Sweet Divines + Bo Keys + City Champs Wed. night in Brooklyn   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #63927 of 64777 |
Hey Y'all,

Don't normally like to plug my gigs via the list, but this one is special, as
two of the bands are making a rare trip to NYC from Memphis. Hopefully the
announcement will count as a public service for those in the area.

Of more general interest is the fact that the City Champs' new LP (The
Safecracker, produced by the Bo-Keys' Scott Bomar) is really, really hot stuff.
If you dig the organ boogaloo/soul-jazz thing, pick it up!

Great line-up, great venue (great price too). Info below for those interested.

Best,

JB

Featuring....

THE SWEET DIVINES
Your favorite four-female-fronted soul band from NYC makes their Southpaw debut!

THE BO-KEYS
Memphis supergroup featuring two generations of Memphis' best players, including
Stax guitarist SKIP PITTS (that's him playing wah-wah guitar on the "Shaft"
theme), Bar-Kays organist RONNIE WILLIAMS (the only surviving member of Otis
Redding's touring band), Stax drummer WILLIE HALL (the Blues Brother), and
bassist SCOTT BOMAR (film composer for "Hustle and Flow," "Black Snake Moan,"
and "Soul Men"). The Bo-Keys do a tight, vocal/instrumental set that's a
hard-hitting and authentic modern take on Memphis’ original soul-stew sound.
This is their warm-up gig for their stint as backing band for the New York
PONDEROSA STOMP, which kicks off the following day at Lincoln Center.

THE CITY CHAMPS
Woah, nellie! These guys can play! This is instrumental boogaloo that manages
to show off serious chops while still keeping you moving. Great stuff.

All this for the low, low price of $10 for advance tickets! Get 'em now before
all the Ponderosa Stomp fans beat you to it!

Sorry about the late notice, the show was great -- kind of a mini-pre-Ponderosa Stomp party. All the Memphis cats are such nice folks and can really play. ...
