Hello Everyone,
It will be 2 years ago next week since the horrible tragedy in New
York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. It was a day that changed many
Americans lives forever. In honor of this anniversary I am sending a
page that I still find chilling to listen to, even after all of this
time and I hope you enjoy it as well. "Silent Night World Trade
Center". Please don't forget our troops who are still out there
fighting for our freedom. Thanks for all of your continued support
and have a good weekend, Eric

Hello Everybody,
Paul Simon has had a very successful career as a
singer/songwriter. Teaming with Art Garfunkel, the duo had many hits
in the mid to late 1960s such as Cecilia, Sounds Of Silence, The
Boxer, and Mrs. Robinson. He also wrote such hits as 69th Street
Bridge song (Feeling Groovy)which was a hit for Harper's Bazaar and
Red Rubber Ball, which was a hit for The Cyrkle. The duo's biggest
hit and ironically the cause of their breakup was a song about unity
called "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Art did not want to even sing
or like the song but reluctantly sang the solo in concert while Paul
was seen brooding off to the side of the stage. Shortly after the
release, they parted ways. The song though was #1 for 10 weeks in
1970 and was the biggest pop record of the year. Personally one of
my favorites as well. Thanks as always for your continued support
and have a safe and Happy Holiday, Eric

Hello Everyone,
I'd like to welcome the many new people that have joined since the
last update. If you haven't heard by now there are many viruses
going around the internet. I DO NOT HAVE ONE, but many of you do and
don't realize it. ALso I never send attachments! If you see one
that looks like it's from me delete it or ask before you open it.
(Rule should apply with anything strange you get) I'm sure by now
many have seen mail in their mailbox from Mailer Daemon.... Usually
that means someone you know has the virus or someone that has YOU in
their address book. My best suggestion to you all is keep your virus
scanners up to date and if you don't have one get one.

Ok on to the update. I don't know how or why this happened but back
in the 70's their was an epidemic (sort of) of people taking off
their clothes and running around naked (also known as streaking). Ray
Stevens famed parody songster (also of "Everything is Beautiful
Fame") cashed in and had a #1 hit. Enjoy "The Streak". Thanks again
for all the great support and have a wonderful weekend, Eric

Hi Everyone,
Barry White passed away this morning at the age of 58, after a
long battle with kidney disease, as a result of years of high blood
pressure. He had many hits in the 70s with as a solo artist and with
the group he discovered, Love Unlimited. He will always be
remembered for such hits as "Walkin' in the Rain With the One I
Love", "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe", and "You're the First,
the Last, My Everything". In July 1976, he helped the Manhattans
reach #1 with the song "Kiss and Say Goodbye" which I have added
here. Take care and thanks for your support, Eric

Hi Everyone,
This Friday, we here in the states celebrate July 4th as our
Independence Day. In honor of this holiday, I'm sending a song that
since it's release in 1985, has made more appearances in the top 10
than any other record. The most recent was by the cast of the hit
T.V. show American Idol which also was a #1 hit. Of course I'm
referring to Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA". Happy 4th everyone

Hello Everyone,
This is the first anniversary of my site and I wanted to say a
special thank you to all of you for a great year! This has been a
lot of fun and all your letters of support have really been nice. In
honor of this momentous occasion I decided to do a song I'm sure
almost everyone knows, "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor. There
are many people I'd like to thank in addition but just don't have the
room here but I'd like to point out the 2 that helped me the most:
Gidge aka Destiny of Destiny's Place and Amanda of Amanda's Place.
Without their love and support I would not have started all of this
so I strongly encourage all of you to take a look at their sites and
if you are not already a member, why not give their mailing lists a
try as well. I have added links to their sites in this update. Once
again many thanks to all of you and I look forward to many great
things in the coming year, Eric

Hi Everyone,
Well it's that time of the year when kids are getting out of school
and parents begin to prepare for summer camp. Allan Sherman, a
comedy writer who was the creator of the TV show "I've Got a Secret"
and a writer for "The Steve Allen Show" came up with a song parady in
1963 which even today is sung and associated with this annual summer
ritual, "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah". It reached #3 on the charts
and is still popular today. Thanks for all your support and have a

Hi Everyone,
Father's Day is next Sunday and my update is related in a way.
As many of you have probably heard by now, Luther Vandross suffered a
severe stroke back on April 16th. He has had a long and successful
career, first singing back up for such artists as David Bowie (while
also cowriting the mega-hit "Fame"), Carly Simon, Barbara Streisand
and Donna Summer. He then branched out on his own and has sold 20
million records while winning 5 grammys in the process for songs
like "Power Of Love", "Any Love" and "Here and Now". His latest
release (Due out this week) is probably and ironically his best
album. The title track "Dance With My Father" has received much
airplay and has personal meaning to me since it tells a story of
Luther's father passing away when he was a young boy (as did my
father). I hope you all enjoy and this will be (until it's copied)
the only place on the net you will find the song and lyrics. Thanks
for you continued support and to all The father's on the list have a
Great Fathers Day, Eric

Hi Everyone,
Grease is one of the most popular musicals ever to make it from
Broadway to the big screen. It's wide appeal is still apparent today
(the 20th anniversary of the film a few years ago is proof of that).
It produced a number of hits including "Beauty School
Dropout", "Summer Lovin'" and this song which was a #1 hit for 9
weeks on the charts "You're The One That I Want". Some interesting
facts about the film. Henry Winkler turned down John Travolta's
(Danny) part as to not be type cast (hmm and the Fonz of Happy Days
wasn't?). Also Marie Osmond was originally offered the role of Sandy
which she turned down (good break for Olivia Newtown-John). Thanks
as always for your support and have a great week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Bennie Bell was determined to make a career in music, even though his
father wanted him to become a rabbi. During the '40s he wrote songs
for juke boxes in cocktail bars because their location gave him the
opportunity to indulge his talent for risque lyrics. His first song
to be noticed was "Take A Ship For Yourself". This was followed in
1946 by "Shaving Cream", with a vocal by Paul Wynn, which became a
cult hit. At the time its notoriety ruled out airplay, but in 1975 a
New York radio station played the record, prefaced with the warning:
If you have children in the room, or if you are particularly
sensitive to a dangerously naughty record, you should leave the room
or switch stations immediately. Naturally, the audience's interest
was aroused and the record made the US Top 30 singles chart. Thanks
for all your support and have a great week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
These pages are dedicated the women we know as Mom. The first is
by a group that hails from my home town and has had 6 #1 hits
spanning 29 weeks on the charts. With songs
like "Motownphilly", "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday", and
the record breaking "End Of the Road", Boyz II Men have established
themselves as a force on the R&B and Pop Charts. The second addition
is by a guy that had his only hit reach #1 in 1961 and is a knock on
Mother-In-Law's (although for the record I do love mine hahaha).
Here is "A Song For Mama" and "Mother-In-Law". Take care and have a

Good morning,
There are certain recording groups that sometimes have more of a
cult like status after they break-up than when they are together.
Such is the case of The Box Tops. With 16 year old Alex Chilton
playing guitar on hits such as "Cry Like a Baby" and the #1
smash "The Letter", his real success is thought to be the influence
on younger bands from his work with the group "Big Star". It is
rumored that the Cramps actually stole a car just to drive to Memphis
to find him to produce their first album. Even the band The
Replacements wrote a hit song about him. Here is the song that
started it all, "The Letter". Thanks for your continued support and

Hello Everyone,
After touring with the USO in Afghanistan and Kuwait in December,
Darryl Worley decided he had heard enough protests about military
action and wondered had people forgotten the tragedy of 9/11 and why
the US had troops stationed overseas. Now with war here, the
question still does loom in many people's minds. He decided to write
a song about his feelings and it is currently #2 on the country music
charts. Being a person who was born in New York and also with ties
to the military, I felt very strongly about adding the song to my

Hello Everyone,
As many of you might have heard by now, Hank Ballard passed away
yesterday. He claimed his inspiration to sing was Gene Autry. He
joined the Royals, who changed their name to the Midnighters, in the
early 1950's. They had the biggest R&B hit of 1954 with "Work With
Me Annie". In 1958 Ballard wrote and recorded "The Twist" which was
released as a "B" side. Later the song was covered by Chubby Checker
and was a #1 hit. The success of the remake didn't bother Ballard
who with the Midnighters had 3 simultaneous hits in the pop top
40 "Finger Poppin' Time," "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go," and their
original version of "The Twist. "There's something about music
that's just therapeutic. If you're looking for youth, you're looking
for longevity, just take a dose of rock 'n' roll," Ballard said in a
1996 interview at the Rockport Rhythm and Blues Festival. "It keeps
you going. Just like the caffeine in your coffee. Rock 'n' roll is
good for the soul" Thanks to all of you for your continued support
and have a good week, Eric

? Mark (Question Mark)and the Mysterians were somewhat of a
mystery themselves. Formed in the early 1960's in Saginaw Michigan,
the band had huge success and are typically associated with their #1
hit "96 Tears". Rumor has it they recorded the song in their
managers living room giving it the raw sound that was thought to be
the beginnings of the "Garage Band" sound. A quick note: Rudy
Martinez aka ? Mark actually had his name legally changed to the
punctuation mark (maybe that's where Prince got the idea?). If you
don't recognize the song by name you will certainly recognize it when
you hear it. It is one of the most aired songs on Oldies Radio and
is thought to be played at least 1 time in each 24 hours rotation on
any station. Thanks to all of you for your support and have a great
weekend, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Born Donald Eugene Lytle, Johnny PayCheck was born in 1938. He
changed his name in the mid 60's to try and build his country music
career. Specializing in earthy, plainspoken songs, he recorded more
than 70 albums and had more than 2 dozen hit singles. His biggest
hit was the #1 cross over, David Allan Coe written song "Take This
Job and Shove It". It also spawned a movie of the same name. Some of
his other hits were "Don't Take Her, She's All I Got" (which was
revived 25 years later in 1996 by Tracy Byrd), "I'm the Only Hell
Mama Ever Raised," "Slide Off Your Satin Sheets," "Old Violin"
and "You Can Have Her". He had been bedridden recently from
emphysema and asthma and had passed away yesterday a spokesman said.
Thanks for your support and have a good week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Another case of a one hit wonder, The Marathons were a fictitious
group who were really the members of the Vibrations (of Watusi
Fame). H.B. Barnum thought the groups sound was perfect for a
novelty song he Co-wrote called "Peanut Butter". Surprisingly the
song was a smash hit and when Checker Records discovered the charade
the group had it's first and last hit. It's popularity has spanned
many years and was recently used as a jingle for a popular brand of
peanut butter. Thanks for all your support and have a great week,
Eric

Hello,
A rising star, Mark Willis was named Country Music's top New Male
Vocalist in 1999. It's no surprise either with chart hits such as
Jacob's Ladder, Places I've Never Been, Don't Laugh At Me, and this
#1 hit, I Do(Cherish You). The song was also covered by the band 98
degrees and was a hit for them as well. Here is the original version
(by the way co-written by Dan Hill of "Sometimes When We Touch"
fame). I hope you enjoy this beautiful ballad. Have a great week and
Happy Valentines Day, Eric

Hi Everybody,
Considered the most famous album ever, The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band" is a classic. It was innovative in the fact
that it was one of the very first "Concept" albums. There were sound
effects and orchestral sounds unheard of on a rock album at the
time. One of the songs from that album "When I'm Sixty-Four" I
thought would make a nice Valentine page so here it is. Thanks for
all of your support and have a good week, Eric

Good Morning,
Harry Belafonte has had a long career in entertainment. With
movies such as "Island's in the Sun" or his involvement in the "We
are The World" project, he has shown his diversity. After moving
back to the United States from Jamaica in his teens, he recorded the
very popular "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) which reached #5 on the
charts. Thanks for all your support and have a great week, Eric

Hi Everybody,
When you hear the names Moe, Larry, and Curly together, most
people will almost always think of The 3 Stooges. Jump 'N The Saddle
Band had one good idea for a novelty song, recorded it in 1983, took
it to the US Top 20 and were never heard from again. Their idea was
to record a tribute to Jerome `Curly' Howard, "The Curly Shuffle".
It peaked at #15. Thanks for all your support and have a good
weekend, Eric

Hi Everyone,
Written by Paul Leka (Green Tambourine), "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him
Goodbye" was supposed to be just a lyric place holder as a "B" side
to the song "It's the Magic In You Girl". The intent was that no DJ
would play the song. Unfortunately for the group Steam, DJ's liked
the song and it was a smash #1 hit for the group. It was to be the
band's only hit replacing The Beatles "Come Together" at the top of
the chart. Anyone that has ever been to a sporting event will
recognize the song instantly (particularly fans of basketball).
Here's the whole thing with the lyrics (and yes there are more than
na na hey hey in them) Have a great weekend and thank you for all of
your support, Eric

Hello Everyone,
By now many of you have heard of the death of Maurice Gibb, one-
third of the trio known as the Bee Gees. They were branded as a
disco band after the success of the soundtrack of Saturday Night
Fever which is still the highest selling movie soundtrack in history
at 40 million copies. The harmonizing brothers have had many hits in
their careers such as "Staying Alive", "Nights On Broadway", "Jive
Talkin'" and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart". In 1969 they
released "I Started A Joke" which was one of thier first singles to
break the top 10 in the US at #6. Have a good week and thank you all
for your support, Eric
