Nippon Groove is a weekly radio show, dealing with Japanese music,
that started several months ago. The program tries to offer an as
complete as possible look at the country's music scene, so it does
not stick with any style or genre, but features basicly every kind of
music: pop, Shibuya-kei, reggae, hip-hop, hard core, indie-rock,
visual kei, experimental, electronica, ska, jazz, noise and
everything else that can be found in Japan, trying to pick the best
from every genre.
As a result Nippon Groove usually offers a very ecclectic selection,
however it also has thematic specials every few weeks. Last week's
show for example featured the unlikely, but perfectly fitting
combination of tracks from the Acid Mothers Temple family and
Sapporo's Tha Blue Herb Recordings, while the former special programs
were usually more genre specific, dealing with hip-hop, Shibuya-kei,
techno, jazz, visual-kei, pop, etc. Upcoming specials will feature
noise, grind core/hard core/extreme metal, reggae/dancehall and one
more hip-hop show, this time concentrating more on the underground
scene.
