Our next leg which lasted about 6 months covered Ecuador and Colombia. We ended up spending a bit of time in Quito and ended up recording a few blind musicians (an ordinance allows the blind or disabled to perform in public with no permits) including the great Ruben Dario.  Ruben, originally from  Cali, Colombia, plays folk songs about life and loss in Quito, and the day we recorded him in one of the large squares in old town Quito, we had quite a group of onlookers and a handful of the very poor shoeshine kids who gathered around and were sadly ushered off by one of the local policia.
