If musicians send their work to a broadcaster for promotional purposes,
their compensation is that promotion; listeners hear their work and some
buy it. That's enough. Licensing companies are just making a buck for
themselves.

Hi -

My name is Scott Raymond, and for those of you who don't know me,
I'm a New Age/Ambient/Electronic music DJ with WVKR-FM. WVKR is
a 3700 watt non - commercial station broadcasting from Vassar
College to the greater Hudson Valley region. My show, "Secret Music",
has been on for over 19 years and has a large and devoted audience.
The show airs every Sunday from 9AM to 12 noon EST. For more
information or to listen in online, check out our website at
www.wvkr.org. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting music
to play on my show. If you have something you think I'd be interested
in, feel free to send it to the address below or email me for more info. If
you're a local musician or just passing through the beautiful Hudson
Valley region and you'd like to stop by for a live interview, drop me a
line and we'll work something out.

As I approach my 20th anniversary of Secret Music (which is officially
Sunday, June 17, 2007), what strikes me the most is how far things
have come. This email itself is the biggest change. The Internet didn't
exist for me until 1995. Before that, it was phone calls and snail mail.
CD's were still in the early stages, and LP's were the norm. In fact, this
past Sunday I did an all-vinyl show, to look back at some of the great
music of that era. But vinyl and cassettes gave way to CD's, and now
CD's are starting to give way to MP3's. It's kinda scary to think about
sometimes. But the changes have brought incredible opportunities for
everyone involved, from musicians to DJ's to listeners.

I've been very grateful for the opportunities I've had over the years.
I've heard countless albums of great music, seen lots of great live
shows, and most of all, met some truly wonderful people. The 20th
anniversary show is starting to take shape in my head. It'll basically be
some combination of looking back at the past, looking ahead to the
future, recognizing some of the local talent, and giving back to the
listeners, without whom I wouldn't be doing this today. I'm still looking to
book live interviews/performances for this and other upcoming shows,
so let me know if you're interested in stopping by some Sunday. And if
any of you out there would like to send a CD or two, or T-shirt, or
something to give back to the listeners in appreciation, I certainly
wouldn't mind.

There's one more thing I'd like to call to your attention. Internet radio
stations are in danger due to recent changes in royalty rates. Internet
radio gives people who aren't lucky enough to have a good broadcast
station in their area a chance to listen to the music they enjoy, and is
primarily in the hands of people who are truly passionate about the
music they play. I'm in favor of a fair and equitable solution that allows
Internet radio to continue. For more information, check out
www.savenetradio.org.

This is a message of particular importance to our listeners in Adelaide.

Due to a recent decision of the 5MBS-FM programming committee, Ultima
Thule will no longer be heard on free to air radio in Adelaide.

The final programme was # 653, broadcast last Sunday 30th April.

This decision reduces the amount of ambient music broadcast on radio in
Adelaide - a city of approximately 1 million people - to zero.

Ultima Thule will continue to be heard on 2MBS-FM 102.5 in Sydney on
Sundays from 10.30pm, and on Artsound FM 92.7 in Canberra from 10pm on
Tuesdays.

Adelaide listeners wishing to hear the show will now need to subscribe
to our podcast through iTunes, our website, or via one of the many other
podcast portals.

Allow me to introduce you to a brilliant new artist who creates beautiful,
modern electronic music well beyond his years: Patrick Balthrop.
Autopoeticis an album of warming microexpanses and catchy, sometimes
vocal-injected
harmonic bliss. Think the entrancing blippery of Alva Noto meets Saul
Stokes's inviting newer material, and you won't be far off. A gem of a disc,
that is definitely shelf-worthy.

sound samples and purchase here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/patrickbalthrop

artist bio:

Patrick Balthrop uses real-time processing applications and customized
software to produce electronic music. Unlike many of his Chicago House
counterparts, Patrick constructs and assembles sounds between ten and one
hundred milliseconds into microbeats. Balthrop's interactive,
three-dimensional surround sound mixes and sound designs have been
critically acclaimed. His songs have been placed in films, including most
recently "The Regret", which will be heard at The Sundance Film Festival and
the New York International Independent Film Festival. Patrick's software
research has led to the development of performance based generative
plug-ins, which through their interactions and transformations continuously
regenerate and redefine the audio signals that produced them.

Dear music fans,

10 years is a long time, but it has in fact been that long since Origo Sound
released it's Future Proof series of three albums; Dimension D, Nanotopia
and Enter the Dream. These futuristic albums from Norway, by artists Exile,
Circular and Current - who were all new to the scene under these names -
came out in May 1997. The tag line for the series was "music that will stand
the test of time".

And looking back on the music now, I can honestly say that these three
albums all sound great today, after 10 years of listening to them and
hundreds of other albums. It really is a sign of quality that 10 year old
electronic music albums can still sound fresh and contemporary. It's in fact
a sign of timelessness, or if they have an age, it's an age not yet
achieved, an age from the future.

These three albums are being offered at a special low price in May, to
celebrate their anniversary. In addition, Jon Aanensen has written brand new
reviews of all these albums. Take a look at cdbaby.com where you can get
these albums now, along with other Origo Sound albums:

hi there.
In order to listen to CD's in the car, one has to separate CD-cases
from the CD's.
So that is how this happened, that I have here unidentified CD, with
"MP 3-High resolution" and "Namlook " printed on it.
The CD has 8 parts and it is NOT a Namlook collection, which I also
have and which has 5 parts.
I also can deliver a scan picture of this CD.

BTW:Frustrated by this experience I created a yahoo group dedicated

After thinking about it, I guess it must be the recently released
The Four Seasons Collection MP3-CD, which looks almost the same as
Namlook Collection MP3-CD. Now I only have to find the jewell case.

Hi -

Here's my playlist for today, Sunday, May 6th. Some notes on the music I
played today. Lots of great new stuff.

Wonderful new album from Altus, an effort in defense of the environment.
Very dark, but beautiful, too.

Some works from artists who haven't been played here before and deserve
broader attention.

Andrew Lahiff is an ambient artist with a lot of talent. He's got 3 CD's out,
all absolutely great. Hopefully we'll be hearing a lot more from him.

Roy-Arne Knutsen is another ambient artist with a lot of talent. He'd sent
me some music a while back, and I'm glad to finally give it some attention.
His work is a little darker, but also great.

A plethora of electronic music compilations from Europe this time. The last
issue of Edition, which will be sorely missed. Some new things from
Ambientlive, who have been very productive of late. And the new Sequences
disc, which is always welcome. If it weren't for such compilations, I wouldn't
be able to keep up with the European electronic music scene.

A new Loreena McKennitt disc, only available for now on her tour. A 2 CD
live set, and wonderfully done.

And finally, some piano music from local musicians or musicians with ties
to the area.

Rick Cutler lives in NYC now, but is a former local. He'll be appearing on
my show on 5/20 for a live interview.

John Sciullo is another local pianist. Listeners gave this to me, and I'm glad
they did. A great talent.

Craig Urquhart, like Rick, lives in NYC now, but is formerly from the area.
Glad to see another solo piano album from him.

Samuel Claiborne is a local musician, with his first solo piano record. This
one took me completely by surprise, and is really good.

The progdj list is the central clearing house for radio playlists of
Progressive Rock programs. Tired of joining dozens of mailing lists to
post playlists or track airplay? The progdj list solves that problem.

The progdj list is the place to go in order to see playlists and CD
and concert reviews by DJs of progressive rock-friendly radio
programs. Anyone interested in seeing playlists can join. There is NO
SPAM because I keep the spammers out before the members ever see any
hint of it.

The progdj list is for DJs (obviously!) and band members, record label
personnel, promoters, managers, and anyone else interested in seeing
what gets played on the air. Need to find who is playing prog on the
radio? Go to the progdj list.

To join, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/progdj and click on the
