The Ambient Music of Kit Watkins is quietly magnificent.
Simultaneously representational and abstract, his aural
meditations have a way of expressing what the listener is
already feeling. The CD SKYZONE (71'12") is comprised of 12
earnest sky-sized tone poems. While the moods this work
produces are serene, the music is far from simple. One may
hear the sophisticated echoes of Watkins' Prog-Rock heritage in
the subliminally advanced arrangements, which benefit from his
talent for song construction. But the power of his music is in its
truthful feel. Throughout the disc Watkins is sonically evocative
as entangled harmonic clouds counterpoint morphing dissonant
drones, reverberant melodies drift through the soundfield as if
caught in a breezy dance, and gentle thought tones reiterate in
respiring variations. The hope of this album is to move us to a
place of transcendence. Hearing the luminescent beauty of
SKYZONE, we get the sense that Watkins is playing for his own
spiritual good as well.

Der Spyra - live on STAR'S END 03.25.07

Der Spyra (aka Wolfram Spyra) is a German synthesist with
strong roots in the Berlin-School of Spacemusic. Embracing
these essential concepts, he creates electronic realizations with
a transportative quality. Mixing dreamy electronics with enticing
synthetic percussion, Spyra delivers an extremely appealing
music. Charged with rhythm and catchy melodies, Spyra's music
brings the ideas of classic 1970's Spacemusic into the present
tense.

Spyra began his career in the early 1990's constructing
soundscape installations at various locations in Germany. He
has collaborated with a wide range of visual artists, musicians,
producers and DJs and has released over 14 albums -
beginning in 1995 with "Home Listening is Killing Clubs".
Through Pete Namlook, Spyra released a series of CD's on the
FAX label dedicated to various forms of electromagnetic waves,
of which "Sferics" was the first. These early releases showed
Spyra developing a fresh approach to Electronic Music that
combined classic influences with contemporary and modern
elements.

Der Spyra makes his east-coast concert debut in Philadelphia at
The Gatherings Concert Series on Saturday 24 March 2007.
Following the concert, Der Spyra is scheduled to play live on the
03.25.07 broadcast of STAR'S END.
