Has anyone in the group actually seen Spooky Tooth? I saw Gary Wright
in early 75 doing an all keyboard concert. I was not too familiar with
the Spooky Tooth catalog at the time, but I understand the show was
largely "Dream Weaver" material. I was ticked he didn't do "Cotton
Growing Man" but that's really Harrison's song anyway. (Wright was
supposed to be the opening act for Procol Harum when I saw them in
1995, but he cancelled.)
My only other encounter with Spooky Tooth was meeting Luther Grosvenor
in London in 2004, after the Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs show at the
Astoria. He was completely hammered, and managed to demolish my Ian
Hunter autograph, but it was great to meet him (and Brian May from
Queen) noneheless. I got a great picture with Ian Hunter too!
I bought "You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw" and "Witness" from
HMV, only to find out these "Progressive Line" releases are actually
carefully dressed up bootlegs. Has anyone seen any other, legitimate
releases of these two titles from Spooky Tooth?
It's probably too early (and not enough members yet) for a group poll on
their favorite Spooky Tooth releases.
My favorites (in order)
1. You Broke My Heart ... So I Busted Your Jaw (May 73)
2. Witness (Nov. 73)
3. The Last Puff (70)
4. Spooky Two (69)
5. The Mirror (74)
6. It's All About (68)
7. Cross Purpose (1999)
8. Ceremony (70)
Only wish they had released more.
The live bootleg Berlin Wall doesn't count (wish the sound quality was
better).

P.S. I also bought a couple of Gary Wright albums back the late 70's
so I guess the connection to ST continues...

I wouldn't mind living in Florida...certainly better weather in the
UK ;-)
Incidentally I went to Tampa/St Pete's a few years back and had a
good time. Probably be back there in the next year or so.

Hi Gerry and everyone else,
As some of you may know, I'be hopped over from the Illegal Smile group
that mainly concentrates on Steve Marriott and Humble Pie.
Obviously Greg Ridley was a key member of the Pie and someone who I had
the very good fortune to meet in Sept 2003 when he visited London to
play a couple of his last gigs. It was because of Greg and Humble Pie
that I begun my appreciation for Spooky Tooth, a band I had been aware
of at the time but never really listened to.
I also got to see Mike Kellie and Luther Grosvenor play recently at the
Greg memorial show late last year in London.
So, being on this group, I hope to learn more about Spooky Tooth and
also hopefully contribute something back.
Cheers,
Tony.
Well put Gerald. I agree totally. Just wish Mike had been the sole vocalist
for Spooky Tooth. Gary's falsetto annoyed me at times. As though he was
competing or trying to upstage Mike.

Mike, welcome! We've talked
previously on the Procol Harum Beanstalk. Trust me on
this one: If you love Procol Harum, you'll love Spooky
Tooth too! Start with "It's All About" or "Spooky
Two"...Maybe "Last Puff" after that. You'll be hooked!

lead, follow and get out of the way! I was just tired
