We started our project while touring Venezuela. I had been
volunteering as a veterinary technician on Isla Margarita, a small,
very hot tourist oriented caribbean island off the Venezuelan coast.
After a 2 month stint there I was hanging around my hotel where a
british chap approached me inquiring about traveling on the mainland.
A few days later his friend showed up and we all ended up heading to
the coast of Venezuela and continued on a 3 month journey all over the
country, ending up in the charming andean town of Merida located on
the southwest side of the country. It was there we decided to do some
test recordings of some local groups from a fine music college which
turned out pretty well, well enough to decide to forge ahead and
create the Howling Earth music project.
