Kulak's Wednesday Night Songwriters Workshop

Your Wednesday Nights will never be the same after participating in this Group Workshop. The weekly cost is $20.00, which goes to Kulaks to help pay the rent. The Workshop starts January 7, 2009 (7:00pm to 10:00pm) and is open to the public for the first four weeks. We will then set our 12-person group writing roster until the end of March. The workshop will be limited to 12 writers. We will break up into groups and work on many styles, genres and topics. You will find it challenging and exhilarating. You can bring instruments and will need to have your own small recording device, as well as a pen and notepad.
Marc Platt (from the Sunday Night Performance Workshop) will facilitate with help from
Steve Schalchlin.
Marc has written music for TV Shows like Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and others for many years. Steve Schalchlin ran similar workshops for the NAS (National Academy of Songwriters) in the 1990s and is a very accomplished songwriter. His "
New World Waking" show is currently running in San Francisco.

23 year old Danish singer/songwriter Amalie Riis has been playing club dates since her first demo at 15.
In 2005, she released her first album, “Places Where We Go” to strong airplay from P4, going on to tour in Ireland, Sweden and the US. Her second album, "Safe and Sound" was released in April of this year on the new Danish label Songcrafter. It was also released in Sweden and later this year in Holland. P4 placed the first single, 'I Think I Love You', in hot rotation and is still playing it weekly, as well as stations in Holland, Belgium and the US. Amalie primarily writes in English, in a mix she refers to as 'between folk/Americana and pop', with songs inspired by her journeys - big and small, love and life and everything in between. You can hear songs from the new album here:

Banshee in the Kitchen

Banshee in the Kitchen plays Celtic music with eclectic skill and merry abandon. Touring and recording since 2002, the trio has delighted audiences in festivals, theaters, living rooms, and countless other venues from New York to Los Angeles, and soon, Japan. They take traditional Celtic tunes, find the sweet spot between old and new, stirring it all up with trademark playfulness and musicality they term “banshee-fying”.
Critics praise their instrumental precision and flair for arrangement, concert producers love the way they can pack a house, educators rave over their ability to tap into the passion of their students, while audiences applaud the fun and oh-so-musical experience of being with Banshee in the Kitchen.
