Element of Surprise sets out to create aggressive, emotional music that
immediately engulfs it's audience. The dark and energetic songs are enriched
by Jean Baudin's 9-string bass which thumps out the low end while sprinkling
melodies and harmonies with the high strings. Steve Sigaty's percussive
attack accents the moods created by Baudin's bass, while still keeping the
groove steady and strong. Raye Medeiros adds heavy tones but also fills in
the softer moments with clean, moody chords that instantly changes the
atmosphere of the song. Imagine all of this backing up the emotional and
melodic voice of Andy Slipka, who can also turn up his aggressive side
"full-throttle" when called for. When asked about his lyrical angle Andy
states, "My lyrics have always consisted of words describing emotion and
examples of times in my life that I feel are turning points or milestones
for myself and the people that I love and love to hate." Although recently
formed, Element of Surprise draws from the experience of all four members
whose past bands (Nuclear Rabbit, Tribal Disco Noise and Ten Man Killer)
have shared the stage with many prominent acts including Incubus, Papa
Roach, Deftones, Puya, MIRV, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bad Brains, Green
Day, Machine Head, Alien Ant Farm, Finger Eleven, Grip Inc., Cherry Poppin'
Daddies, The Melvins, Testament, and 311.
