Today we'll hear the Sensational Traveling Stars' I WAITED, a lovely,
spare ballad. I know nothing about the group and there are no album
notes to help us out. The wonderful black and white cover photo shows
six, sober, serious young men in dark double breasted suits, button down
shirts, with white ties and handkerchiefs. I believe the lead vocalist
is Henry A. Gladney.
This track comes from the groups' album GIVE ME MY FLOWERS WHILE I'M
LIVING on Sur-Speed (106). I know of no other recordings by this group.
I did locate some interesting information on the Sur-Speed label on the
Internet, which I've attached below.
Thanks to Matt Starr.

John G
Bullet/Sur-Speed and Delta Records are the "labor of love" of legendary
Nashville record man W.C. "Red" Wortham. Red worked at Bullet Records in
the late 1940s. Bullet was one of the earliest post war indy labels to
have any major success, but they expanded too quickly and were out of
business by 1949. Red took over the Delta label and ran it through the
mid 1950s, also working as an independent promotion man and producer for
hire. In the late 1950s, early 1960s, he resurrected the dormant Bullet
label along with his own Sur-Speed imprint, releasing everything from
Country to Gospel to R&B to Garage Rock & Roll. He had some success with
bluesman Shy Guy Douglas, but without a hit the label eventually became
a custom recording outfit, recording records for anyone with the cash to
do so. Nevertheless, there is some great music in this obscure catalog.
It's a real snapshot of the rough and tumble indy record world of the
mid 20th century.
