well, back to normal this time out. m'good friend Cavell urged me to
change the distro to "more hugs, less screams" but do not fear, i will
not do a subjugation on you just yet and start stocking 100% awful
indie rock!
i am a bit miffed at the minute because a £170 package from
stickfigure has not turned up so i am a little out of pocket.
hopefully it'll arrive sometime this week or maybe it's gone forever.
ah, the trials and tribulations of the distro. anyways, musn't
grumble, on with le update. prices, as always, are completely made up.
no wait, they are completely post paid.
ok, that's the ramble done with. now some sunny day real estate for
me, and a list of things for you.
take care folks,
andy xxx
NEW, LIKE HATS
**************
limpwrist 12" - raa! total hardcore from these puffs! or something!
this is fantastic and pretty cheap too. this is the version on la vida
es un mus (4 copies, £5.50)
e150 / zanussi split 7" - raging hardcore split 7" here from these
spanish bastards. e150 is manic thrash, and well, so is zanussi except
they are more spazzy and harsh. out of control. monster inserts and
stuff here too, very nicely done. (4 copies, £2.50)
mach tiver cd - total under produced mid 90's screamin' emo nonsense.
funeral diner, sleepytime trio, max colby. rough, raw, and ready. the
recording is kinda thin and sounds a bit ropey unless you turn the
volume up, but the quality is there! do the emo-math-spazz-out my
friend. bo. (5 copies, £4.75)
the jam session / kinetic crash cooperation - Sweden's Jam Session
come out like Born Against or Hail Mary whilst playing a slightly
spazzier brand hardcore. garbled vocals and riffatola.
nyahnyahnyahnyah. also contains weird re-mix of a song from their 10"!
not as good as the techno track from that one though. kcc play frantic
and quirky hardcore, kind of some jazzy riffage going on. it's quite
technical and sort of latter San Diego type stuff in places. white
vinyl. (4 copies, £3)
calling gina clark 5" - german fascination with rehashing 1999
continues...cgc play that chaotic emo violence thing in the vein of
usurp synapse and jeromes dream...tiny record comes in cloth packaging
with puzzle piece attached to front. you will need patience of saint
to get this record to play...band subject of heated internet rumour
that they would be on a split with unsanctioned releases from usurp
synapse...over the top threat of legal action stopped that one
dead...still interested in hearing bands play fast, fall over and
scream? then check this out. (4 copies, £3)
harriet the spy / three studies for a crucifiction - ok, this is not
so new but i have some anyway. woo. peculiar hand made packaging. (3
copies, £3.50)
melt banana - 666 6" - i just played this on the wrong speed and
thought it was awful. anyway, i figured it out now. side A is great,
and side B is a bit a mess, though the fast bits are blinding. it's
also bloody expensive, i remembered why i stopped using x-mist so
much. still, it's on level plane. if you've not heard, melt banana
features a tiny japanese girl making funny noises into a microphone
whilst the band plays punk or noise. ok. (2 copies, £4.50 - sorry)
to the ansaphone 7" - these are italian guys playing melodic and moody
dark stuff, kinda like the san diego style without some of the
spasticness, maybe a little of the straight forward side of Jehu. has
some keyboards. X-Mist compared it to the VSS but i am not qualified
to judge that one. maybe SOZ without so much hardcore. red vinyl. (3
copies, £3)
ten volt shock / neighbor rosicky split 7" - had stuff in by both of
these bands before and enjoyed them a lot, especially neighbor r. they
play wandering post-hardcore that is similar to reiziger, melodic and
warm with strange vocals (more sung than i remember). ten volt shock
is dudes from kurt playing 2 songs of riff-tastic rock that is kind of
like rye coalition or hot snakes or something like that. (4 copies, £2.50)
crush my calm - vol 1 7" - did you ever encounter a european hc band
called blue water boy? i don't recall them being that good! i think
these guys are the follow up to them if i remember (there was a review
in a recent issue of HaC). anyways, crush my calm play gruff and
melodic emo-ish stuff, kind of like Amber Inn with a euro flavour i
reckon. really reminds me of something but i can't peg it. pretty
solid! (2 copies, £3)
crush my calm - vol 2 7" - see above! just volume 2, less amber inn-y.
(copies, £3)

STILL HERE, GATHERING DUST
*******************************
_______________________________
the cosmos - sort of. not really. kind of. but badly executed. cd -
total melodic indie / rock, reminds of the mellower cap'n jazz at
times but with in tune vocals, other stuff is more laid back and
tuneful, like chocolate kiss (if you've heard them! ex car-vs driver
band). "what's black and white" is one of the best songs i have heard
all year. this band has a former funeral diner member! don't expect
screamo. this is great and real nice, as is their member corey who
sold these to me at some ridiculously cheap price that i can pass on
to you. (1 copies, £3.25)
_______________________________
the cosmos / lorna split 7" - the cosmos song here is pretty different
to their cd! kind of folksie indie, very downbeat and sorta slow. dual
boy+girl vocals i think! and there is no girl on the cd. really nice.
lorna do an extremely spacey and slow number with a variety of
instruments like trumpet, piano and violin, interestin'! (4 copies, £2.50)
_______________________________
jinx 7" - 2 track single on uber thick vinyl, strange kind of
indie/folksy stuff, the guy who sold it to me compared it to Low but
that is not really accurate, it is more in that Ida type direction
with male and female vocals and a bit darker too. (1 copies, £2.50)
______________________________
beezewax - burning up in style 7" - tuneful indie pop from these
norwegians. think superchunk and the promise ring. tasty. (1 copy, £1)
_______________________________
del cieto / sin desires marie - split 7" : what the heck is this?
sometimes things arrive and i have no clue why i decided to get it.
anyway, this is two bands. Sin Desires Marie play wandering Hoover
styled post-hardcore but with female vocals. pretty interesting. del
cieto do sarge / discount styled indie rock. this is another on ed
walters, i think maybe that's why i got it because they are a cool
label. (£2.50, 1 copies)
_______________________________
little milton 7" : spazzy emo violence stuff frmo germany, wrenched
vocals and pretty off kilter. brings to mind bands like the vida blue
or off minor in some ways. rocking! i have 10 copies, eek. (£2.25, 4
copies)
_______________________________
the pine 7" - back in. gorgeous melodic emo from these boys who like
their evergreen. total homage with whiney vocals, and even a similar
name! packaging is more emo than you'll ever be! DIY emo forever! (£3
- 1 copy)
_______________________________
black merinos - s/t 7" : this is harsh, angry hardcore with very
arrrrrrrrgh! vocals. it is ex-in humanity and a few years old. if you
like harsh and angry and punishing hardcore without it being grind or
metal, you will like this i reckon! sexy silver & black packaging with
a goat motif. (£2.50 - 2 copies)
_______________________________
evergreen - bootleg 7" : 3 out of press songs on one bootlegged 7"!
stuff from the still life split and the allied comp. (£3 - 1 copy)
_______________________________
soon the darkness / parade of enemies split 7" - std do dark "gothy"
ha ha screamo stuff and parade of enemies thrash your arse off. great
split, and all in aid of 'anthony nolan bone marrow trust'. good
cause. (£2.25 1 copy)
_______________________________
semionaside / the host sepia + nimbuscloud - smart electronica split
12", the host sepia features tim from soon the darkness! no screamo
though. the host sepia + nimbuscloud side is dark, the semionaside a
bit more melodic. very cool! first order gets free host sepia 7"! (£5
- 4 copies)
_______________________________
tidal / acabah rot split 12 - tidal is crushing german emo / screamo
and acabah rot is more melodic, with keyboards. very catchy! tidal is
way better than their 10" here, this is powerful stuff. (£5.50 - 3 copies)
_______________________________
walkie talkie #4 - new issue of this emo comic! drawn by nate powell
of soophie nun-squad. if anyone wants this and doesn't have issue #2,
let me know because you can have my last copy of issue #2 for 50p! (5
copies - £2)
