I'm about ready to post a (rave) review of the Little Dragon album
at amazon.com, and I've just noticed that the album is now available
on iTunes here in the USA.
I have the Japanese import with a different track three ("Fortune").
I've pretty much got the Little Dragon and M.I.A. ("Kala") albums in
constant rotation at home or in the car, giving me a break from my
last pair of a-list discs (Jazztronik and Monday Michiru).
Briefly, in my opinion Yukimi -- the lead vocalist and songwriter of
Little Dragon -- really comes into her own by asserting her unique
musical personality, which is far from Koop-like or an off-shoot of
any other projects she's previously appeared on. Her distinctive
voice bounces from reflective ballads to electronica-tinged,
nu-r&b-ish tunes without losing focus or the underlying jazz flavor
one expects of Ms. Nagano. And her group is a key ingredient
of the overall sound; this is considerably more than a Yukimi-plus-
sidemen project, even if it appears that her vision is the centerpiece
of the album. I've found the album starts out strong and grows
stronger with each successive listen.
Best,
John
