Update to the Update to the Updated Sons of Hermann Hall Calendar

We had a show this Friday (July 13th) but it was cancelled but we have a show again.  Are you confused yet?  Me too!  Fortunately there is good news this weekend.  Yes, we know that the ad in the Dallas Observer says there is no show on Friday but the ad was sent in after the first show canceled and before the new show was...  Never mind.  I'm getting confused again.

We have a special show this Friday the 13th.  Local favorites Anne Armstrong Steve Hughes will be joined by Lisa Markley Reggie Rueffer.  The cover is only $5 at the door and the show starts at 9:00pm.  Two great acts for only 5 bucks?  Are we crazy?  Yes, we are, but you knew that already, didn't you?

So, here's how the weekend is shaping up:

Thursday, July 12........Foscoe Jones with Marvin Lane Werth ($10)
Friday, July 13.............Anne Armstrong Steve Hughes with Lisa Markley Reggie Rueffer ($5)
Saturday, July 14.........Private Party upstairs; downstairs bar open at 5:00pm
Sunday, July 15...........We're taking the day off to gather our thoughts and try to get next week straight.

Thanks!  I promise this will be the last message about this weekend at the Sons of Hermann Hall

Sorry to be a pest but I just learned about this and thought you should know:

The show this Friday, July 13th (the "T for Texas Tour") has been
cancelled. Jim Stringer's band had two key members leave and could not
find replacements. Jim's band was backing everyone on the bill so the show
had to cancel. Guess that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day for them after
all. There will be no show but the downstairs bar will be open at 5:00pm
for the usual after work fellowship and frivolity. Bring your friends and
relax with a cold one.

Also your little old calendar maker me just learned that Rick's Chuckwagon
has pulled out of camp so there is no more hot food for sale at the Hall on
Thursdays during the Acoustic Jam Session. Rick deserves a big round of
applause for slingin' grub for so many weeks. When you admire the new neon
sign out front remember that Rick's Chuckwagon helped pay for it. Thanks
Brother Rick!

Speaking of the acoustic jam, have you been by on a Thursday lately? If
not, please join us! If you play an instrument please bring it! We don't
want to hear that "but I'm not very good" excuse either. The level of
pickers range from absolute beginner to road weary pro and everything in
between. All sorts of instruments too. It's all about having fun with
fellow music lovers. Even if you don't play please stop by. There's lots
of fun and lots of great music every week. And the best music, like jam &
jelly, is homemade...

By the way, it's an acoustic jam. That's acoustic as in no electric
amplification. The only thing plugged in is the campfire. Play unplugged
and have a great time! We promise your ears won't ring afterwards but
you'll sure be smiling!

See you soon at the Sons!

Howdy friends!  Some exciting updates to the June calendar:

Friday, June 22nd - KNON 89.3 Presents BP's Birthday Bash featuring Larry Joe Taylor, Davin James, and Mike Graham.  Come kick up your feet and celebrate BP's birthday.  We won't reveal his age.  Let's just say he's old enough to know better but young enough to get away with it anyway.  Lot's of great music and the proceeds benefit radio station KNON 89.3 FM.  Tune in Texas Renegade Radio every Monday through Friday from 4:00-6:00 PM on 89.3 FM for the best Texas Music on the air.

*** SECOND SHOW JUST ADDED FOR GUY CLARK ***
Tickets are selling like crazy for the Guy Clark show on Thursday, June 28th so, by popular demand, we have added a second show on Friday, June 29th.  Tickets for the original June 28th are available now at StarTickets.com and at Star Tickets locations in all area Albertson's grocery stores.  Tickets for the June 29th show will be added soon.  These shows are sure to sell out so get your tickets soon!  Guy's guest both nights will be Mary Gauthier.

NOTE: Some advertisements incorrectly state that advance tickets are available at the Sons of Hermann Hall.  This is NOT the case. There are no advance tickets for Guy Clark or any other show at the hall.  It is not practical to sell advance tickets at the hall and the practice was discontinued some time ago.  We apologize for any inconvenience the misstated advertisements may have caused.

See you soon at the Sons!

Coming soon to the Sons of Hermann Hall:

Friday, May 11th - From Jamaica, KNON Irie 89.3 FM presents Wailing Souls.  This is a great chance to hear one of the best international Reggae bands and support KNON community radio at the same time.  KNON's African, Reggae, and Caribbean DJ's will be spinning the best in Reggae, Dance Hall, Soca, and other great music before and between sets.  Advance tickets available at www.startickets.com.  ($15 advance, $20 at the door)

Saturday, May 12th - Local favorites Amy Crenshaw and the Crosstown Boys will keep you dancing with their great mix of Rockabilly, Country, and Rock 'n' Roll.  Several band members are Sons of Hermann members too!  Amy & the Boys always do a great show and there's something for everyone's taste in music.

Friday, May 18th - It's the HILL COUNTRY SHOWCASE featuring Foscoe Jones with Wilson Marks and Rodney Branigan, Michael Rubin, and Kyle. Sure, the Hill Country is beautiful but it's a long drive after work on Friday. The Sons brings some of the Hill Country's best directly to you.  Save your gas money and enjoy these great acts at the Sons.  ($8 at the door)

Friday, May 25th - KNON 89.3fm presents Betty Lewis - great blues from a local artist that is quickly becoming a national star. Catch Betty's show while you can still see her in a small club! For more information, listen to KNON's Blues programs from 6:00-8:00pm and 9:00-Noon every Monday through Friday. You can also listen on line via Warp Radio. Follow the links from www.knon.org. ($10 @ door)

JUST ADDED!
Got plans for Memorial Day weekend?  If so, you might want to cancel 'em!  On Sunday, May 27th Rob's Chop Shop is hosting another Rockabilly Romp featuring Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys and Dallas' own Fabulous Harmonaires.  Just added is a special treat: all the way from Amsterdam, the Barn Stompers.  As if that wasn't enough, the Barn Stompers will be backing a rare local appearance by Sid & Billy King, founding members of the original 50's band "Sid King & The Five Strings."  Better still, this isn't a "school night" for most people so we can dance like crazy and have something great to remember on Memorial Day.  If you've got even a little Rock 'n' Roll in your soul you won't want to miss this one!

Coming in June: Houston Marchman and Four Mile Mule (6/1), Tommy Alverson & Ed Burlison Birthday Bash (6/10), Wayne Hancock (6/15).

See you Soon at the Sons!

Starting tonight, at the Sons of Hermann Hall's regular Thursday
Acoustic Jam Session you can feast on great food while you are
playing or enjoying great music!

Rick's Chuck Wagon will be serving up great grub for only a few
bucks. When you enjoy a delicious meal you will also be helping the
effort to preserve and restore the hall. All proceeds from food
sales at the Thursday Jam go to the neon sign fund.

With the Help of the Sons of Hermann Historical Society, LODA and
many members, the sign fund has about half of what's needed to
replace the original 1930's neon sign in front of the Hall. The goal
is to unveil the restored sign during the Hall's 90th anniversary
celebration next April.

Join a bunch of great people every Thursday for a great meal, great
music, and great fun.

See you at the Sons!
