Hi Everyone,
Written by Paul Leka (Green Tambourine), "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him
Goodbye" was supposed to be just a lyric place holder as a "B" side
to the song "It's the Magic In You Girl". The intent was that no DJ
would play the song. Unfortunately for the group Steam, DJ's liked
the song and it was a smash #1 hit for the group. It was to be the
band's only hit replacing The Beatles "Come Together" at the top of
the chart. Anyone that has ever been to a sporting event will
recognize the song instantly (particularly fans of basketball).
Here's the whole thing with the lyrics (and yes there are more than
na na hey hey in them) Have a great weekend and thank you for all of
your support, Eric

Hello Everyone,
By now many of you have heard of the death of Maurice Gibb, one-
third of the trio known as the Bee Gees. They were branded as a
disco band after the success of the soundtrack of Saturday Night
Fever which is still the highest selling movie soundtrack in history
at 40 million copies. The harmonizing brothers have had many hits in
their careers such as "Staying Alive", "Nights On Broadway", "Jive
Talkin'" and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart". In 1969 they
released "I Started A Joke" which was one of thier first singles to
break the top 10 in the US at #6. Have a good week and thank you all
for your support, Eric

Hello,
Considered to be the first Rock and Roll star, Big Joe Turner
released "Shake Rattle and Roll" in 1954. The song, the first Rock
and Roll song to reach #1, was thought to be by many way too
suggestive. Later that year Bill Haley rewrote a toned down version
which catapulted him into stardom as well also topping the charts.
Here is the Bill Haley version which most people are more familiar
with. Thanks for all of your support and have a great weekend, Eric

Hi everyone,
Named after group member Cornelius Harp's hair style, the
Marcels probably deserved a better fate than being known for this
novelty remake of the Rodgers and Hart song: "Blue Moon". Yet the
Pittsburgh based band only had mild success after it hit #1 in 1961
and are considered another one of many one-hit wonders. Enjoy and
have a good week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Happy New Year. Andrew Gold is known primarily for his studio work
and production with artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Nicollette Larsen
and Stephen Bishop. In the mid to late 70's he had charted songs
with "Lonely Boy", "Never Let Her Slip Away" and the song "Thank You
For Being A Friend" which was a smash hit here in the states as well
being remade for the theme song for the hit show "The Golden Girls".
I thought it was only fitting to send this since I have made so many
new friends out here this year and you have welcomed the site with
open arms. Thanks to you all for your continued support and have a
great week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
I hope everybody had happy holiday. When I mention the
songs "Mandy", "Can't Smile Without You", "I Write The Songs"
or "Copacabana" you can't help but know that it's Barry Manilow who
sings them. In November he released his second Christmas Album which
featured the Frank Loesser written "What Are You Doing New Year's
Eve?". This popular song has been recorded many times over the years
by such artists as Frank Sinatra, The Orioles, The Carpenters, and
Harry Connick Jr. just to name a few. Enjoy and have a Happy and

Hello Everybody,
This will be my last update for Christmas. Next to the Beatles,
the Beach Boys were one of the most popular bands of the 1960's.
With their "Surf Sound" and great harmonies they produced many hits
such as "Good Vibrations", "Help Me Rhonda" and "Surfin' USA" just to
name a few. In 1963 they recorded The Christmas Album producing one
of my favorite nontraditional Christmas songs: "Little Saint Nick"
which peaked at #3. Thanks to all of you for your support and have a

Hello,
This is a special update for a special lady. When I first
started out making web pages I didn't know how to get the word out.
A friend of mine Amanda introduced me to a lady Janice who some of
you might know runs a link list called MY LINKS who has passed many
of my pages to her members. Well recently she lost her husband and
this page is dedicated to him from her. It's "One Sweet Day" which
was released by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and spent 16 weeks on
the charts 1995/1996. I hope this brings comfort to Janice. Thank
you for all your support and have a good weekend, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Robert Pickett was obsessed with horror movies as a kid. So much
so that when he was performing with the Cordials, he would often
imitate Boris Karloff between songs. When one of his bandmates
suggested they use that to their advantage and capitalize on the
novelty song craze of the early sixties, the "MONSTER MASH" was
born. It immediately became a #1 hit in October of 1962 and is one

Hi Everybody,
Bobby Lewis grew up in an orphanage before being adopted by a Detroit
family at the age of 12. He reportedly worked with jazz greats Duke
Ellington and Wes Montgomery during his youth and befriended a young
Jackie Wilson in the mid-50s. Lewis signed to Beltone and
recorded "Tossin' And Turnin'". The record stayed at #1 for seven
weeks in 1961, becoming one of the year's biggest-sellers. Lewis
followed it up with "One Track Mind" another Top 10 hit, but
subsequent efforts were commercially disappointing. Thanks for all

Using a washboard, a tea-chest bass and a cheap Spanish guitar

Hello Everyone,
The Royal Guardsmen have spent their whole careers capitalizing off
of one thing; Snoopy. With songs like Snoopy for President and
Snoopy's Christmas they were destined to be another one hit wonder.
In late 1966 they scored big with the #2 hit "Snoopy Vs. The Red
Baron" but was unable to repeat that success again only coming as
close as #15 with "The Return of The Red Baron the following year.
Thanks for all your support and have a great week, Eric

Hello,
Roberta Flack has been creating hits for more than 30 years.
Surprisingly her first 2 albums were a flop until Clint Eastwood
featured "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" in the movie "Play
Misty For Me". After that her career took off (and so did that song reaching
#1). During the 70s she had many hits with her Duet partner and college friend
Donny Hathaway. One of those songs were "The Closer I Get To You" which peaked
at #2 in 1978. Thanks for all your support and have a good week, Eric

Hello Everyone,
In New York of the 1950s, it was hardly unusual for guys to get
together in high school to sing on the corner or in hallways and
subway tunnels. Such was the case of the Tokens who recorded an
African style folk song with the original title of "Mbube" also known
as "Wimoweh" which RCA loved. English lyrics were added, and the new
version was recorded. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was a smash #1 hit
for the group. One thing of interest about the group. After finally
becoming successful as artists they became producers as well. The
group produced the Chiffon's "He's So Fine" making history as the
first group to record and produce #1 hits. Enjoy your holiday
weekend and thank you for all your support, Eric

Hello Everyone,
Sheb Wooley has had a successful duel career in Hollywood and
Nashville. To country fans he has perhaps best been known for his
million dollar selling novelty tunes like Don't Go Near The Eskimos,
Harper Valley P.T.A. and Fifteen Beers Ago, which were recorded under
the pseudonym "Ben Colder. He also starred with Clint Eastwood in
Rawhide as well as the movies High Noon, Rio Bravo, and Giant just to
name a few of the more than 50 he was in. In 1958 he slapped
together Purple People Eater in about a half hour and it was a smash,
selling 1 million copies in the first 3 weeks and to this date over
100 million copies. It was #1 on the charts for 6 weeks of that
year. Enjoy and thanks for all your support, Eric
