James Carr belatedly receives headstone   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #59054 of 64859 |
A yet-anonymous group of soul fans purchased a grave marker for the
great James Carr upon hearing that his grave was unmarked. The
headstone was placed last week, and I took a look, and posted a photo
at my website:

Hopefully the same group has some love and a little more dough for
O.V. Wright who still lies in an unmarked grave nearly 30 years after
his premature death. The owner of the cemetery O.V. lies in says that
a marker would cost $1200. If anyone has the wherewithal to start a
collection, I'd be glad to help, being here in Memphis.

I had a similar thought. If 100 of his fans donated the equivalent of a CD purchase, he'd have a marker. It's possible that Wright wished to not have a marker,...

I say that kind of puts it in to perspective, Kevin. $1200.00 isn't a lot of money to those who spend (or earn) large amounts on rare records. It's even less...
