / the machines will take over split 10" : both bands bring the
beard as they gruff their way through two top notch sides of melodic
hardcore / punk, playing at the rawer end of the hot water music /
small brown bike spectrum. you will grow a beard just listening to
this. aces! 4

NEW JAMS:

appleseed cast - peregrine 12" lp : new one from these ever popular
indie guys 6

carbonas - s/t 12" lp : flailing, spitting, drinking, posing, pogoing,
garagey punk rock. delivered with little regard for instrumentation or
skill or much else really. simple, straight forward and entirely a
kick ass listen. they've been compared to zero boys if that's any use
to ya. 5

car vs driver - the completist 2 x cd : such a good emo band from the
mid 90s or so. melodic and driving. well recommend. 6

chronic seizure - brainsick 7" : replete with black and white cover
this is obviously harking back to the first wave of DIY hardcore punk
rock in both aesthetic and sound. rough and ready, you get a prime 6
songs of exactly what you're expecting, i.e. hardcore fucking punk. 2.50

clorox girls - this dimension 12" lp : good old fashioned punk rock is
in fashion right now, and clorox girls are one of the bands wetting
the pants of MRR readers world wide. much of it sounds like the
ramones to me. good old fashioned punk rock all round. 7

efra / seeing means more split 7" : efra blaze away in a hectic
screamo fashion, barring the instrumental intro track this is bursting
with screaming, melodies and eases from the fast to the slow with
ease. somewhere between saetia and la quiete. seeing means more also
crank out the melodic european style screamo, with harsher vocals and
some chuggier moments. 2.50

formaldehyde junkies - jesus christ vice grip 7" : formaldehyde
junkies fire through 4 cuts of prime MRR-core. quality. back to basics
raw hardcore punk that probably sounds like bands who's sevens go for
1000 on ebay to snooty rich guys who got bored of punk whilst you
were still in the womb but need to recapture their youth as their soul
went out the window several years ago. 2.50

i object / fpo split 7" : i object crank out angry, quickfire
hardcore, messy and political. fpo have 1 song, of distorted, throaty
'core and hail from macedonia. fun red vinyl with yellow blobs. 2.50

ladyhawk - s/t 12" lp : this is superb indie rock, not really sure who
to compare it to though! it's just great. see if you can find a review
or their myspace. rocking. 6

light the fuse and run - fire sale cd : light the farts and run
collection of singles, gubbins and live stuff. featuring the infamous
steve carlin, omg! super good punk rock for fans of former members of
alfonsin etcetera... 5

lucero - the attic tapes 12" lp : finally repressed on vinyl. their
first release when they were a little different. includes a 7" repress
of the mega OOP 'my best girl' single 7

meneguar - s/t 7" : first new stuff in a while from these cats. lucky
for us there is no change in direction. quality indie rock is still
the order of the day. white vinyl. 3

neil on impression - the perfect tango cd : NOI create an epic
soundscape that will appeal to folks into post rock bands such as
explosions in the sky i reckon. features a guy from raein, but don't
expect skramz. 5

polaris - s/t 12" lp : the new album on gringo. somehow they managed
to follow up their excellent album from the 90s. incredible post rock
for those that remember polaris and listen to slint a lot. 8

shokei / kids explode split 12" : two german bands on this split.
shokei dish out some quality grooving emo with shouty vocals. kids
explode play melodic indie rock with a grittier punk edge to it.
they're compared to challenger and transistor transistor. 6

stars - set yourself on fire 12" lp : lovely lovely indie, boy girl
vocals, sweet songs. 7

three mile pilot - another desert another sea 12" lp : back once again
for your listening pleasure 8

tilly and the wall - bottoms of barrels 12" lp : like a more indie
version of defiance ohio perhaps? sweet. 8

torn avalanche / tight phantomz split 7" : TA is ex ten grand /
forstella ford (they have Whitney who was the FF drummer, OFF THA
HEWK!) and they despatch a grooving post punk thumper, sounding a bit
like nothing i can think of. tight phantomz are on the flip and they
deal in loud rock and roll. 2.50

woods - how to survive in + in the woods cd : lo-fi oddball folk music
from 2 chaps who spend time in meneguar. this is where they dispense
with the indie rock but maintain the creativity. top notch. 5

--

STILL HERE:

black castle / night wounds - split 7" : two screamy synth bands.
night Wounds' sound is a sort of rough, lo-fi, feedback driven
dance-punk ala Coughs or Black Dice during their "hardcore" era. Black
Castle's new track is more frantic than their previous work featuring
screamed vocals and dark, rushed keyboards and drums. : 2.50

collin kramer / eyston - split 7" : collin kramer have a song called
belle epoque?! i can't work out who is on what side here. anyway, the
first song sounds like breakwater or some other mid 90s killerness.
then you get a weird jazzy emo thing (not like off minor though). then
on the flipside is some melodic spazzy indie/emo like cyan / kossabone
red, followed by a hyper emo-thrasher. this 7" could be 4 bands for
all i know, but its apparently just two. this is really good, haven't
sold any yet which is daft : 2.50

combatwoundedveteran / scrotum grinder split 7" : grindy messy
violence, just how you love it : 2.50

damezumari - hitherandthithering waters of 10" : a step on from their
demo (hope you still have your exclusive SNCL edition!!) this is
melodic and rolling emo that will surely go down well with those in
love with life at these speeds and sinaloa : 5.25

del cielo - wish & wait 12" lp : super catchy melodic indie/punk lp
for fans of discount : 6

des ark / bellafea split 7" : both bands crank through some arty indie
: 2

devices - vices 12" lp : floridas the devices provide listeners with
a ten song 12 of their melodic screamo hardcore style. ex jesse
washington. nice bright green vinyl! : 6

the exelar - message from a moving target 7" : powerful and chaotic
hardcore. ex- i robot : 2.50

grey, the - asleep at the wheel cd : these post-hc rockers are back
with another fine cd. ex-shotmaker, 3 penny opera - continues in that
vein, melodic and rocking : 7

i spoke - autobiography cd : a whole load of songs from these canadian
skramsters : 5

jason collett - idols or exile 12" lp : alt country / americana /
indie-pop effort that the sticker on the front says dylanesque, which
is always a strange one to throw around as how is anyone supposed to
live up to that? anyway, this is really really nice, the guy has a
great lazy voice and the music is sweet as. if you like recent stuff
on subpop you will probably like this a lot : 6

kathy cashell - the question is yes cd : moody emotive singer
songer-writer, not merely acoustic stuff : 5

l'antietam - we like it 7" : good new screamy hardcore / emo, mixing
up the modern and the mid 90s to good effect. on slave union : 2.50

like young, the - last secrets 12" lp : ex-wolfie get their energetic
power pop flowing on polyvinyl courtesy of this 180g wax. sweet
boy/girl rockage, ready for the summer that is currently in hiding : 8

loma prieta - our ep is your lp 12" : one sided 12", furious screamo
with yelling, twinkles, melody and blasting chaos. aiiiiiiii! 4

mass movement of the moth - finale 10" lp : man, laser gun effects and
screamin' galore. retains a feel of witching hour whilst sprinkling in
a modern take on the all out chaos. brutal skramz : 6

mates of state - bring it back 12" lp : latest opus from the pop duo
legends : 8

meneguar - i was born at night 12" lp : great indie rock : 6

meth & goats - attack from meth&goat mountain 12" lp : sass like
you're on 31g in the late 90s! quality sassing, with the edge of a
band like festival of dead deer : 6

mt. gigantic - old smiler cd : great oddball indie, on the same path
as rapider than horsepower : 4

navies - an estate 12" ep : originally released on lovitt as a cdep,
taking influences ranging from punk and post-punk to european
psych-rock : 6

night & the city / the take split 7" : quality split of melodic punk
and emotional hardcore. awesome packaging too! 3

occam's razor - final 7" : total witching hour tribute from the over
the top packaging to the reversal of man style, full on emo violence
brutality. masters of the genre : 2.50

pash - kingwood cd : female fronted driving indie rock that sounds
like it could have come out on simple machines perhaps. sitting
somewhere between sarge and dahlia seed - smart! : 5

refuseniks - 19 to the dozen 12" lp : really surprised hardly anybody
has picked this up. speedy melodic hc punk that owes a bit to swiz,
articles of faith, dag nasty and minor threat. PSST, this means it
also sounds like torches to rome and former members of alfonsin. : 6

runn-a-mucks - inferno 12" lp : rip roaring hardcore punk rock plied
with the right amount of rock'n'roll, coming at you from six weeks
records like something out of the early 80s, e.g. jerrys kids / gang
green. kicks your arse, hard. 6

seein' red - worskpiel 12" lp : hardcore punk rock for hardcore punks. 5

shadow government, the - guns of august 12" lp : noisy stuff from
folks who have been in bands like ten grand and forstella ford : 7

sinaloa / catena collapse - split 7" : you probably know if you want
this or not! : 2.50

sleepytime trio - memory minus cd : discography of this awesome emo
band : 8

state run - paralysis 7" : absolutely smashing hc punk from these
welsh lads, mixing up DC and born against in a whirl of fury through 5
songs. check this shit out : 3

swing kids - s/t 7" : classic on 31g. 2.50

utarid / tialia - split 7" : both bands do a good take on chaotic
screamo : 2.50

ultra dolphins / order of the dying orchid split 7" : ultra dolphins
crank through some post punk of the highest calibre. like a saner
rapider or various bands you can name from the earliest 80s. cool!
this stuff is great. order of the dying orchid don't sound like
orchid, but more like a sassy post witching hour band. posturing and
white belt wearing ahoy! : 2.50

v/a - thrash before you die - tape : self explanatory! thrash! on a
tape! features bands such as the anorexics, filedrip, headxtrauma,
mountains of coke, small talk death and snorklepuss... ?!?! i am sure
you have heard of every last one of them. DIY OR DYI : 2

watch it burn / altaira - split 7" : both bands offer up some really
good melodic hc/punk. altaira are not far from hot water music on
their first song, then do a rougher jawbreaker-esque track. watch it
burn are coming off like melodic uk bands like blocko/broccoli/hooton
on the first song, the second is poppier. sweet! : 2.50

we leave at dawn 7" : south-western emo chaps deliver mid 90s-ish
goods on this melodic groover. they are all about the build ups and
the sobbing. hot jawns. 3

wow, owls - pick your pattern 12" lp : catchy and melodic hardcore /
emo. well worth your troubles! : 5.50
