Candy's post & my SRV experience...   Message List

Ah, spoken straight from the heart of a true Stevie fan. I was
in no way talkin' about people like you in my last posts. That's
why I kept using the word MOST. ANYWAY, it's great hearin' you
in there.

I understand (in large part) where you're coming from. Because,
although I'm more of a heavy metal/hard rock fan...Stevie Ray
had a significant impact on my life too. You see, I never used
to like the blues. My mind wasn't open enough (musically) to
even give 'em a chance.

Then, many years ago, I was tryin' to find somethin' good on
TV. I was just standing in my kitchen flippin' through the channels
when I suddenly heard (& saw) this guitarist crankin' out some
wild, loud, original, & beautiful notes on his guitar. So I stopped,
and I'm thinkin'...Hey, that's Stevie Ray Vaughan. ( I had heard
a few of his tunes & seen him on MTV or whatever...but I'd never
seen/heard him play LIVE.) Course, he played the blues, and I
didn't like that kind of music.

But there I was, glued to the TV with my jaw on the floor. Watchin'
him bend those strings to get that sweet sound, playin' behind
his back, etc. But, even more than that...it was how friggin'
INTENSE he was. He played from his toes all the way up to that
hat. He put everything he had into every note. He BECAME his
guitar.

I haven't looked at him (or the BLUES) the same way since. He
showed me that I was missin' out on a whole universe of great
music. (Especially his.)

The man may be gone but I'm completely convinced that his music
will be blowin' people away a thousand years from now. (And then
some.)
